Sorry to disagree with you MN but from my observation the majority of crappy kicks stay that way.

I watched Salem today and I would put him in the exceptional class for kicking, not matter the distance he is kicking it goes to the right spot every time.

Also watched Tapscott keenly, he was exactly the same as most times I have seen him at training.

Looks like a Champ both Physically and in execution, is a real pity he does not take that in the game on match day.

No doubt he has become a solid and reliable back man for us. Looking back from his debut season to now, he always had the right tools to become a solid AFL player, but seemed to get moved around the ground too often, was in and out of the team and never really developed the consistency required to play at the top level.

Dunn is a fantastic success story. He has worked tirelessly on his game and is now one of our better players. I look forward to him being a solid fixture over the next 3 seasons.

The revisionism on this site is nauseating. In the past Dunn was an exceedingly average player, being a combination of lack of fitness, poor development and being played in too many positions.

Fact is over recent times he's managed to bulk up considerably while increasing his endurance. He's nailed down a position in the team and has learned to play his role consistently week-in-week out. The transformation has been quite astounding and a three-year deal is a testament to him.

But don't try and be that guy who says "I saw it all along". No one did. Get over yourself.

His change in form is noticeable to those of us who have been watching him since he kicked three goals against Geelong one Friday Night about 8 years ago.

He has been tried as a forward, as a mid, as a tagger, and a couple times as a defender. In 2013 he nailed what has been so elusive and he worked on his on field discipline and, as he mentioned in that article announcing his deal, his leadership.

He is a different player and as I said above he has himself and hard work and persistence to thank for that. But it also the patience of a few coaching groups and personnel managers to thank too.

Players improve. We have seen it with Dunn, we have seen it with the work-in-progress Watts, we are seeing it with Pedersen and with Jetta and with Matt Jones. The best example is Nathan Jones. What a player he is! He has come on from what he showed in his first 6 years.

Subjective analysis is just that and Demonland is full of it, and sometimes so are posters...

Lynden has left the faux bravado and the jumper punching behind and he is the better player for it.

I'm happy to eat my words. 18 months ago I thought he was only on the list because you can only clear out so many at a time, and he wouldn't have been worth anything on the market anyway.

Then last year I saw him start playing good football, but I was pretty sceptical about how long that would last.

This year has been a very big step forward for him, and I'm very happy for him. If he ever stands on the podium on the greatest day I get the feeling he'll get a bigger cheer than most because will know where he came from and what a sea change it was for him to turn it around.

I wonder if the 2 are connected Uncle... if those who left, enabled Dunn to play better? just wonderin'. something changed.

he's become what we all wanted from him. he's now a reliable & very good player, that everyone expected/hoped from someone like him, with the build, pace & kicking. His brain farts seem to have disappeared & he looks to commit to the hard ball a lot more.

general improvement across the team, consistency & playing for one another imo has helped enormously.

Fact is the teams been lousy for a while and to draw a line through any player during that period was born through frustration. Dunn has shown on enough occasions, especially last year and early in his career that he has the ability to play well at this level. To say that no one saw this coming is wrong, I'm thinking you haven't watched Dunn over his whole career.

Possibly, but I think Occam would suggest it was just maturity. I know that at 24 I was a bit player but at 25 everything seemed to click and I went from struggling to hold a spot to one of the better players. Of course that was local stuff, but I've seen enough of it at AFL level (or in other sports like cricket) to realise that sometimes that's just how it works.

Dunn improved last year, but I wouldn't have said he'd had a really good year. He was half decent for a Melbourne player, but wouldn't have got a game for many opposition clubs. He's been terrific this season, however. His consistent solidness is what is so pleasing for me this season.

I found it interesting that Lynden and his mother haven't spoken in three years and are estranged from each other.
It put an interesting perspective on 'that' phone call after the Essendon game. What motivation did she have to do that?
It just goes to show that a lot of us punters on here don't always know the full story.

Great article. I have always liked Lyndon and obviously the responsibilities of parenthood and relationship woes have matured him into a top bloke. I admire couples who come to an agreement that their child together is their number one priority, despite the status of their relationship.

Good on him for signing up - he is a true Demon and I look forward to watching him develop even further and get his wish to play finals.
