  1. Hawthorn have said Lewis is a required player, Lewis has not said he wants to stay at Hawthorn. Not over yet.
  2. I agree with the ox. whilst we have improved, relative to the rest of the competition we are just treading water. in hindsight we have beaten many sides when they have been in their poorest form for the season.
  3. Anyone else see the ACDC stage bathed in red & blue during Hells Bells? The last time I was Etihad was against the Giants. Both good memories
  4. Jones endeavour is elite his defensive running is non existent. Many times his opponent ran off from the contest and kicked goals. His good though out weighs his bad many times over when compared to watts, trengove and grimes. Toumpas looked always injured or exhausted when running any further than ten metres. Watts always looks exhausted and has no body strength. Dunns kicking was very good. Very hard to find many melbourne players who would get a game in another team. Took the kids to the game, they don't want to come anymore. Another wasted year, demoralising the supporters two rounds in, probably an improvement, it was round one last year.
  5. There is no one on the list that can replace him as small forward next year. With a forward line that will be hopefully made up of the land of the giants, it will create quality crumbs. For simple football reasons he will go on one more year, leading the way for barry, toumpas and maybe blease.
  6. Why would we move him on when there are clearly so many before him that should go first. We have for the last five years continualymoved older players on, on the hope of others to come through when they haven't. Who on our list is better in his position and how many have we got. Clearly mids are a priority over small forwards in this off season, so while Barry continues to improve and maybe one other he remains our best bet even if it is to play only in the first half of next year and then drift out for Barry.
  7. Toumpas was skilful and thoughtful in his play yesterday. The only thing that was holding back was an engine to keep going and confidence in himself and the team to attack the ball first rather than pause because we cough up the ball so often you have to defend. Viney / toumpas is the right mix. Viney / wines would be same same.

  9. I think Howe is over rated. Doesn't kick enough goals to be a good forward doesn't get the ball enough to be a good midfielder. I think he has the right amount of trade currency to get us a good player.
  10. Understanding our forward structure was shot after half time but a long kick and turnover or contest ten metres from our goal has got to be better than the stupid side ways kicking and one metre handballs in the middle, especially the ones overhead. Matt jones, rodan and Mckenzie constantly get the ball (tick) - but their running around in circles and one metre handballs totally throw out any positive spread we have - just run forward and kick long on the 45!
  11. Bring back a demon http://www.melbournefc.com.au/membership/bringbackademon my first recruit Colin Sylvia - been missing for a long time not actualy sure he ever really arrived next Shannon - still to arrive next I will just go by number starting from 3
  12. Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision. They have to have the skill, and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill.” M.Ali
  13. I wouldn't imagine he would retire or move anywhere. Has five kids to feed and im guessing the cheques he gets now will be the biggest of his life. He is well liked around the club and his skills still set the benchmark. I would imagine that he would like to put in one good pre season to ensure nothing is left in the tank. People forget how hard he had to work to get a rookie contract and his leg injury curtailed his main weapon in recent years. Furthermore we have suffered from not having a good spread of ages on our list. We can't just be a under 23 side. In recent years the gap in the 25year olds has stifled the improvement of the draftees.
  14. Brian royal has a record of ruining any line he has coached. Unfortunately he has had a go at most lines and therefore has stunted the growth of the majority of our team. It's not personal the facts stand for themselves, the back line was stunted last year the midfield this year.
  15. I would give Brian royal the flick during the bye. He seems to to put the development of the line he is coaching backwards. Understand that he does not have the best talent in the midfield but week in week out our structures at the stoppages are breaking down and ineffective. Does not seem to have the acumen or technical capacity to break down the oppositions structures. Is sticking with him doing more harm than good?
  16. Lazy lazy lazy - makes football difficult to watch. Showed none of the tackle pressure and more importantly did not run to chase and close space defensively or lead as a forward should. Give him the benefit of the doubt he had a cold - but as a career footballer some desperation to avoid a career coming to an end is needed. Shows all the traits a someone who would prefer to be the big man at vfl level than work hard to be a good afl player.
  17. Bail getting a game is indicative of where we are as a team. He offers nothing - not a good kick - not a good clearance player - not a good tackler or stopper - not good on the spread or attacking. Not even a good ordinary player. Just an ordinary player. Maybe a great guy but won't be a great footballer or a great role player I.e Mackenzie.
  18. People want poor performing Melbourne players to be replaced by players dropped to Casey who have not shown anything special. Unfortunately for Martin, Fitzpatrick and Petterd they have not demanded a call up from Casey. Couch has been unlucky. At the Casey level all MFC listed players should start week in week out to demand a call up. I am not sure rewarding Martin, Fitzpatrick & Petterd not on form but on individuals having a bad games does us any value. Secondly the changes need to be for like or based on next weeks opposition. There is proof though that persisting with players like Morton, Davey & Tom Mac has seen them find a little form and has helped the team structures develop..
  19. Ad is dated June 2011 http://ultratune.com.au/television_commercials.html
  20. As all things it is a little bit of both. As a broke club we had to compromise on both when it came to spending money on the best coaching and recruiting. We also seem to be chasing yesterdays trend. But all is not lost, on a statistical basis Watts and Hurley are very similar. For a statistical comparison of players we have versus a MFC in hindsight list try the website below you will be pleasantly surprised when you do the comparisons. http://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/pc-melbourne-demons--jack-watts If Gysbert, Strauss, Tapscott and Cook all got some injury free football behind them I am sure our new extended coaching panel can get them up to speed quickly.
  21. On a shocker of a day when everyone was down Davey was not the worst. If you watch the clearances it was the BL outside midfielders who did the damage, so before we get rid of one of our few outside quick's take a breath. 11 possessions - 8 contested & 2 clearances when the highest clearance number anyone got was 5, 2 run downs and 1 goal was serviceable and not the worst. In a team that has so much sameness about it, his skill and speed around the pack (note not in it) is very much required. Beside what like player do we have to replace him? The best bit of today was Grimes and Neeld's press conference - the first bit of emotional grunt we saw all day. I believe Neeld will create the pressure needed to create diamonds, hopefully it won't take to long.
  22. Great to see jurrah picking up davey 7:30 this morning to go to training. Reading his book, getting up and going to training was one of jurrahs main challenges in the early days, I would like to believe jurrahs comments and attitude to training and playing is an indication that he does not believe the impending court case will stop his afl career. It would hard to be motivated to train if you thought in a few months time you would be prohibited from playing.
  23. Encouraged by Aaron daveys game, a team high seven tackle shows a willingness to work back from injury with the hard work that got him listed all those years ago.
  24. Where are the frantic post about our next sponsor being an Irish airline now that we have a green jumper?
  25. WISH I HAD A FEW MORE RUNS DURING THE BREAK Blease looked like he was going to spew after the first hundred meters. And was looking for the first tram out of there. Gysbert was hiding in the talls group and looked like he had just played a match. Jack Watts tried hard with the a list mid fields but started to look Out of his league after a few laps. Aaron davey i'm too good to train I just jog laps, disappointing I DIDN'T SPEND THE BREAK ON THE COUCH Tom mac Donald Matthew bate Steph Martin Jack viney
