Kid's got to do what's best for him and his family. Courageous and considerate decision. I find it hard to imagine life without my family and culture around, and I've been in the same suburb for most of my life. It must be very tough coming for central Australia, even if via Ballarat, different climate, different culture different pace. AFL is a tough, professional, demanding industry. It's more than just a sport, far more, and it's not for everyone. I respect Dom's decision. All the best young man.

Right. And there's also tens or perhaps hundreds of cases of caucasian players wanting to go home. In your original post (which I criticised for being racist), you collected all indigenous players (under the umbrella "these guys"), and then made a bunch of blanket statements and assumptions about their individual characters, attitudes and playing styles based on their membership of that group... which is the very definition of racism. Making assumptions about a person based on their race.

For every example of an indigenous player that wanted to leave (Dom Barry) you can find another who wanted to stay (JKH). For every example of an indigenous player who was an attack-only downhill skier (Jurrah) you can find another who is a defensive beast (Nev Jetta). There is no basis in fact to make the assumptions about 'these guys' that you're making. And the term "racist" doesn't in this case mean that you hate them and want them eliminated through genocide or anything extreme like that, it simply means that you're making (incorrect) assumptions about them based on their race.

I doubt the claim that indigenous players represent a significantly increased drafting risk would be backed by the statistics (though I don't have access to them to check - and I suspect you don't either).

Personally I still think we need run and speed. Whilst Barry really struggled to impact AFL games (and even VFL games) he had a combination of speed and endurance that isn't easily found with a seemingly solid left foot as well. Still a long way left to go in this season but if we can hold similar form to the start of this year then using some late list spots on speedy types would be smart targeted recruiting.

Certainly not worth more than a late rookie pick and he'd do well to get himself back to Victoria and in the VFL with no more talk about finding his community/identity (I'm not trying to devalue that as an idea but you can't be an AFL player based out of a remote NT community).

The Players through their Association are the ones that want re numeration and contracts according to commercial business principles.

They can't have it both ways - if they break a contract they should be accountable in the same way clubs are.

Think you will find that a court will never ever order an employee to perform their employment contract if they don't want to. However, the employer will always be required to pay out a contract if they terminate it early.

Not sure what all the fuss is about.

If he wants another crack then he needs to get himself down to Casey and try to get a game. I don't know what the terms of his departure were or whether we have first option on him, but either way he needs to show commitment and an ability to impact games in the VFL before anyone is going to go near him.

Seems awfully soon - 7 months after pulling the pin. Sounds to me as if the guy doesn't know what he wants. I can't see him on an AFL list next year, needs a year or two to demonstrate the desire now that he's already thrown it away once I would think.

It was on the Marngrook footy show, I watch that instead of the other drivel, he was interviewed in Alice Springs, playing with the NT Thunder in NEAFL and working at a college.

Also it was stated that MFC is still supporting him, and providing advice on diet and training regimen (this was interviewer who said that not Dom)

I put this at the time, because Dom wasn't initiated, he was regarded as a child still, he needed to go home and reconnect with his people, that done, and bravo for the club for sticking by him, he wants another crack, when he left, the club stated he would be welcomed back

I completely understand the dynamics going on in the background. But I can't see him on a list next year, mainly because I don't think he's good enough.

We are the only team that would take him, given our history of support, and I don't think he's close to being good enough with the additions we've made this year. So not sure why we would bother going there.
