Interesting...

Oh I really really hope that the Adelaide Football Club have done a Brisbane and pulled the trigger thinking that they had to act on a coach only for that coach to sign with us!

Posted

Not sure if this has been mentioned already.. But listened to SEN this morning and they played a segment of an interview they had with Dangerfield in May this year and Sanderon's name was brought up. Dangerfield spoke and mentioned something along the lines of:

"I am really happy with Sando and the direction.. and as long as he is here at Adelaide I'm here and happy"

Hmmm? If he really believed this he would have signed up when Sando's contract was extended at the beginning of this year.

He seems to have changed his tune in recent weeks. Less likely for him coming to the Dees now. On the flipside Goodwin may have a few players he thinks we can go after (esp as he knows who at Ess does not have a 'show-cause' and who is unhappy there and will walk as soon as their contracts end).

So I doubt will get Danger but we may land the next Danger...a younger won I hope...

Easier said than done though. Do we trade Nate Jones this year if he doesn't extend his contract?

Yep give him the opportunity and a good offer but with time conditions put the pressure on and be prepared to lose him its the only way Hard ball!!

I have previously thought that perhaps a giant contract for a dangerfield might be toxic. however, imagine if we did sign a dangerfield, I have no doubt the member numbers would increase, the game attendance would increase (at least for the first few rounds lol) and the number of people actually following our games would increases. I know quite a few melb supporters that are embarrassed to admit to their following of the club and these people now hardly follow the game.

I think all of that would improve.

Probably a big enough reason to go for it.

Following MFC is done with pride. Wear it on your sleeve, tell the world. I support MFC through thick and thin, when winning (rarely) and losing (often) .

That tells people that you are loyal, strong willed, not easily distracted and above all a masochist.

I can remember people saying "look at all the Melbourne supporters come out of the woodwork" (yes I am that old) Not me I am loud and proud, Go Deeeeees!

If the Roos name can't increase memberships no other name will.

The only thing that will increase memberships is winning!

Sad for your friends that feel embarrassed.

Not happening guys.

it was either Dangerfield or Sanderson. Rumours about Melbourne were deliberately leaked to ensure the threat was taken seriously.

From what I have been told Danger will now stay, and probably recommit.

To be honest I don't want blokes who can weild that sort of power anyway.

Yep i agree, I'm much the same as you. despite being down the bottom for the better part of the last decade I still went to many games.

Yeh your right, I guess i was thinking dangerfield would be a big step in the right direction for winning, however adelaide havnt been overly impressive despite their list being significant more advanced than ours.

Well his signing would get me pretty excited anyway. (id prefer sloane though!)

Yeh I know, I encourage them to come to games, but I end up going on my own quite a bit.

At odds with the rumour in the Goodwin thread.

I choose to believe the other one.

Because hope.

Your not really on your own. There are thousands of other die hard Dee supports with you (whose friends have also dropped off the bandwagon)

After all the hand-wringing that went on last night saying we had lost Goodwin when Sanderson was sacked and now we find Goodwin has signed with us, I will discount all pessimistic posts.

Too many of our supporters wear the opposite of rose-coloured glasses. The usual justification for that attitude is 'who wouldn't given the last decade'. The counter to that is 'we are now under new management'.

I like this very much.

I too will endeavour to wear the "we are now under new management" glasses :)

Suit yourself.

Wasn't offering an opinion. I was offering what I've been told.

I don't see how Dangerfield can recommit, when he doesn't even know who the coach will be.

At Melbourne he could be with Vince and Goodwin, and go back home to Victoria, if it's a big offer, he would have to weigh it up.

Heard the opposite so we will soon see who is right. Same as Goodwin going to the Crows - some posters were adament - adamently wrong.

[censored] Danger.

I wish the AFL had the trust that we could this time around build a dynasty on our own. Trust that we have the right recruiters, development coaches and players to provide the perfect environment for young players to thrive. Of course I completely get that we've had ample opportunity in previous drafts/years and we've got it so horribly wrong. But I don't care to wait now. I don't want to offer the world for a bonafide star of the comp who was brought to life by another club.

I want us to do it ourselves for once.

I want us to be ruthless in our objective to draft the best two mids of this year in Petracca and Brayshaw, (insert any other player out recruiters believe have star qualities) And inject maybe a ROK, Malceski and Lumumba to add to Cross, Vince and Dawes who were not stars of the comp but who tick the box as teachers and players who will actually nurture and mentor young players unlike Sylvia, Moloney and Frawley in recent times.

I understand there's an argument that the MFC can't be afforded anymore time to 'rebuild' and need immediate improvement. But there is risk in everything. Every trade. Look at what has happened to Clarke.

It's only my view. But I see us as being extremely lucky to have another opportunity and crack at potentially nabbing two of the best mids in this draft and developing them RIGHT. I don't want to hear one post bring up our past failings because the variables involved are now completely different.

It's time to unearth our own stars of the competition.

Petracca

Brayshaw

Viney

Tyson

Salem

Hogan

Under the tutelage of potentially:

Cross

Jones

ROK

Malceski

Vince

Dawes

Lumumba

Vs

Scully

Trengove

Morton

Gysberts

Blease

Strauss

(Who were drafted by a completely different recruiting group headed by possibly the worst recruiter of all time)

Under the tutelage of:

Green

Moloney

Sylvia

Frawley

Jones

Etc

We have been given a golden second opportunity to have a shot at getting it right.

My thoughts anyway..

Tend to agree Steve. Let's get it right and produce our own champs. Easier said than done but certainly what I'd prefer.

Posted

btw danger might be a smoke screen for someone else (in my opinion)

Saw that elsewhere NSC. I have been told that it doesn't matter who coaches Adelaide, he is coming home

I think we need to pick the best players. I don't care if they are in the draft or from another club. We need to lose the pretension and just develop an AFL standard list, however that comes about.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
