New Major Sponsor: Automotive Holdings Group (AHG)

Great news.

But I'm a bit confused about who AHG is targeting. Does anyone buy a car by looking for a dealer who happens to be a member of their group? Don't most people look at a few models and go to the nearest appropriate dealers and see who gives the best deal? Also, customers will see the finance business through the dealers. Would they go to a dealer because they specifically want AHG finance?

So what exactly is AHG mass-marketing? Are they planning to push the centralised service-booking service perhaps?

I'm sure they know or they wouldn't be throwing money our way. Any marketing-gurus like to explain?

geezus , this is a whole different place now isnt it !! :)

Its looking like a footy club that has a list that looks like a footy team. Its got people at the helm who seem ( at last ) more interested in the furthering of the club ( than any t her agendas ) . Its getting people interested in hopping aboard the bus both commercially and from a following's perspective.

We've got Coach and staff who talk the club up and head the nuff nuff's of the nong-estate off at the pass before they can get a biased question out.

I am at the right place.......this is Melbourne....it is isnt it ??

If all this off filed overhauling doesnt filter through to game-spirit, then nothing ever will.

2nd tier sponsors can pay $1 mill a year if all goes well.

The value of the club has gone up today.

I would say it has been maintained. We are giving back and front sponsorship for $2m.

That is a million for each side.

How is a 2nd tier sponsor going to be paying as much as the Major Sponsor?

Hear! Hear!

Let's start seeing the results on the park in 2014 as well.

It is alleged to be $2m a year over 3 years but why would you start believing the press now ?

Rarely have been accurate with much written about our club over the recent past, just because it's a positive article I'm still inclined to take the figures being bandied about with a grain of salt. Confident in those in power to have negotiated as good a deal as possible for the club and more than comfortable that this deal is for 3 years which gives us some time and breathing space to crack on with the business of becoming a top club again.

True, but companies like that aren't trying to sell something to the public. They are trying to get onside with the public, ie. 'please don't object to our next mine digging a big hole in your backyard'.

Well said bb

It is difficult to believe we won't make a better fist of 2014 than we have over the last two years.

I think we still have a long way to go with our playing list

However this November you get a strong feeling that we are at least being run by a group of people that know what they are doing.

I feel substantially more confident than I have for some time.

they won't. That's what 2nd tier means.

Certainly looks like a strong, well run organisation.

My only alarm bell is that the future of car manufacturing in Australia is looking quite grim.

Despite that, people will still buy cars, whether or not they're made here.

I don't think they have. Opel and Webjet were paying in the vicinity of $1m each. It has been mainatained.

You say that the 2nd tier sponsors are going to reach a number that is effectively what AHG is paying us - it won't happen.

We will hopefully find some more periphery sponsors but we are still a fair way behind the bigger clubs.

I can feel the lid slowly being peeled off.. :)

I get the feeling PJ is starting to relax a little and in a good way. I wouldn't have been surprised if he actually came into the club with a full head of hair!
Great work PJ. I know you won't rest on your laurels and will keep fighting to make us a great club (the sad thing is you will probably be gone is 12 months) but so far the work you have done is top notch. Not only have you torn down the rotten old structure of the club you have replaced it with a foundation of pure bedrock. Now, we just need to build a house on it that will hold up during inclement weather.

My read on this is that Jackson wanted to get a similar amount to what Opel and Webjet were putting in and he didn't want to deal with a company that might be fighting for existence in the short term, he didn't want to wait and try and get a second one, he just wanted to move on and take the solid, if more humble, money from AHG.

There hasn't been an explosion of Major Sponsor money but there has been a lift in the solidity and credibility of the partner.

You know things are looking up when you spot Old Dee liking a post that exudes confidence about how we're being run. :)

At this time of the year, for many years, I have been optimistic and excited about the season ahead, only to have these hopes dashed early in the season.

My hopes this year are equally optimistic, but are laced this time with more than a trace of realism, given the huge off field advances made in the past few months.

I was initially wary of Peter Jackson, given his history at Essendon, though based not on his results, rather his passion for that club. I am now convinced that his appointment was a stroke of genius. Would Paul Roos and AHG be on board without him?

My wife is having trouble understanding why my usual glum expression has been replaced with a huge smile. Long may it last!

Well , slightly...off topic...but is a sponsor

Have to go to Sin city today for a funeral tomorrow and need a car.. Just hired a Hertz ( no not a Hurze....bad humour ? )

Their rate was indeed a good discount . Sometimes these things arent so good lol but their rate compared more than favourable. So cheers Hertz :)

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
