Kyle Cheney

Could do a lot better too. He's the same borderline player now as he was when he was here.

Too slow for small forwards.

Too short for tall forwards/resting ruckmen.

Too weak for power forwards.

Tries his heart out, I'll give him that. But he's nothing more than a good VFL player, where he often wins contests against players who don't have the physical attributes of an AFL-level forward.

Bit player journey man.

...who would probably be wise to stay at Hawthorn if they want to keep him. A contract that pays him reasonably well few just a few games a year here and there is about par for his capabilities. Any other team may be far more ruthless about cutting him as soon as his contract expires.

On Twitter ~ @theafloffseason: Adelaide are interested in Hawthorn's Kyle Cheney according to Michelangelo Rucci.

Why didn't they declare their interest a few years ago when he played for us? We could have done a straight swap for Dangerfield or Sloane!

The problem for Fetta is that he is not big enough to play on key forwards and not athletic enough to play as a third tall or flanker. He is a good mark for his size but his disposal is more average than good.

Taken at Pick 53 in 2007 Draft.

Traded for Pick 53 in 2010 Draft used by Dees on Tom McDonald.

Good luck to Fetta at the Crows.

Borderline Hawk equals best 22 Melb.

Good disposal.

Good mark for his size.

Adelaide see that.

Melb didn't.

So you're playing him ahead of McDonald, Frost, Garland or Dunn? In particular the last two.

Adelaide would love Dunn or Garland. But they aren't options for the crows. The crows have Talia, then Kyle Hartigan, Luke Thompson and Sam Shaw as there other tall and medium defenders. They have a gaping gap in their list and will therefore fill it with Cheney.

His disposal is not good. His decision making is reasonable and when surrounded by brilliant running players he uses them. Hence why the hawks only played him as a depth tall as they have so many better medium sizers like Gibson, Stratton, Birchall.

If we were taking a change on a fringe Hawk it would be Lowden or Hallahan because ruck and inside mids, whilst not our biggest problem are still areas of concern.

That's way too simplistic and often not the case. Just ask the Saints and Shane Savage.

EDIT: You beat me to it Carlos!

Good luck to Cheney. I always like seeing players like him succeed elsewhere.

He was gone when they kept Schoenmakers. Unless there was a flood of injuries there was little opportunity for Cheney at the Hawks in 2015.

I think what it shows is different people see things differently; different coaches see different value in players (think Lyon's love for Zac Dawson - doubt he would be on any other club's list).

So it is with Phil Walsh - he must see something in Cheney that others don't.

GAMEDAY: Rd 15 vs North Melbourne

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t

    TURNAROUND by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons won their first game at home this year in the traditional King’s Birthday Weekend clash with Collingwood VFL on Sunday in a dramatic turnaround on recent form that breathed new life into the beleaguered club’s season. The Demons led from the start to record a 52-point victory. It was their highest score and biggest winning margin by far for the 2024 season. Under cloudy but calm conditions for Casey Fields, the home side, wearing the old Springvale guernsey as a mark of res
