It was reported on SEN that Melbourne had made Dangerfield a "Godfather" offer: Pick 2 and two players. Adelaide knocked it back, which self-evidently means the offer cannot be termed "Godfather" since it was an offer that Adelaide COULD refuse.

If that's true they are stupid and I'm glad we were knocked back! Nobody is worth that.

No it's not "easy". Danger may well want to stay and re-sign with the Crows. If we can convince him to come to the worst club in the last 10 yrs, I'll seriously expect to see a flock of pigs fly past my house. Yes, just about any outcome could happen, but Danger coming to the Dees is not one of them IMO.

yes he may well stay on with the crows but if he wants to come back to victoria and the crows don't trade him this year , he walks for free to whomever he wants too , sure they will get a first round pick but wont pick pick 2 or 3

you be better with pick 2 or 3 this year than say pick 9-14 next year , at least if traded this year they are one year into the new player and a much higher draft pick ,

Roos has spoken to him directly and as you say just about anything could happen

but I guess he is more likely to stay than leave

I do not think Roos will look to get Dangerfield in. He will identify young and capable talent (ala Tyson). I think (see hope) he is looking long term. We need a bunch of guys around Hogan and Viney's age that will be our core when Jonesy is gone.

I expect Dangerfield to stay, question is does he sign a multi year contract or a one year contract so that we go through this again at the end of next year. Financially i believe he would be better off taking a one year contract this year so he can see what others may be prepared to pay for him going forward.

We lack leaders. Dangerfield is a leader. He'd be a ripper acquisition to the Dees. I'm sure Roos would love him. We need more senior leaders than we have now. However, I don't think Danger will come to us or leave Adelaide.

Roos is looking to get value for swaps, i.e. two pretty good players instead of the one really good player, we are not really to spend all our credits on one or two stars when there just is not the support for them, and while there is no support for them we are unlikely to attract any, well any other than Clarke.

You're not going to squeeze a contracted superstar from another club to our on-field mess without firstly offering the player a huge wad of cash, and secondly, giving the other club something to seriously consider. In this case, it would be a plump return and the knowledge that we will be knocking with the same offer to Dangerfield in 12 months time, with only one first rounder coming back to Adelaide as compensation.

I'd rate it about a 1% on the probability scale, but I like to imagine we are being active like this.

Massive overs, essentially 3 players for one. Can't see us putting all our eggs in one basket like that.

Also concerned re Dangerfields long term viability. Burst players like him are notorious for having major hamstring issues.

Be upset to essentially give away Toump for nix before he has a chance.

3 unknowns for a proven gun mid and a potential good kid. I'd do it. Dangerfield would boost our midfield stocks to competitive just by himself, add in another Vince type and a resurgent Trengove and we're going places.

Is it massive overs? It's two maybe guns (2 and 3) for a known gun and a maybe gun (Dangerfield and 9). Toumpas is an unknown quantity - call him another maybe gun, to help balance out the risk on Adelaide's part.

Not sure if I'd do the trade, but I think I would. I'd at least give pause if I was on either side of the trade.

I think history shows that there's a reasonable chance that you can risk getting a modest player at 2 or 3 and that it's not that much bigger a risk at 9.

As supporters we greatly overestimate the value of draft picks IMO.

Posted this a while ago in a Danger thread that I spoke to a family member of his and he said Danger will 100% be back in Victoria to finish his his career. Said he had no idea where but he will definitely come home.

No reason to doubt this but surely the Crows would know if true and look to get more benefit from trading this year before losing next for just the compo.

My money would be on the cats picking him up

Don't know what to believe but this fits with the rumor that PJ's "special assistance" request is actually financial rather than a draft pick.

Really? I guess I forgot how easy it's been for us to attract big name talent. Like it or not, players have to agree to a trade. If Dangerfield didn't want to play for Melbourne, it wouldn't matter if we offered Adelaide all our draft picks and our best five players.

What would you offer to Adelaide?

Conversely, what would you accept if the situation were reversed? Say it was Nathan Jones on the table (and look past "nup, not on the table" for the sake of interesting hypotheticals).

During the Bailey years I knew someone who worked at a club and participated in trade week. He said that all the clubs had a different approach to trading: some like Essendon would do its best to offer ridiculous trades to try and screw you and ultimately do very few trades because other clubs would stop wasting their time. Other clubs like Sydney under Roos would work out what they wanted and offer up a fair price straight away and the deals would get done quickly with no fuss. They had a model of being easy to do business with, and had a lot of success at the trade table a result.

I want us to focus less on being tight and focus on getting the job done. Don't try and get Dangerfield cheaply, acknowledge that he is an asset and will be expensive, offer accordingly and get the job done.

Don't forget that in this trade it is Adelaide taking all the risk, given they are loading up on draft picks. We of all clubs should be aware of how horribly that can go wrong.
