To the person who claimed (in the public poll) to have been on an AFL list: tell us your story! Alternatively, tell us the truth, as you appear to be about 15. Over to you Grimesyisgod! (It's never too late to change your vote.)

That's the one - behind the bowling club.

We won a flag as well ( beat East Bentleigh) and then proceeded to fold. Coincidentally, our social secretary took off with the funds too!

We came from fourth that year and unfortunately, yours truly tore a hammy in the prelim, missing out in the granny....spiteful game...

You guys were Swans colours, iirc? Elgar road? I think the most hated teams at the time were Collingwood District and Dandenong South - dirty bastards.

Gosh, memories! Part time job, girlfriend, uni, Dees, Prospect Hill hotel, HG Kinga and feeling bullet proof.....life was sweet.

Edit: Our ground was across the road from Blackburn High on Springfield Road, sorry about the mistake at the start of my post.

Yes I remember playing at the ground in seniors. Did you guys have Essendon colours? Did Nick Lyon play up forward for you guys or have I got the wrong Blackburn side?

Played with the Young Christians, a prayer before the game was our pre game routine, one of my fondest memories as was getting my regular massage from Father Peter, god bless him

I think I saw him at one of the MFC games in 2013

Did not know that one. He must have played under 15's. when I knew him he was playing for Box Hill colts I think.

Yep, he did play with the Colts, I had a feeling he also played at St Andrews but might not be right with that one. Same colours?

Nick did play with North Blackburn but they were blue and yellow, I have a feeling they might have changed to those colours. Testing the memory now.

Not many under age of 40 though dd36 ;)

I hear BBO wore a cap, lace up vest, 3/4 pants and a sizeable tash when he played.

Lol true but some of those blokes can harden up a bit and wack on the red and blue for us every now and then haha could use a Dustin Fletcher like player in our side every now and then!

Awesome story deeman. Hope you celebrated long & hard. Can you nominate for the PSD, reckon The Dees could use you. My footy journey was back in the mid 70's to mid 80's. Spent the decade as a wanna be wingman, trying to play like Robbie Flower, Doug Hawkins, Keith Grieg etc. I knocked out 100 plus games in the EFL which was the EDFL back then. Never played in a final but it was a tough violent era back then, you learnt to be game smart & use your fists when needed. Very happy my son is playing in a much cleaner, safer footy era today!

It would be my dream to play AFL for the dees :)

I guess what made us want to win more was because of one of my mates and the whole teams mate, had his mom pass away a few days ago before the game, we were all pretty upset for him and wanted to give him something to cheer about.

Some great profiles. Enjoying it!

I've played the game since vic kick. Was wanting to make AFL early on and got a chance with the chargers but was unfortunately cut just before they selected their under 18's side. The year of the 05 draft. Interesting experience, especially being brought up in a very different environment to most of the boys that played there... Most being at big melbourne private schools. Definitely helped me realise that we all mature at different stages in our sporting lives.

Have been playing at Old Scotch in A grade amo's ever since 19's which is a great standard. Didn't go to school there, a few mates invited me down years ago.

What I heard about the Young Christian league was a prayer before the game then clock the first opposition player who looked sideways at you and the odd brawl with the crowd at half time.

I think it was St Ignatius Richmond that joined the the ESCFA after being booted out of the YCA league. they came into E Grade. They kept winning but every week you would notice one of their players getting six weeks for eye gouging or kicking. Scary stuff. A few years later a mate of mine playing for St Leo's Wattlepark took them on in a Grand Final D grade I think and the cops had to called in. The supporters assaulted a boundary umpire, king hits behind play you name the game had everything.

Ahh those were the days! I am talking the late 70's of course.

Haven't been able to play sport since I was 16 due to ruining my knees from another sport.

But I did play a couple of games at school before that and was absolutely hopeless.

First touch I did a Majak Daw, second touch I chipped a tooth, third got caught holding the ball, and fourth I got a tour of the ground from the back of my jumper.

After that I decided it was best to retire and heckle from the comfort of my couch and keyboard.

Played juniors in Victoria for 2 premierships

Moved to Tasmania and played at the North Launceston Football Club for 5 years and then country football for one season

Moved back to Melbourne and played EFL for three years and then moved to the ammos for another season and a half before I moved to Ballarat and buggered my ankle.

15 years of football and the last seven have been copping [censored] for being a demons fan

Ground's correct, but we were yellow with a blue sash, as rjay said...the Mighty Eagles. Most of us were all Dees supporters, so the song was....'It's a Grand Old Flag...no surprises there ;)

Actually our secretary wrote to the West Coast Eagles, telling them about our club and the fact that were somewhat related....this is when West Coast first appeared and as gesture of good will, they sent over 40 training tops for free! That was nice of them!

Nick was before my time, but I used to watch him....sensational mark and a booming kick.

I'm now 30, total career tally games: around 20. I still love the sport, more than ever possibly, but my experiences with actually playing were almost entirely negative, and as I'm not getting any younger it's very unlikely I'll pull on a pair of boots again.

I went back to playing at 30 after some bad experiences playing junior footy.

VAFA has the Clubbies comp, which is more of a social comp for old blokes and the athletically challenged, although still highly competitive and part of serious football clubs. We have blokes from overseas that have never kicked a footy in their life come down for a run. Because everyone's washed up or no good and the team is managed by the players, everyone gets a fair run, at least until finals time anyway.

Fours year later I am still playing. One of the best things I've ever done, kicked the fags, Friday nights and Saturday arvos off the grog & mates for life.

Don't die wondering.

In the past 45 years I won have won more Flags as a player then the MFC has won.

One in the U/15 and another in the U/17. Pity my football career went down hill from there.

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,
