Just to add

120 mins of conisent effort - once we get that at every game - skills, tactics and wins will come

Dont' reckon we've had it since the Bailey era before it all went wrong - throw in poor decions by the club and welcome to the MFC hole of despair

Not sure if you know of a bloke called Alistair clarkson.

touche - Ross Lyon and Longmire might have something to say about that.

But in all sersiousness it's great TV - watch it if you get the chance.

Bomber available in 2015 - should we???? I love the way he's going about Footy if Roos leaves I wouldn't be disappointed with Bomber at all

Cleary we'd have to convince him he'd want to do it :)

I'd strongly consider it - Gun coach and has done what we are tryign to do at the MFC - Cats speak for themselves

I think we should inquire about Bomber as some form of consultant for 2015. He seems destined to walk away from Essendon. Hird will coach, Craig as director of coaching, Goodwin as senior assistant (an option to take the successor role at MFC). Bomber really has no role and being at the club would only cause them trouble.

I'm not sure where we'd put Bomber but maybe just a part time one day a week maybe as a quality control coach to work with Roos. Come to main training and just review the training as an outsider it would be worth so much. He doesn't want to work full time I don't think so don't make him.

Definetly agree with that.

I am just thinking out loud - Bomber would be great at the Dees I hope someone at the Club is thiking the same thing

Edit - cleary you'd consult with Roos etc to make sure it would work and he'd be keen but we're just spit balling here

Agreed - the only worry is for how long will he be there?

Not sure what you're saying HH

Neeld could coach or Roos can't?

Beleive me I am [censored] with what i've seen so far but although we've suffered for a long time expectations need to be checked - or am I forgetting where I am?

I know that hh but listen to what he says he knows what needs fixing and will use this yr to do it and is open to advice.

Something which a previous coach was not.

Don't get me wrong I am not happy with where we r at either but am more confident he can turn it around.

actually no as far apart as you might think.

Both are not sure of the solution. How they react is different.......I hope

I've probably forgotten more about football - than Mark Neeld knows.

Paul Roos has probably forgotten more about football in the past week - than I know.

That is the difference between coaches.

Our players never respected Neeld, I was told this early on in his tenure - I was disappointed.

I'm not sure they're showing great respect for Roos either.

Certainly not showing any respect for the jumper on field.

Interesting that our players believe they have earned the right to respect or not respect any coach appointed to them.. And now we have Roos, they are well on the way to trashing his reputation If this rubbish continues.

Pity the players haven't had respect for their own careers or the supporters who watch them weekly either live or on TV.

That excuse is a cop out to me. Brent Moloney sulks.

I have a lot more confidence in Roos finding a solution and reacting positively than the previous coach that's for sure.

Essendon have basically been the best team for the last 3 years in the first third of the season. Imagine if bomber coached them then!

I did like his idea about 12-on-12 games in the preseason though. Makes them hold; makes them spread; makes them run harder for longer.

This will make players earn their spot.....& ultimately a good club!

Roos presser below

Jack Trengove was dropped to the VFL last week, in part, to help the former skipper rediscover his enjoyment for the game. While he had 25 disposals for the Casey Scorpions, and was particularly effective in the second half, he is no certainty to return this week.

''The standards have got to start in the seconds. Thats another discussion we had today. I am not going to promote anyone just because they got 30 possessions, or 25 possessions, or 28 possessions,'' Roos said.

''The standards that are set at the good clubs are set from below. We will play the guys we think can play the role in the seniors that they were able to play in the seconds.''

Considering that he made over $10 million in a land deal a few years ago, and half owns a thriving electrician business with his brother, wouldn't affect his decision one iota.

I don't think that's fair. There are still problems to iron out but overall I think the effort in the Saints and GWS games has been pretty good save for a couple of players. They hesitate and get caught out thinking some times but that is natural when they are trying to implement a well-drilled game plan. There are skill errors but that is a different issue to not trying/lack of respect. Overall I've been pretty happy with the effort shown but there are still a couple of offenders who I would drop back to Casey until they can show they can put in 100% effort from start to finish. It may put us a step back in the short term but setting those standards now will be beneficial long term.

The most interesting thing I heard Roos & Bomber talk about was the best clubs set standards in the reserves while clubs like ours have to do it in the seniors. It's pretty obvious really but a kid won't get a game at Geelong or Hawthorn until they have proven they can do what is required in the reserves. Meanwhile we've been chucking them in the deep end and expecting them to win games for us from day dot.

Like the way has built relationships and now is enforcing standards and compliance. Accountability will now be taken to a new level and the coaches will see who's salvageable and who moves on.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
