On the theory that sometimes what is needed is a fresh start., Toumpas for O'Rourke?

Plainly it is a fair swap, without any need to be playing abstractions about what they are worth.

Very simple exchange of similar players, both top 5 picks in the same draft, who both have been behind the 8-ball for the first couple of years of their career with injury and poor form.

That thought also put it in my mind that both Toumpas and O'Rourke are in very, very similar situations to where Dom Tyson was not so long ago...

I've said before and will keep saying; I believe in persisting with Toumpas and that he will be a quality player.

Not sure GWS would want Toumpas though...

I wish people would leave Toumpas alone. It took Thompson 3 yrs 2 get going & then he went.

I agree. Toumpas looks okay to me.

His greatest crime appears to have been in being selected ahead of Ollie Wines.

Hardly his fault, and not the only player in that draft to be selected above him.

In fact, it'd be interesting to know who Port would've selected with pick 4 if they were in our position. As we all know, all the clubs had Toumpas going ahead of Wines on draft day.

That Wines would now be selected ahead of most in the league is a completely different issue.

Edit. Typo

Kent at pick 40 looks better then the Toump right now...

Macca posted some interesting links today on the Welcome too MFC Jimmy Toumpas thread. I suggest you read over them again and refrain from commenting on Jimmy any further

Good to see it's not only Richmond fans that eat their own.

How is praising Kent eating our own?

Outside players typically take a fair while to develop in bottom teams. Form of players like Toumpass and Watts will follow the progress of the team. As the team plays better so will they. Outside players require hard at it inside mids who are highly skilled at distribution to get the ball to them. We have hardly been good ion that area. That is the reason why Roos wants to recruit mids with elite potential this draft season. Plus you cannot win to many games without a top midfield.

That's a lot of trading and quite ambitious TD. Will revisit your post in a months time. Interesting.

I'll be happy if we get Gore as a 3rd round pick although I reckon the Adelaide clubs will have a better idea of his real worth & take him earlier.

Kent has got a hell of alot more going for him compared to Toumpus

Neither have shown a lot at the moment. Kent is very overrated on this forum for someone that hasn't done a lot. Not saying he won't make it but he has a lot of work to do yet.

People see his hardness and it's a good trait but he still doesn't get anywhere near enough ball and wastes a lot of it when he does.

I watched Marcellin v Ivanhoe GF on Saturday at Cotchins old school in Parade College. #11 for Marcellin kicked 3.1 (just hit the post), David Tomat according to people. He plays bball, and only played a few Marcellin games, this kid has skills, very agile on his feet, ran hard all day. Due to his bball background you can see his awareness around the ground, oh and he lay a bone crunching tackle in the first minutes of the game, he would have ended up with about 20 touches and 6 odd tackles.

I watched a play where he took the ball out of defence, hanballed off and then all of a sudden he has the ball and kicked a beauty from about 40 put.

Would a rookie spot be available for a highly athletic 19yo?

Roos came out before the season and talked about our young blokes being developed properly through the 2nds or more importantly, not being exposed to too much senior footy too early.

Salem played half the games but mainly as a sub, JKH ended up with 14 games but played as a sub on occasions and Toumpas played mainly in the 2's with a few games in the seniors (he may well have played a few more games late in the season if not for his appendix complication)

Kent only played about a dozen games and Hogan didn't play at all (of course, he was injured, but he may not have played all the games even if he was fit) Out of all the young blokes, it was only Viney who played all year and it could be argued that a spell in the 2's wouldn't have harmed him either. Barry played 5 games only.

All things considered, Roos was true to his word.

The top sides bring their draftees through with far more patience and I believe that Roos is trying to do the same thing.

Starry it's David Tomat, autocorrect...

I have seen him play for the Diamond Valley league, he played within Bontempelli, josh Kelly, Luke McDonald, he even got bog playing with these kids. He just prefers bball.

You can really see his bball skills come through when playing footy.

Good effort there TD, would be ecstatic if it were to pan out that way for real.

If Pick 3 comes our way for Frawley.

Get Petracca with 2 - no messing around, just grab the best mid and run.

Trade Pick 3 to Gold coast for Picks 8 and 15.

Picks 2, 8, 15, 21, Stretch.

Bake in a medium oven, slowly increasing heat, for 2 years.

Meanwhile, anyone noticed the 2015 free-agency pool?

Clean space in the salary cap by bringing in draftees now, and front-ending everything we can for the 2014 season. Aim for some natural, credible development in 2015 then go all-out at the 2015 free agency pool with a clear mission of acquiring multiple serious players simultaneously.

I guess what I'm saying is, I don't think now is the time to go after big names.

GCSuns will want Petracca as others will, this is what makes the pick attractive to those clubs. trade P2 to GCSuns for Picks 7, 15, (& 44 or a player Gorringe?)

we then have P-3, P-7, P-15, P-22, P-39, P-44

P-3 for Brayshaw,

P-7 for Pickett,

P-15 for Liam Duggan/Brayden Maynard,,, {or packaged with a player Jordie McKenzie? to GWS for Dylan Shiel}

*straight swap - Toumpas for Shiel ?

*more trades to get in mature players we require.

Disagree, I don't care what anyone says the Saints will not pass up a key forward prospect like Pat McCartin for a mid, there are good mids in the draft every year, key forwards are a lot harder to find, the only way Petracca goes pick 1 is if the Saints trade the pick.

i'd happily trade pick 2 and 3 though, if someone offers up something good, I wonder if Peter Wright would tempt the dockers enough to throw up Neale or a couple of good players,

I wonder if the dockers would be interested in Clark, ready to go, as long as he passes his fitness test... An 18 yr old will take 3 Yrs to be ready for finals footy.

On the Blease front, didn't one of the radio stations say that Geelong were offering Hunt for him? I ask this because while I think Hunt would be a poor pick up for us, if Geelong are interested I would see if we couldn't pry Smedts out of their list. It would take more than Blease I would think, but he hasn't been getting a regular game with them and several other young players have passed him in the pecking order. He could be the answer to Roos' wish for a decent rebounding HBF.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
