If the Saints end up taking Petracca, I'll say well done to them. They would've made a fool out of 3AW, the Herald Sun boys, AFL.com.au and EQ at the Age.

I doubt Emma's changed her pick just because 3AW and the others went with McCartin, she's a pro and got contacts.

Initially I thought the Saints leaked to build hype. I think now they started out with a plan to keep things under wraps to build interest, but as more were sold on Petracca they knew they needed to change their fans opinions. Good debate and suspense is good for them. Making it look like they didn't make a call until the last minute and were indecisive doesn't look so great.

As for the rest, GWS might well go Marchbank over Goddard, it's hard to see them not picking one of the talls. Wright to GCS is building momentum. Sam Day can move to centre half back I like that move. De Goey to the Pies. Ellis to Richmond no matter what. But a lot of picks 10-20 are dependent on what comes before.

18 picks from 21 to our next at 40. Steele is locked to GWS, Hiscox to Sydney. Lamb, Touk Miller, Menadue, Neal-Bullen seem unlikely to last. Same with Oscar McDonald and Reece McKenzie, as the next best tall forward and tall defender I'd say they'd be hard for every team to pass. That's 8 more. Hopefully someone high on our draft list gets through to 40.

Cross out Viney and enter Salem and I agree.

So viney won't be part of an elite midfield?

How about keep viney in there and add Salem, Toumpas and JKH.

I agree, that is what I thought, but if they take McCartin, why did Richardson say yesterday that Petracca was the best player in the draft?

Surely, if you were taking another player, you wouldn't want to advertise the fact that you had bypassed the best player in the draft.

He could easily have said that both players were equal and that they would take the one who best suits their needs.

Strange comment.

To be honest, I've never rated Viney's skills as elite, even all through junior level. But I can't fault his desire. Big year for Jack next year and by all reports he's as fit as a fiddle.

Roos has as good as confirmed on the radio this evening (3AW) that we will be drafting Brayshaw and Petracca tomorrow. He made this claim on the basis that the interviewers were adamant that McCartin would be picked by St. Kilda. A decent midfield at last? Now all we need is to focus on another tall that might slip through to pick 40 and work in with Hogan, Dawes et al!

It is her job to get the info close to the draft.

And I believe she is the best at that job.

Usually she nails these mocks a day out.

I did prefer her work back in the big footy days, when she did them months out.

But.. I understand she's had to adapt now she has a media gig.

If she has St Kilda taking McCartin, that is telling.

St Kilda are making a mistake overlooking Petracca.

Ssshhh! Keep it to yourself, their recruiters might hear you.

Viney is exactly like his old man, all G & D, he will be a great player for us!1

Viney only had one deficiency last season.

Kicking was off target, not as as bad as the old man though.

Let's hope he has spent a lot of time in the off season trying to correct it.

Well Done Emma! She got the first 9 order right!

She got 19 of the first 20 players and wasn't far off with the order...the player she missed was Carlton's Boekhurst and Mckenzie dropped out of her top 20 (only to 22)

Fantastic performance by the premier Draft guru!

and further evidence that the draft generally picks itself up the top end.. which is why people who claim 'Prendergast picked the wrong blokes' are off the mark

No, they are 'on the mark' - Emma does her 'phantom draft' on what her contacts tell her will happen, not what she thinks players should go at.

And just because everyone gets something wrong, does not mean it is any less wrong. It just means that everyone is wrong.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
