Big Jake was spent but willed himself to compete again and again , absolutely spent . well done big man . We tackled well , only stat we were ahead in and played through the middle at times ,won us the game.malthouse/neeld wreckers. Loved vineys purple patch . The carlton maggot that put his 4-20 wrapper in my beer , very lucky i was close to unleashing Rod Grinter style . Happy i didnt . Go Demons.

Not sure if this was mentioned earlier but Jack Viney must have been practicing his kicking, because nearly every pass was delivered lace out beautifully.

Heard Roos being interviewed on MMM yesterday....made some interesting comments on recruiting and the current list. Very happy with Salem and loves Tyson.

I'm so glad he's coaching this team.

Frawley CHF, Dawes FF if we had that set up rd1 we would have won. Gotta love it. In the darkness a light has appeared!

so are we now gonna lay off the big slow awkward ruckman for a while?

also it should be noted, pedders is the best gravedigger at the club and deserves kudos for his efforts this year.

mac, starts showing more by the week.

J HOWE has been gifted games so far, good to see him earn a few.

Congratulations Dees!

For 50 years I was a dees supporter and member until recently going across to Richmond. Part of that reason was a 12 month suspension from this forum for vehemently opposing chasing Mick Malthouse, then Neeld, as coaches.

Anyway, today was a great win for the Dees. Again Congratulations.

I'd like to leave you with these words from a singing artist in 1982 named Toni Basil;

Oh, Mickey, you're so fine

You're so fine you blow my mind

Hey, Mickey

Hey, Mickey

Oh, Mickey, what a pity

You don't understand

It's guys like you, Mickey

Oh, what you do, Mickey, do, Mickey

Don't break my heart, Mickey

So r u back on board. I'm puzzled how can u start supporting another team after being a Dee for 50???????

I don't think so. I'll call it how I see it. I watched Bail jog after Blues backs in the first half. You might not get that sense on TV.

I was at the game 2, I posted that his kicking let us down & intensity as well in the first half. But give him his due he played very aggressively used his speed and kicked truly. Now he has 2 do it for an entire match, not jog like he did in the first half. Watching the game live u get 2 c what happens off the ball, positioning etc...

No. I did to, but now think its 50/50

I think its to take the pressure off Chipper, to allow him to re-enjoy his footy, & to Prepare our backline Now, just in case he does leave.

Good strategy all round. At worse we get 2 c how it works without him on backline as well as turning him into a swingman. If he stays gr8, if he goes the opp will have 2 pay even more and we will hopefully get a reasonable pick.

Noticed that towards the end of the match he couldn't jump and just did what he could; great competitor.

Noticed also that Dawes is always giving advice to the other forwards about where to position themselves; he will probably make a good coach when his playing days are over. Hopefully we can get a good run with him now, I wasn't keen on getting him but there's no doubt he could be a very good player for us and the 12 marks he took against Hawthorn last year give an indication of just how good he could be.

The advantage of having a son who doesn't sleep is I watched the replay already. In the 3rd when JKH snaps the goal he shouldn't have been so filthy on himself. The handball to Dawes was a 50/50 at best. Small forwards make things happen and he did. Nate Jones smashes Murphy and I hope but doubt Jones will get talked up by anyone in the media. Going to the footy beats listening to B grade commentators anyday.

Can you elaborate Jimbo?

I didn't hear that.

Basically said that they would not haven taken Kelly at #2, but didn't elaborate on who they would have taken.

Rapt with Dom and Salem....ie, two for one deal.

Maintained that the group needed to get to every contest - scoreboard doesn't matter, but supporters need to see effort.

Scrutinised his own performance as a coach and was quite self deprecating.

Spoke to Mitch and sensed relief in Mitch's voice...moving on to a different phase of his life.

He challenged Cross, Vince, Dawes and a few others to lead the playing group out of what he called a 'cultural abyss'

Can't remember much more, but he sounded like a true leader....

The usual whipping boards, Bail, Spencer, Pederson, M Jones all showed something today which was the most pleasing thing. Maybe the message is getting through. Thought Grimes showed his worth as a captain also. O Happy day!

Don't forget the game Dunn played today consistent good work all day. His football is getting much better each year, he is proving his detractors poor judges. but then we are, all of us on this side of the fence

One thing I loved today the tackling with Bail 10, Cross 8 , Mckenzie 7, Pedrson and Spencer 5 each was fantastic to watch

Also we bumped blocked scagged and contested all day Simple to say but thats how you start the rebuilding of confidence

hi everybody i have said something bad things about mitch which i am sorry for, since my curse lifting exercise i have thought it had not worked, but after few days we got the good news that chris dawes was only 2 weeks away from playing, and i have thought yes it is already working, but then we got the bad news that mitch is leaving to rid himself of the black dog. At first I was angry, but after our win against carlton things have become much more clear, many years ago it was a young man called david who had won a all australian at centre half back as a young man, then he was moved forward to come our mgreatest forward ever, now years later another man has done the same thing, james must be kept at the club at all costs and also kept in the forward line at all cost. clark leaving, the black cloud has now lifted from the club. Best luck to mitch take that black cloud with you and get over it, you have now given as the cash for the real star forward, thank you good luck, u have jumped on the explosive device for your mates.

I may be the only one here but I think Dunn was one of the most important men on the ground today. Not only his kicking but the fact that he always presented hard and demanded the ball and usually marked it. He gave us a real target coming out of the backline which made it easier for Dawes and Frawley to make their leads closer to goal

Dunn has become a gun

For a club that has struggled to develop talent hes certainly gone against the grain, even if it has taken a while

hes a hell of a player now

Stats can be deceiving, Carlton racked up cheap stats going sideways and backwards.

We now have a number of "swingmen" who can go forward or back.

Dunn,Howe,Watts,Pederson,Frawley.

Will be very handy when things arent quite working.

I was sitting directly behind the bench today and what many don't see is Dawes giving advice to our players coming off the ground, and they listen to him with upmost respects. He also, funnily/awesomely enough, was giving crap to the opposition players coming off the ground and those sitting on the bench. Great to see!

He is worth more to us than just shows on field, trust me.

I seem to recall someone on here posting last week about he is worth a couple of goals he kicks plus more just by his presence in the team, or something along those lines. That was shown perfectly by his game yesterday. He seemed to have so much impact on the game, i was surprised when seeing his stats afterwards.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
