Don't think VInce will be ready. Toumpas isn't good enough still, but has two NAB cup games left to do something.

Didn't even consider Grimes or Bail. The team needs good users of the footy.

Would love to have Braysahw in there, maybe he will be after the Bulldogs game in 8 days ;)

Based on what i've seen of Brayshaw i don't think there is a huge chance of him getting close to playing round 1, stretch has a better chance and i don't think he is a huge chance either, both still have a bit to learn and no doubt will need to show some good form at casey

Yeah true that.

Gonna make Casey games worth watching thats for sure.

That looks pretty much how I expect them to line up round 1. Grimes will play though, maybe at Max Gawn's expense and rotate through the midfield. I was disappointed in Max last night I was hoping he would become a dominant ruckmen this year and on the initial evidence it looks unlikely.

The Grimes situation is perplexing. He really is struggling. Garland hasn't looked close to his 2013 form for a long time now. Put simply, if Frost continues as he did in the second half last night, he must play in defence round 1. McDonald and Dunn appear locks. Jetta is definitely our number one lockdown small defender now. That leaves Garland and Grimes fighting with Lumumba, Howe and Salem for two positions. Right now, I'd side with the masses and play Lumumba back, continue with the Salem experiment. I'd also push Howe forward when fit.

Have a heap of respect for Garland and Grimes. Hope they can turn it around but fear for their respective futures.

Really keen to see how we go against the Doggies. The conditions yesterday I think were very difficult and if any team is going to make it difficult for you to execute your gameplan - it's Ross Lyon's Fremantle. Now that the cobwebs have been somewhat blown-out and the pressure from the opposition eased, I'm expecting us to push the Doggies and hopefully have a good win.

I've included Frost, who I believe was the major positive out of yesterday, while I've excluded Grimes from a line-up for the first time in years. Not writing him off, but he needs to find some form and confidence in the next two practice matches to be a chance.

Hopefully Watts and Howe are match fit for the first round, but I'm not holding my breath on Vince.

I like the look of this team and it will only improve Round 2 when Dawes is eligible and replaces Pedersen.

Interesting post NAB most have Salem locked at half back without much comment. He was the biggest disappointment expectation v performance on my viewing. He would need to play a lot better in the next 2 rounds to make round 1.

Not in my best 22 atm until he wins more of the ball.

We drafted him as a midfielder and he has had a fully fit pre season so why not push him up to a wing.

I will be the first to admit I'm critical of a couple of players but in fairness they have been in the system for years. Would like to see Salem off half back for the next two games. Let him grow into the position. As we know he can play and was used as the sub a lot last year.

I thought he looked pretty good actually. Thought his defensive pressure was much better than I expected and he looked composed whenever he touched the ball, don't think it's a major drama of he doesn't collect a load of touches at this stage.

He dropped two grabs he should have taken and you could add a third depending on how tough we want to be. I thought he made poor positioning on a few occasions and held the ball up when he should have gone. These are things I expect of a second year I guess but he had been seriously talked up off training reports and expectation didn't translate on Thursday.

i think half back is the right move for his development and he has the skills we need off half back. Plenty of time for a midfield move in future years.

I don't think he's a lock he would want to do more than he did against Freo. I think his selection will depend on what Roos values more skill (Salem, Toumpas)or experience (Grimes, Garland).

I'm surprised no one has commented on Pedersen who most people have replacing Dawes. 5 disposals 40%DE and dropped a sitter, we have to use someone better than that.

I'm also surprised that no one has commented on Michie while he didn't set the world on fire I thought he was pretty good, statistically he was rated our 4th best player. I would have him ahead of the likes of M.Jones, Bail an McKenzie every day of the week.

It's one pre-season game. Pedo has enough runs on the board from last season to still be there at this stage for Round 1 in Dawes' stead. The likes of Garland and Grimes have more to prove in the NAB imo, Garland especially.

Does he really? He got dropped for 2 games near the end of the year while Garland and Grimes never got dropped.

The reality is that Grimes will play with Garland more than likely, so it's pointless debating it some extent. To my mind however they were both very ordinary last year. They weren't dropped because there was no-one pushing for their spot. Hopefully that is changing, which will in turn push them to improve.

Pedersen earned some stripes last season with some admirable performances. He won't play every game, but who else can replace Dawes and do a half decent job of it? Fitzy? What does your round 1 team look like?

But as Dawes Is suspended then [Pedersen]

Salem is a hard one in that he needs to get more of the ball once he can do that I'd pick him every week, I also think Garland is really struggling and needs some time in the 2nds. Garlett also hasn't done enough but he has a few weeks to change my mind as we know what he can do.

Not sure why so many have Cross on the bench behind the likes of Newton, Vandenberg and others I think people forget that he was one of the main reasons were so competitive in the first half of last season, once he got injured we went down hill fast.

I'm a believer of giving 2nd and 3rd year players like Toumpas and Salem extended runs in the firsts, even if they have a few off games. These guys are our future and we really need to get games into them, they'll only get confidence by playing in the firsts and getting a decent crack at it. When I watch Toumpas play I see a guy with no confidence, who's got in the back of his mind that if he doesn't hit every target he will get dropped to Casey the following week. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for taking things slowly with the brand new draftees...but when I see a player like McKenzie (Sorry Jordie), or Grimes in the team I shake my head and think we would be better off blooding the aforementioned names. Stick Jimmy on the half back flank where he has played a majority of his junior/U18 footy, tell him to play instinctive footy and and leave him there for god sake. As for Salem, the guys foot skills are sublime. Put him on the other half back and leave him there too.

I am also surprised that JKH has been left out of so many teams.
