yes, he jarred his knee.

I know we have a lot of bad luck, particularly with key forwards but we just need to relax a little.

The season is a long way away still.

You're very cool Song. Did this news have any impact on your training report "hard on" ?

On another note it was good to see Billy Stretch at training having a kick with Toumpas. Then went inside with Viney, made me feel old seeing Viney & Stretch together.

The most interesting post on this 104 post topic.

Is he even allowed to train with us? doesn't that violate some rule with future draftees, which Essendon was also doing last year?

Essendon got done for rookie prospects training with them before the draft unless they got done for another issue.

I believe Father Son Prospects must be different because the Bulldogs had Libba and Wallis training with them for various periods many years before anything was made official with those 2. Maybe there's a permission to train for father son process that we've submitted for. I'm not worried that we are doing anything wrong as it's not unusual.

This report in the Herald Sun covers the time trial with pictures and a report of the training incident involving Hogan's knee seems to have been tacked on:-

Jesse Hogan jars knee as veteran recruit Daniel Cross finishes fourth in Melbourne time-trial

In a training session that followed the time-trial boom youngster Jesse Hogan sent a scare through the Demons camp when he limped off after landing awkwardly in a marking contest.

The club said the 18-year-old - who is set to make his much-anticipated debut in Round 1 after being recruited in the 2012 mini-draft - was expected to miss 1-2 weeks of training.

"Jesse had an incident at training today where he jarred his knee. He has since been cleared of any major damage," Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney told the AFL website.

My guess is that the club will handle this with care and have the knee looked at closely. IIRC, a similar diagnosis on Hogan's knee came out when he injured it against Bendigo Gold in August. On that basis, that 1 - 2 weeks might well extend itself out a little longer.

He'll be gutted he can't get out in the 40° sun to work on general fitness with the boys, but as above, more time in the gym to keep building his body.

Training in 40° next week may work in our favour when we play in Alice Springs.

According to the club's website, all training sessions next week will also be in a place that's almost as far away as Alice Springs. Casey Fields. Probably because of the tennis.

Just wondering if anyone has seen Christian Salem at training. I heard tonight from a fairly reliable source that he has been diagnosed with a thyroid condition & will be on a moderated & limited training program? Anyone else heard this.

There might be something to this. At training the other day I noticed that Salem was talking quietly to one of the training staff on the boundary (don't know if it was doctor or physio) to do with how he was feeling and his effort levels. It was then that he pulled out of general training, I thought at first it was some kind of injury but then he did a little bit of running with no obvious discomfort.

They were definitely talking about something specific so something like this makes sense.

Anymore detail about the thyroid condition deestar3? Glandular fever?

Apparently his father also suffers from the same condition - he had fainted at training so will be on a modified program whilst they work it all out. This info came from the parent of a draftee who is from melb but has gone interstate so they know him well. But again it is just second hand info..

Glandular fever isn't a thyroid condition. More likely he either has hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid) which would leave him feeling very lethargic or hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid) which would make him anxious and jittery. Neither would be very compatible with your first AFL preseason. Both are usually treatable with medication but it's often not all that easy to find the right balance straight away. Hence a modified program would make a lot of sense.

Wasn't it a thyroid that virtually ruined the start of Troy Davis' first season after we drafted him?

Yes I believe it was. I'm not sure if it's something they screen players for or not pre draft. But I could imagine that players could be healthy pre draft and then the increased load of a big preseason could knock around their bodies and trigger illness.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
