Nathan Jones was brilliant except two or three poor moments. Most others were shite except two or three ok moments.

You are correct BB. However, I would argue that the mistakes he made today are outweighed by his courageous and gut busting example to others. We have players with more natural ability than Jones (and I don't have to name them). Unfortunately, when the going gets tough, and it often does at Melbourne they fold. Jones keeps going. Jesus, I am glad he is resilient, because if he ever gets injured - we are fully and properly [censored].

Nathan Jones is an anti-Demon. Where does he get off doing things all fast and competitively? And why is he so intent on trying to break lines and get the ball forward quickly? Does he realise who he plays for?

When Jones gets near the ball I feel like my baby has unpressed the slow motion button on my remote control...but I always manage to grab it back off him when the next player gets near the ball so I can ease the speed off a bit again.

Jones endeavour is elite his defensive running is non existent. Many times his opponent ran off from the contest and kicked goals. His good though out weighs his bad many times over when compared to watts,trengove and grimes. Toumpas looked always injured or exhausted when running any further than ten metres. Watts always looks exhausted and has no body strength. Dunns kicking was very good.

Very hard to find many melbourne players who would get a game in another team.

Took the kids to the game, they don't want to come anymore. Another wasted year, demoralising the supporters two rounds in, probably an improvement, it was round one last year.

I've seen a lot of people mention Toumpas' lack of pace but for me it's not that big a concern. He modelled his game as a junior on Bryce Gibbs and Leigh Montagna, neither of whom are what you'd call quick. For him to take the next step I'd like to see him get more involved. 25, 30 possession games I'm talking. He would rival Watts, Dunn, Tyson or Vince as best kick in the team. If he gets his numbers up he'll be a gun.

Agree about Pedo but Spencer busts a gut. He was in a no win today trying to take those two big bastards on his own.

I think I remember an AFL Stat that stated that two thirds of all goals in the AFL result from turnovers.

Pedersen is a worker but just does not have the skills for an AFL footballer.

I think Jones is a star, regardles of a few mistakes. It is easy to look great when the team is on a roll and you have half a dozen quality mates to take the pressure off. The reason he has turnovers is he gets the ball and is under constant pressure without propoer support. This bloke stands up for this club week in and week out often alone and I am happy to cut hims some slack. Stick him in the weagles mid field and he would shine.

The Toump is a worry. We dont need another low draft pick who is a bit Ho Hum. We need game changers and excitment machines not plodders.

I agree mostly with the analysis except for a couple of ratings. I thought Pederson tried very hard. I like Gergiou's endeavour, he is listed in the footy record as 187 cm's the same height as Grimes and stood Dean Cox at times and gave a decent contest. I think he's got the spirit we need.

Again I thought Dunn was one of our better players and Jones continues to lead by example but doesn't get enough followers.

Most Melbourne players barring Jones are happy to let the opposition get first hands on the ball. Is this lack of courage or confidence?

I'm okay with Roosy's game plan however if we continue to move the ball in to the forward line as slowly as we have been we will be lucky to get more than 5 -10 goals every game.

Dunn works well in defence. In the forward line he gave nothing.

Frawley defended ok but his attacking flair and disposal were poor.

Pederson - I'd swap him for Gysberts and he's been delisted.

Byrnes - our worst player kicked the most goals - how bad is that.

Midfield OK.

WE NEED TALL FORWARDS.

Even proppy bring in Dawes & Gawn.

Send Roos to Mitch Clark with a message. "Mitch stand in the square and we will bomb it in, you only need to grab a few per game, one leg is plenty, come back please"

I found it a little frustrating that our starting positions on opposition players was good but our reading of the play was so poor that the opponent would end up 5 metres clear. Giorgiou actually reads the game well and could influence a contest by being close when the ball arrived - I thought that Grimes was two steps behind all day.

imjust mentioned in another thread about Jones and his lack of disciple and skill errors really hurt us early.
