I wonder how many games we would have won this year with a fit Ox and Neita in the key forward roles. I reckon we would be 4-1.

Keep it relevant redleg.

I wonder how many games we would have won this year if with a fit Robbie Flower, Ron Barassi, Bluey Adams, Tassie Johnson, Big Bob Johnson, Brian Dixon, Barry Vagg, Brian Kenneally, Ian Thorogood, Frogy Crompton, Hassa Mann, Ian Mithen, John Beckwith, John Lord etc. etc.

I reckon we would be 5-0 with a huge percentage

When melbourne were rock bottom last year. I was listening to triple m and JB or Barret, referred to melbourne as his demons.. And he replied with "they're not my dees" and that was enough for me.

U would never hear the Ox say that.

The thread is about Garry but the bump was about the article. Changing the fundamentals of the game and the competition again (and again and again and again), IMO simply weakens the already weak teams. They don't have the capacity to respond as comprehensively or as dynamically as the stronger teams do Flag the intent. Tread as softly as possible in that direction. Give teams a fighting chance - unlike many of the off-the-cuff rule changes over periods as short as an off-season. The talent vacuum that is known as GWS & GCS also began as some sort of financial competition imperative... how exactly has that turned out for the less well off?

Haha this is why I love Demonland - biggest over reaction i've seen in a while (week or 2 anyway)

Blokes in the media and is trying to be impartial - got flogged for the Neeld appointment publically and we wonder why he seems to not care....

Melbourne are [censored] - they have been [censored] for a while and we still are in the bottom 4... Bagging the club don't mean you hate the place it means you have an opinion - harden up lads and ladies

I'm not here nor there on Gazza's opinion. If you can sling shot it out of those defensive zones ala Geelong, you can be very exciting. For teams who are of a lower skill level, it can be a nightmare to watch. I agree with the Gaz Man on that front.
I don't mind Gaz showing his face at the club and in fact I think he should. We shouldn't burn him or Cuddles off because of what happened. We have been too eager to throw people to the wolves too often.
However, as I said before and I say this as unlike demon3, I don't know Gaz personally: brilliant player, shocker of a politician/kingmaker/administrator.
However, his playing contribution makes him a great of the club and we should respect that.

I think you're confusing me with Demon3 as he is now using the same avatar as mine Col.

This could spell trouble ~ gulp

Garry is a passionate Melbourne person and a great Ex player of this club, one who has suffered and bled and fought for it. He was an outstanding captain, was All Australian CHB and ALl Australian Fwd, one of his best games was in the centre against Essendon at Windy Hill. I think some people forget what a great player he was.

Yes, he made some bad appointments, along with others, and as someone mentioned on here, he has admitted to them and takes responsiblity for them. He along with a great deal of others thought Neeld was great choice, it was widely applauded as a top choice for this club. it didnt work out and it has cost us no doubt.

I know him personally, very well, so its no surprise that i will stick up for him, but he gives alot of his time to the club, loves the club.

His job now is in the media, and its to be honest, which he is, his comments about the game against the SUns are echoed around the state, it was awful, not just Melbourne, but the suns to. It was awful footy, and there is alot of it going on.

I think its time to stop the bagging of our ex players, criticise and objectively put forward opinions, but the out and out slagging is not what i associate Demons supporters with. We are better than that.

i don't think this is out and out slagging of garry. On the one hand we shouldn't crucify garry cause of his massive contributions as no.3 but on the other hand that doesn't make him immune from criticism and a protected species because he has a voice in the media. far from it - he should expect some feedback.

Sometimes in his role as an 'impartial observer' he may slag us off a bit more than he should to look neutral. This applies to all media commentators with conflicts eg eddie, jamie etc. who choose their disdain at their own clubs v carefully. They all need to choose their words wisely.

Only successful clubs can afford to look pretty. Footy is religion. Footy is about winning. This club doesn't have to apologize for winning ugly nor by any means possible within the rules.

If you want to watch something pretty go to the Ballet. I want the MFC to win a flag!

We know what Roosy is about, hes copped it before for winning ugly, as we start winning more, he will cop it again. One of our own shouldn't be leading the charge - intended or not.

I am just glad G Lyon is going to games with his kids.

I agree with the sentiment of the article

There is only one way to keep players in positions on the ground.

4-6 players on the bench.

Once you come off you stay off.

U would never hear the Ox say that.

BS, he's just as much a front runner as Lyon is.

Will never forget the time when Sheedy was sitting next to him on the panel of AFL Game Day, they asked him (KS) about coaching Melbourne, and Sheedy said "who'd want to coach Melbourne?". Schwarz just sat there, didn't say a word. WAP.

Then to come out during the Neeld years saying that he would do anything for the Club if they asked him, and just sat back and waited for them to ask - what a hero. Then to say, in a public forum, that he hoped our team got "walloped" in a game to help with getting our coach sacked. Yep, really respectful towards his old club.

These blokes rely on potting their old club whenever possible so that they continue to get a pay cheque. They have their own best interest at heart, first and foremost, the club is a distant and insignificant second. Articles read "so much better" when an ex-champion of a club is coming out criticising their own club.

What about the time against Geelong on the MCG when he was put on Garry Ablett sen., and held him almost kickless almost to half time. Garry's response was to elbow him up the jaw, (behind the play)knocking him out, so he played no further part in the match.

I think the scar under the right side of Lyon's chin is a result of that. Ablett later admitted guilt, saying it was for religious reasons, when actually it was because he found out there was video of the incident.I think he got 6 weeks. Did people see the footage of Garry sen. looking like a real "down and outer" in the stands last Sunday?

I can't believe what a fine citizen he has produced in his son.

My view is that any supporter who is a member and/or attends games or watches games us play on tv should be respected. It hasnt been very enjoyable watching us play, in particular during the past few of years, and good on Gary for taking his kids along to support the team.

Barely involve himself? He's one of the main culprits of why we find ourselves where we are. He was very much one of the boys club who along with Schwab and Connolly, took advantage of the absence of a very ill Jim Stynes. Not only did he tell Jim not to sack Schwab along with Bailey, but he was on the selection board that appointed Neeld as our coach.

He's been greatly involved, too bad everything he was involved in turned to [censored].

Wouldn't let him anywhere near the workings of our club for a very long time.

I understand that, and I agree his input turned out to be crap.

But I wonder if that resulted from his lack of commitment and willingness to take a role.

If that is indeed true, gary telling stynes not to sack schwabb and connolly, i wonder if it was because that would create more work for gary in covering those positions?

to be honest I can't really remember the exact timing of all of those incidents.

From the outside it looked like gary didn't want to touch the situation with a 10 metre stick.

So he did what he could without committing and really getting his hands dirty.

I wonder if it might have been different had he fully committed himself to the club in a real role.

Sure, maybe it might have been so much worse, maybe it wouldn't have been.

I don't know, but i do know that gary didn't want the responsibility.

and you right, i think I'm of the same view now, i don't think i want him to be too involved now either.

let bygones be bygones. The club can only act on things that are present and foreseeable future.

It's because Junior really believes in it all and has from a young age, Senior is just chasing redemption.

Top bloke, is junior, in spite of all the Jesus freak stuff.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
