Essentially saying the constant attention he gets is surprising and doesn't reflect the club's attention. Also spoke about how they are trying to get him to play multiple roles and it can be confusing, that he played well the first few weeks and has only just dropped off in the last couple:

"I get a little bit surprised that everything goes back to Jack Watts. We've got a lot more problems at this club than Wattsy's form," Roos said.

Here's a team of young men who have played 50+ games of unaccountable football with ZERO guidance.

Watts may as well have played 20 games. It's like this team is being taught defensive fundamentals.

The likes of Howe, Watts, they may as well be starting their careers over again. They haven't really been held to account for how they play football. This was probably to be expected.

It's nice to see Roos not giving Watts the Neeld treatment, it failed no point trying it again.

But I do hope he's dropped. The one treatment Watts has never had is an extended spell at Casey designed for his benefit.

Playing him in the AFL is almost more for Melbourne's benefit hoping he will come good and save face. When a highly skilled guy keeps dropping easy marks under no pressure it's time to say he's probably due a run in the reserves.

Roos is obviously trying to get the most out of Watts by using the carrot rather than stick. I think this is the correct approach. (Although Watts’ game on the weekend would have tested his patience and I would always pick our best 22. I doubt he is in it the way he is playing.)

I also think Roos realises he has more chance of improving Watts’ intensity and turning him into an AFL footballer than he has improving the skills of the alternatives (McKenzie, Nicholson, Evans, Fitzpatrick etc).

First sentence may be true, but the second? Of all the criticisms of Watts, that is silly. He dropped a chest mark the other week, but this week he took a contested one-handed one (and dropped an overhead one which probably shot his already fragile confidence). I saw Hawks players drop chest marks on the weekend while demolishing their opponents. That is not Watts' problem.
