Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Circle jerk may have been overly amorous. Post 675 in this thread quoted a few people talking his kicking up. His kicking is an improvement over the player he will replace, that doesn't make him a good kick.

Compare his kicking to the players who play his role at other teams. His kicking is average for a HBF.

EDIT: I AM IN NO WAY SAYING THIS IS A BAD TRADE OR THAT HE IS A BAD PLAYER. I AM OBJECTIVELY TALKING ABOUT HIS KICKING SKILLS. SUCK EGGS IF YOU CAN'T DEAL WITH THE OPINIONS OF OTHERS.

Well put Beats. Next to the elite kicks he is only average, can't dispute that, but as you say he is still an improvement over what we have which can only be a positive.

Lols at anyone being underwhelmed by a player of Lamumba's calibre wanting to come to our club.

I imagine they're the same folk who questioned the inclusions of Cross and Vince too.

Is it fair to say supporters on this forum are just clueless when it comes to the assessment of our list?

Our lack of skill and ability to break lines and opposition defensive zones in our backhalf is almost non-existent and is evidenced largely by the huge discrepancy in inside 50 counts this year.

Here is a player, who unlike anyone in our back six, has the running ability and boldness to take the game on and provide attacking run off the backflank. He is someone who possesses a desire to lead, is an extremely professional trainer and player and someone who plays as if they care. Same can't be said for still so many on our list.

How can any supporter not be thrilled that a player of those attributes has a desire to come to our club and help reshape it, regardless of his philosophies and beliefs outside of football?

The MFC is changing. We are shedding our old skin. And some supporters are blinded by players who have been on our list for far too long and provide too little.

Take your red and blue glasses off and wake up to the fact that the personality types and lack of professionalism evident in some of the senior players on our list who have been there for years is the reason Roos is targetting players like Lamumba, Cross, Vince etc.

Frawley out is a win on it's own, especially with what we're getting back and the trading potential it gives us. I've said that from the start.

Lamumba is an enormous upgrade on any player we've had running around on the HBF. He's a leader, he works hard, he cares, he's bold.

Wake the [censored] up.

What a ridiculous comment!

Happy winning 10 games in 3 years with the current crew?

Robinson and Harry O would be starting 18 players and might come very, very cheap.

We're hardly in a position to say no to a player like Robinson that averages 20 possessions and a goal a game, and Harry O who provides a lot of what we don't have - run, rebound and a desire to bounce and take the game on out of the back line.

I'll be disappointed if we don't interview both.

We need a bit of "grunt" as the current crop don't have any.. Well, 75% of them..What the hell (demon terminology) do we have to lose ?. We don't have ANYTHING to lose as far as I can see..lol Bring 'em on !! Bargain prices..

Many here were against this trade.

Not true.

Many are against spending 'overs' to get him, and I'm still not comfortable trading a 2nd rounder for him, but that's just me.

The idea of him playing for Melbourne is appealing, it all depends what the trade off is.

Also, I don't know why people are bringing Cross into this. Cross was a free pick up, and ultimate professional and was brought in for his leadership skills. There was zero risk with the Cross pick up. This is nothing like Lumumba coming over.

People here are forgetting that we barack for the Melbourne Football Club.

Here is what a 10 second google search produces when typing in MFC related words:

I could go on, and on as the ridicule is endless. We are a bloody joke of a club and team. And now we have a premiership, All Australian defender, who is 27 years old, that wants to come to the club and people on here aren't happy because of his disposal, or god knows what else.

GET A CLUE!

I like the idea of picking up Lamumba, but I'll be livid if we trade our 2nd pick for him.

You should still get an extremely talented kid at pick 21. Look at Merrett, Crouch, Impey, Taylor and McStay last year. All taken on the 20s. All look 200 game players.

Bernie Vince is a midfielder and a super popular clubman. Pick 23 was slight overs but we had to do it for those reasons.

We have to find a way to use Clark to bring lamumba in. Whether it be a straight swap with collingwood, or trading him to Geelong for their 2nd round pick and forwarding that to Collingwood.

If pick 21 is being traded it should be for a midfielder that we will get at least 100 games out of.

I'd be terribly surprised if Lumumba didn't achieve that 100 game milestone before the potential pick 21 did. Also in that timeframe he would be contributing to setting minimum standards for the team, so that maybe next year's pick 21 can follow and understand what is required to ensure they make the 100 game mark.

You're almost s angry as I was when I mentioned in the lead up to the GWS game how important it was and we had to win to make a statement

Bunch of posters told me the game meant nothing and wasn't important in the slightest

4 days later and those same posters were calling for blood after we had just got flogged by 10 goals on the MCG by a GWS team that was down to no bench players

Lot of morons on here unfortunately

This is the definition of irony, I'm afraid.

I tend to agree.. would see harry as a 4-5 season player. His experience and ethics are a dynamic changer. A wet behind the ears kid is just another ticket in the lottery.

Having said that it will be interesting to see what we can get away with for Mr Lumumbas transfer ^_^

I distinctly remember reading several posters being completely against having Lamumba at our club for the same reason that he is now leaving collingwood for. Nothing to do with his footballing attributes and positive personality traits that would clearly help our back 6 and entire group of players.

That was before the discussion of hypothetical trades.

I'm bringing Cross and Vince into this as examples of personalities and qualities that Roos clearly believes to be of utmost importance to the development of our club and list. There is risk involved in everything so I don't know what you mean by zero risk with Cross.

Lamumba is a professional AFL trainer, player and leader. Ala Cross and Vince. That's the comparison.

Roos wants more of them.

You only have to look at page one of this thread. Post #2 would be a starting point - a threat to walk away from the game if we get him, with 16 likes, which presumably means those posters agree.

Wouldn't mind that run, carry, and drive from the back line plus he is extremely competitive (we don't hear that word much round these parts). Can kick a goal too.

But yes, bad pickup by us :/

Socially he may be a [censored], but have you guys seen him run the ball from defence down the wing and can even get the goal? Dees are missing a running defence player, he has loads to offer our club, bring him in and drop Terlich, also bring Jack frost in too and trade toumpass and pick 3 for Dangerfield with Hogan set to be a gun and Salem with JKH developing nicely for next year with a Billy stretch we will have a great side and trade pick 2 and get another Tyson Salem type trade and we are bloody laughing...

Yup, fair to say some supporters are. Losing an AA key position defender in the prime of their career is a win.

It's a bloody tough ask to play 200 games at this level. The players you have mentioned have all shown promise but it's a far cry to say they "all look 200 game players". There's every chance they will fade into obscurity, the same way Cale Morton, Blease, Tapscott, Gysberts etc all did for us (and that's just the recent years).

Saturday showed once again that games (and premierships for that matter) are won in the midfield and down the spine. Even the best half back flanker (and Lumumba is a long way from that) will rarely influence the result of a game, and certainly will not bring us any closer to being a decent side. Malceski was close to Sydney's best, and he had zero impact from his flank.

We need to build a core group of the calibre of Hodge, Mitchell, Lewis, Burgoyne, Roughead, Gibson, etc. If that means throwing everything at guys like Dangerfield, that is fine by me. But, unless they are prepared to come through the PSD for nothing, wasting our time on players like Lumumba and Malceski is ensuring that we remain mediocre for the forseeable future.

Yeah, can't agree with that sorry. With the state of the game these days it's 18 v 18 out there, and if you can make your 18 better, then you should do that. Focusing solely on improving only a subset of the players you put on the pitch just doesn't make sense to me.

Wonder if Frost will be a walk up start in our backline?

B - Jetta Dunn ?

HB - Lumumba T Mac Howe

I see 1 vacancy that could be filled by Grimes, Garland or Frost

Of course we may still yet see Howe move back to the forward line

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
