Players i'd like Melbourne to hopefully target at the end of the year.

Patrick Dangerfield- Complete longshot and we'd have to offer our best pick for the bull himself. Also, a pretty healthy pay packet. I'd assume only possible if Frawley Leaves.

Josh Jenkins- Absolute unit. He'd fit nicely with Hogan, Dawes, JKH and Howe down there.

Matt Rosa- Quick midfielder and a free agent, he'd definitely be worth a look.

David Mckay- A free agent who we have targeted previously, i'd love to lure him to the dees. Has dash that we need off half back.

Nathan Fyfe- Same boat as Dangerfield

Dane Swan- I know for a fact that he does not exactly love Buckley. Would come for abit of money and a free agent, we should seriously do our best to lure him.

Adam Tomlinson- In all honesty he'd be my favourite target out of this whole list. I rate him almost as high as Jesse Hogan, no joke. He's an absolute jet of a footballer and would love to take him off GWS (i'm still sad about Scully)

Will Hoskin-Elliot- Same boat as Tomlinson, would love to steal him off GWS

would be great to get one or more of these players, i'd be stoked

I think it'll be another healthy mix of players Roos has identified at other top 6 clubs that can't make it into their team's top 22, offering them a chance to play every week in the ones at the Dees. Couple that with a pay rise and the go home factor, and we'll nab a few gems. That's how we landed Michie and Tyson.

Mundy?

He would be great for our midfield, high possession winner, loves the hard ball and clearances, would not come cheap even at his age.

Vlad Putin

Bob Carr

I'd take putin as jack watt's personal trainer any day

but i don't think the seats in the mfc super box would be up to carr's requirements

I'd be doing anything to try and convince patton to come. Others include gaff, jasper pittard at port and ask about Charlie Dixon at gc.

Gaff gets it a heap, pittard is a super kick of the footy and might just fall outside ports best 22, while Charlie Dixon is probably a long shot, when he gets on the park he can be a pretty damaging player. Might solve that second ruck/forward dilemma. Lastly, and least likely, zac Clarke at freo.

Talking within the actual realms of possibility...

FREE AGENTS

Goldstein (NM)
Mundy (FREO)

Sewell (HAW) - If Cross doesn't play next year

TRADES (fairly sure uncontracted, not 100%)

Walker (ADE)

Patton (GWS)

Tomlinson (GC)

Nicholls (GC)

Plus we need a superstar midfielder from somewhere, somehow... Dangerfield, Fyfe, Kennedy (SYD)... Some kind of out of nowhere trade

Swan re-signed recently. Can't be that much of a "fact" he hates Buckley.

Lets be honest, all of these players would walk into our team. So let's go after all of them, if we get 1 out of 5 that's a good result

Parker from the Swans and Patton from GWS would suit me fine.

I'm fairly sure Parker is signed until the end of 2015 at least. But I'm a big fan as well.

Rosa - very underrated works very hard and runs all day, cheap free agent pick up but not sure Meth Coast will let him go as their midfield is their weakness

Mundy - will be 29 next year and IMO would not warrant the coin he would demand at that age

Gaff - watch Gaff he earns a lot of cheap possessions and Demonland would be bemoaning his lack of physicality, likes to play out the back for the slingshot from Meth Coast on the rebound

Goldstein - great if we could get him

Patton - Does Patton Hogan & Dawes work - I really don't know the answer to this

Parker - yes from me great workrate

Dangerfield - would throw the bank at him but can't see it

Fyfe - wont leave WA

Sewell - no from me has hammered his body for 10 years and there is not much left

Mackay - good midfield depth and can also play of HBF in a role similar to Jarred McVeigh

Target

As others have said target those not getting regular games in Top 6 sides and don't discount the midfield depth at GWS plenty of first round picks not getting game time and coming out of contract soon

Cousin's son Stuie but my influence would be minimal. In fact, zero.

I like zac clark. Its not impossible. more likely than fyfe lol, id love fyfe, but it doesn't sound likely. unless we traded hoges, but i don't think thats a good idea.

Day or dixon from gc.

Mzungu could be possible, although i have no idea of contracts and such, not that it matters so much these days.

from west coast, shuey is a melbourne boy as everyone knows, unlikely but the home lure + cash could be a good incentive.

gaff, some west coast players might be a bit unsettled at years end if they don't find some form. armitage?

If we are looking at some older guys that we could get a year or 2 out of that would be great for a development perspective, leadership and culture, guys like mundy, Boyd (old but still playing good footy), Griffin (thrown up in the past, stated untouchable, however would be nice), okeefe, priddis, james kelly would be a ripper, stokes, hayes Sewell, montagna,

Depends what the club thinks they want to include.

They might go for players still in their prime, which would cut all of those senior players off the list.

food for thought.

Sewell would give us another Daniel Cross at the club, He would provide what Roos is trying to teach our players about...."non-negotiables"

Positives..

- footy non negotiables

- would be a better tagged than Mckenzie

- brings experience to the team on game day

- hard nut inside midfileder who epitomizes what the MFC is all about

I would be ecstatic if we were able to land Goldstein via free agency. He'd be a huge addition going by our current ruck stocks and he'd be valuable in allowing time for Gawn and maybe Spencer to develop. It's a pity that Jamar is contracted for another year.

PATTON

If we're going with Patton, I'd add Prestia. Another MFC supporter. ;) Bring 'em home. :P

Prestia is quick and a clearance machine. Probably the only non-MFC player I actually follow, mainly because he's a Melbourne boy and I hold out some ridiculous hope of getting him one day. If we get two top 5 picks, I'd be offering one for Prestia and use the other on a big forward.

I like where everyone is heading on Tomlinson but I'd be pretty sure that every other club is thinking the same thing - that GWS has Boyd, Patton, Cameron and McCarthy - why do they need Tomlinson.

And what would be the trade requirement - we are likely to have pick 2 and 20 - so would 20 be enough to tempt GWS, or would other clubs offer a late first rounder?

We also have an even more pressing need for a quality ruckman.

While our likely draft pick 2 (I'm confident we've got the Lions covered) should get us a ruck/forward (Wright or Durdin), we may have to also go after one of the West Coast wastees - Lycett or Sinclair - and I imagine we will need to give up pick 20 for either of them.

Finally us having pick 20 is somewhat dependent on not needing to use it to claim Billy Stretch - who based on prospectus is late 2nd round at this stage, but who knows where he will sit until after U18 champs.

The free agency thing is something we should explore heavily as it is a chance to snaffle someone for no pick and just a stack of cash. Even if Chip stays, and I hope he does, I reckon with Clark agreeing on a 2014 settlement, we should have enough room to tempt Mundy - $700K a year for three would be nice retirement plan for him and let him finish up his career in Vic. But I can't imagine him coming our way unless Freo gets the job done and wins a flag this year.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
