Not lucky at all.

We went out and got him and had the balls to trade pick 2 which was widely criticised

DT is quickly becoming my fav player

Finally the Melbourne Football Club have anothet truly classy midfielder, apart from N Jonesthat we can be excited about for the medium term.

Let's recap his 2014- essentially his second season of AFL.

11 brownlow votes.

3 votes v's Port in Alice

3 votes v's Port at Adelaide oval

3 votes v's North at Etihad.

1 vote v Bulldogs at mcg

1 vote vs Richmond at MCG

16 goals for the season- our 2nd leading goal kicker.

20 + disposals in most games

Plenty of clutch last qtr goals - particularly in Adelaide.

Just a good, fair inside clearance machine that's a beautiful finisher of the footy.

- and this off a restricted pre season.

What are your thoughts about Tyson for 2015?

I'm channeling Old Dee here. What, only five good games? We need consistency.

I can't remember a better pre-season OD. Every year I'm optimistic and hopeful. I see the possibilities and hope for the best but there's always a twinge of uncertainty. But this year, there are no twinges, no niggling doubts, no hesitations... we are going to be so much better, it's hard to keep the lid on my enthusiasm. It's the perfect storm, nothing can go wrong, WE ARE BACK and young Dom will be leading the way!

Well this is an oddly positive thread! Liking it.

I love the Dom for the fact Miss Deeko loves the Dom.

That means that unlike years gone past when Miss Deeko has wanted to do something else other than watching the dees (doesnt understand the game, her only fault) she now wants to watch so she can watch the kid and no longer gives me grief about it.

I'm happy with this although I'm never going to a dees function with her if the Dom is going to attend.

The last three years I have looked at our list and but for a small number of kids added I have thought it was the same basic lot.

A large percentage of which were not AFL STD.

However this year a large number of those NGE's are gone and the list has a better look to it.

IMO we still have a number that are not up to Finals Std. but it is much better.

I am confident that in 2015 I will be able to go to most games and think we have a good chance of a win.

I have not had that feeling for nine years.

Go dees

Pleased to see optimism from you OD. If you think so unusually positively, many of us had better rush out and put money on us winning the flag.

Pick 20 for pick 9 plus pick 2 for Tyson. It was a lot to give up. I've always thought it was a reasonable deal but we needed Tyson to be a very very good player. Turns out so far he is.

I think with time he'll keep building his outside game and makes it more damaging, he already accumulates well and marks the ball beautifully for a midfielder. Then once he gets a mature body as a midfielder I hope he gets to that elite stage at contested ball. He's fearless, reads the taps beautifully and gets out on to his left foot pretty well.

He seems to have a lot of confidence in his ability to be a star at Melbourne and under Roos. That might almost be my favourite thing. He got traded, came in, worked hard and performed with no fuss.

Ollie Wines, Joel Selwood, Jeremy Cameron, Chris Judd..

I can go on if you like.

you can go on embarrassing yourself as much you like smart guy, because none of those players have played 35 games or less

as I already pointed out to the last bloke that named Jeremy Cameron. Try reading the actual posts

Tyson and Salem will prove to be a brilliant trade of pick 2 IMO.

Clearly we valued pick 2 higher this year.

well... the evidence suggests we did indeed try something similar for trading for an established player with pick 3

no chance we originally intended to use 2 and 3 in the draft

oh well, see how it pans out

We didn't get Tyson and pick 9 for pick 2. We also threw in pick 20 which, based on an article recently where Melbourne told the AFL Lewis Taylor was a backup for pick 9, we clearly would have used on Lewis Taylor if we'd retained pick 20.

Tyson is a gem and I am really happy with the trade, but the constant talk about how we've cleaned up turning pick 2 into Tyson and Salem is wrong.

also involved us upgrading pick 72 to pick 53.. which is not much.. but it's something

Will be our best mid by the end of 2015, a full pre season should help him play at his best more consistently

Hmm I think we are a little short of that std sue.

We still have a number of NGE,s and a lot of kids who are going to take a couple of years to show there best.

But we now have IMO a team than can be competitive most weeks.

A very big change

Dom Tyson is on the verge of being an outright star.

What really gets me excited is the patch of form at the end of the year - the 'usual' numbers didn't change much but his disposal efficiency climbed rapidly and stayed at a seriously elite level for several rounds going into the end of the season.

Excited by Tyson, even more excited by the sheer volume of midfield options now available to ensure we keep a competent and competitive group out there each week.

So what being exactly on 35 games or less is the difference is it? Joel Selwood in his second year of AFL footy at 19 years old had 607 disposals and was winning the big numbers. 35 disposals in one game.

Ollie Wines is regarded to have been probably the best up and coming mid more so then Ablett and Judd with his ability to win big numbers of the ball and the way he influences games.

Tyson is also 21. Those guys were 19 and 18 anf they were just as effective.

Tyson will be a star and I have some serious man crush but this business of becoming the best effective mid right on 35 games or less?

Please.

I think we are so used to drafting players that don't get past average and trading in players for various reason haven't been world beaters we are overwhelmed when we trade for a potentially good footballer and in his first season with us he delivers ( probably overdelivered on expectation)

Watched him closely at training on Wednesday, and I thought he was the most impressive out there.

Just gliding through every drill, and had a real presence about him, looked really comfortable and confident , very vocal too,in just his second preseason with the group, and first proper one since he was coming back from injury last year.

Will become Elite, and hopefully the first of many in this exciting crop of youngsters, with Hogan, Viney, Petracca and Brayshaw to follow, possibly Toumpas and Salem too.

A high profile Lander has predicted he will be one of the top 5 players in the league by the conclusion of 2015. I don't think he will reach those heights, but 2015 could be a big year for him considering he is exactly one year younger than Heppell who went alright this year.

He has the mark of the great players in that he creates time and space for himself where others can't. He is the type of player you pay money to go aand watch which for our club is invaluable. He is central to our plans going forward.

I think I said mid but that's nearly the same anyway, also predicted this before he had played a game for us. I can't really complain about his 2014 season so here's to his 2015 All Australian year.

Wholly agree with the "made our own luck" aspect, but was it widely criticised at the time? Or are we counting Damo Barrett's "I've never seen him play but they gave up a high draft pick so it must be bad" as wide criticism?
