totally agree - I think that over the last 2 weeks just about all have us have identified with a terrible feeling - that yes, we have made some progress, but we are still so far off the mark, and how exactly are we going to make up any more ground after everything that has already changed...? Well the players, particularly the likes of Jones who have years and years of beltings, must be feeling that about 10 times as hard as we are. How do you generate belief with such baggage hanging over your head.. and having half a side in is just really, really bad timing. Possibly losing your big name forward permanently is just a disaster. The thing that scares me to death is that it won't be long before we are up against a 100-point loss threat, which will just kick everybody in the guts. The other clubs, the media, they'll be all over us again, and pressure will start to go on Roos. It remains to be seen if we are a problem even he can fix, and I certainly can't see much progress with one of the worst injury lists you could imagine. I am just praying that there is a bunch of fine-tuning to be done by the coaches, as we get more match experience, and that there will something in the same hemisphere as our best 22 on the field sometime in the near future. Tough times as usual. Hmmm.

Contract extensions for Roos and Jackson to show they are in it for the long haul would help immensely. Knowing that Roos could/will be gone in 2-3 years would also have to have an impact, it puts even greater pressure on that we have to improve/win now before he exits the building.

Absolutely agree...

There were many positive signs over pre-season, but the thing that none of us saw coming was playing without our three key forwards.

Clarke, Dawes and Hogan all being out, and the extent of their injuries is potentially the most disastrous thing that could have happened just before round 1. None of their injuries are easy to overcome and it seems they'll be out for an extended period of time which makes playing each game for the rest of our playing group look very worrying...

If we continue to lose because of this heartbreaking scenario it'll only contribute to Frawley questioning further whether he'll stay and I'm sure others who are becoming sick and tired of being part of this club. Hogan is another who may question..

While I'm trying to remain as positive as possible, I think there's the potential for things to spiral downward again to a similar nightmare that was last years season...

If this were to occur - as in - we started losing games by hefty margins again because of our non-existent forward line and lack of quality through the midfield, then Roos and Jackson would have no option but to consider extending their contracts in order to somewhat calm what could potentially be another extremely damaging first half of the season..

I'm not jumping the gun yet, but I'm sure everyone, supporters, players and coaches are all thinking about this in some capacity.

Garland would've played VFL this weekend had Casey been playing, and most likely return for GWS.

Now it will be VFL next week and a possible return for Carlton in round 4.

I got the impression he'd be available to play AFL next week, which made me wonder why not this week. If he's not going to play a match this week and then come in next week, what is the difference. He is either ready or he's not. I don't understand why Garland has to play a VFL game before coming into the side. He's a senior player. Why not play him off the bench this week. God knows with the Eagles firepower he'd be handy.

Good God we are a sorry lot.

We are entering our 8th year of hell.............. and at the moment we can't even find any straws to grasp. Despite our injuries, a full strength in form Eagles, we must find a way to be competitive this weekend. The only positive I can find is that the game is at home.

I really like the idea of a forward line restructure

HF: Blease Fitzpatrick Kent

F: Kennedy-Harris Howe Toumpas

go abit smaller and quicker, i remember Carlton exposed the Eagles a little bit this way last year.

Yes, it actually reads okay for the stocks available.. Happy for Gawn to swap with Fitzy there too.

Much better without Byrnes and Pedo. They literally offer us nothing.

And kick the ball wide to the lead or along the ground, to disadvantage the tall Eagle backs.

Exactly, alternatively we could clear out the entire 50 and just leave Howe down there and kick it high

That's a negative in my book because now I feel compelled to go - if it was in WA I could ignore it and pretend it didn't happen.

Looking at the positive side of our injury list, besides our 3 tall forwards it looks like every is available either this week or next. You add Garland down back, get Viney into the mid field, Gawn will play this week and Jamar is almost right.

DrDrake zis is Demonland! We don't do positives here!!!

Any chance the club will rush Garland back for GWS next week without a VFL game under his belt? Or this is too great a risk that is likely to backfire.

A pity they can't find him a practice match to play this weekend.

We've missed him this pre season and round 1.

Yes, I'm sure he'll play. But he absolutely kills me..

He is unfit and doesn't make the most of his opportunities as a forward.. Extremely clumsy.

If he plays back on the weekend, that's a different story.

You really are a funny guy some times, so Roos went against everything he said and played an unfit in Pedersen against the Saints

Clumsy? he's playing footy not juggling, the guy in the nr 21 shirt right?

Then we are going nowhere fast.

Come on the guy would struggle to hold down that spot at Casey

He is in the side for one reason he is the only player above 6 foot not injured.

Saty - several posters have frequently complained that the inury updates Misson delivers are works of fiction. Given you apparently have good contacts within the club, how about asking Misson to address that in one of his updates. Doubtless some will just dismiss it as more spin but he may say something which will make them feel that there is nothing special going on at MFC compared to other clubs.

I'd be lying if I said the key forward situation wasn't seriously starting to grate on me. I'm trying to be patient, trying very bloody hard, but it's just ridiculous the luck we've had.

At this stage, I'm leaning towards Dawes being a mistake.

So damn filthy at our luck with these guys. So much promise, sitting in the stands, or not even that.

End rant. Sorry fellas. Had a gutful atm. I think Saturday is still burning in my gut.

Could have said this word for word.

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt
