Delisted Free Agents

I heard that one as well but I hope not. He's very ordinary.

Would be for a rookie spot you'd think and even then I'd say it was a waste. We can survive a game here or there without key defenders if we have an unprecedented injury list so I'd rather use the spots on more outside run and carry or on an untried tall.

Watched this kid develop since he was 10 years old.

Was a forward his whole career until Falcons/Crows.

Father thinks hes been dealt very harshly at crows and was tailor made for our club.

Played for Timboon Demons since a pup.

His father and the whole family have bled for the timboon demons for years.

Didnt want to be interstate.

Was a bit unlucky at crows in that they had 2 other players who filled the same position.

Is has has always been a great clubman and leader.

Would have filled holes for us{pedders like}and didnt get much of a run at CRows.

Can fly the helicopter.

Most popular player at crows with the young kids that visit club.

Probably would give us another 50 memberships per year.

Jack Watts already has the most popular with the kiddies role down.

Whenever I've seen him he's been undersized/not athletic enough for a shut down defender. Always competing but too often beaten and he doesn't have a lot of skill to provide rebound. Maybe he'd be ok as a forward but we have enough options there.

Really if he was any good Adelaide surely would've kept him instead of recruiting Kyle Cheney. He's the perfect age to take over now from Rutten but he just hasn't been up to it.

Given our kick ins and ball movement out of the backline has been atrocious for years what about Greg Broughton? Delisted by the gold coast because of the plethora of silky smooth back flankers on their list. Promised he'll be re-rookied.

28 years old. 105 games. Pretty durable this year playing 20 games, averaging 18 posessions a game at 80% efficiency.

Played under Ross Lyon at freo so would understand defence.

For mine, a better back flanker than Grimes & Terlich.

With Lamumba, Broughton and Dunn in the back 6 we might actually be able to get it out of D50.

great article on AFL.COM today about Schroder... worth a rookie spot.

It gives him the chance to prove himself and if he can continue with the form of last year he will be playing games for the red and blue.

That said last year his biggest problem was slotting into the midfield and often played as a small forward.

From what i have heard two clubs are pretty heavily interested in him, one of which is fremantle but he is hoping to stay in victoria

We could do worse than Broughton.

Can remember him kicking the sealer against us earlier this year with a lovely set shot.

The second delisted free agency period started last Friday and ends tomorrow.

To date I have yet to hear a mention of any new DFA signings.

Unless there are some last minute selections, I would start questioning whether this second DFA period is of much value.

Besides getting you in a spin it's hardly doing any harm is it?

I would think most clubs would sign delisted free agents early in the piece or wait for the draft. If a guy has been freshly delisted this late in the piece he's hardly going to be hot property. So clubs will sit and wait now.

But the window should still be open for players to sign, as I said it's hardly doing any harm.

No, it's not doing any harm Georgiou but it's pretty much redundant if not being used by the clubs.

Today marked the end of delisted player free agency period (3) and nothing happened during this brief window of opportunity either. So if nobody is interested, best to do away with it completely.

You seem to have a strange fascination with these windows.

Maybe one day a club will be interested in a couple of delisted free agents but not enough to sign them early, then they will wait and see how the draft goes. Take North this year who took 3 talls. They might then be keen on a delisted midfielder. Now if they then cotton on that some other club is likely to rookie this player ahead of them it makes sense to allow that club to add that player to their senior list at this late stage. It's guys getting a second chance on senior lists, there should be as little restrictions as possible to that.

In fact I agree with Mark Neeld's idea that the final cutoff for some spots on the list should be much later in the football year ie January or Feb next year.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
