Can't help wondering if that last ditch GWS trade offer might still be on the table with Treloar & Shiels up for possible trade at end of year.

Unless he has a sensational year then Howe isn't worth a Treloar or a Shiel. He is a handy player, and their hail mary trade offer was huge to say the least, but isn't worth either of those players.

Treloar and Shiel are part of the 'premiership pact'

And, I agree with you WB, not worth either of these players, but I'd prefer him to stay....on sensible coin.

True - if he wants an unreasonable contract then he can walk. If he wants to be sensible and smart about it then I'm very happy for him to stay.

Channel 7 just reported that the club has started discussions to contract Petracca to 2018  and it appears a formality.

That means with:

Brayshaw: 2018

Salem 2017

Kennedy - Harris 2018

Hogan 2017

Viney 2017

...the cream of our crop is locked away for a few years

Would be surprised if work hasn't started with the 2016 expirations (notably Tyson, Tommy Mc, Kent, Newton). What I like is that players are happy to sign up beyond Roos coaching contract so it shows they are happy about the club, Goodwin et al.

Still some list management work to do but bodes well.

I know it's horrible, but I can't fully invest in Hogan until we sign him up for another 5 or 6 years. Please do that soon, MFC. :P

Oh and for the record, still happy for Howe to leave if we get something good for him. Whenever he goes forward he switches off. There was a moment on Friday night when he drifted forward and his man got the ball and he simply let him run off with it. His chase was pretty much non existent and everyone around us said 'lazy, Jeremy Howe'. He's a one trick pony.

We can all argue the importance and value of players. The sun stated that Howe wishes to astay at the club. This is important because it indicates the improving culture and hope within the club. We have not been able to retain experienced players in the past. We now need Garland to commit. Hopefully this change in player loyalty will entice quality players from other clubs look at Melbourne as a desirable club.

If you're still updating RPFC,

- Salem signed until end of 2017
- Jake Spencer & Neville Jetta will be Restricted Free Agents next season

Are we sure that Bail & Reilly are only contracted till the end of this year?

I had a bad feeling they were both contratced till the end of 2016....

Interesting that Nev is this, I just presumed he wouldn't be as delisted (he wont leave anyway so not worried).

Add Terlich to that list of awesomeness..

From memory all 3 were re-signed at the end of last year, Bail & Riley got 1 year, Terlich 2.

All has been quiet on the Garland contract status...no word of either party starting/deferring talks.

He is having a good year so may well be sort after at eos.

We need his experience especially as Grimes is on the way down/out, Lumumba often plays up the ground, uncertain Howe status and Salem will eventually move to the midfield. Garland albeit a seemingly quiet fellow would be a good mentor to the younger defenders coming thru.

In addition, I really like him and would like him to stay in the red and blue.

Even tho he is an RFA and we can match an offer it would be really good if we sign him up sooner rather than later.

Jetta is an interesting one as he went back through the drafts and back to us - I would be extremely disappointed (but not surprised) if the AFL allows him to be a Free Agent when he reaches 8 years in the system.

Also, they will both be Unrestricted FAs in a few years time as they will not be in the top 25% of players by wage.

Those underlined are player I think are the top 11 paid players; RFA is determined by players being among these 11 (obviously this will be wrong but hopefully indicative).

Ages are from the 1st April 2015 - an arbitrary date fit for a fool...

Updated, and I have added an underlined feature for those I think are in the top 11 paid players; this is what determines RFA for those out of contract after 8/9 years.

Great job as always RPFC, but hopefully we can upset a couple of the big-name teams in the next five weeks so that we don't have to spend the entire second-half of the season debating who we should flick and who we can get (however nonsensical the player thrown up is)!

We don't have a player on our list named Reilly.

I hate to be a pedant, there is just something about getting people's name wrong that really grates me.

O'Riley's contract is up at the end of this season.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
