Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

To those of you who are saying that the MFC (and several of its supporters) overrates Sylvia, I direct you to Mahoney's comments in the article on the MFC website in which he confirmed that Freo's offer was substantially the same as the MFC's.

Freo is a top two team. Clearly therefore the MFC was not overrating him.

There's no good news in this.

exactly what would you have said otherwise ??? Hes no fool. The games still being played.

I hate west coast more than I do freo.

If I'm honest, my Hatred for both clubs stems from the one sided media, however their fans have a fair bit to do with it too.

West coast fans are spoiled with success. They don't turn up in the down years, but pretend they never went missing when they're winning again. Nothing worse than being at patersons at an eagles game. I even sat in the west coast members once, surrounded by middle aged bogan women with short peroxide hair cuts blotto on chardys! We lost, Enough said

Freo fans fit into two catogories -The die hard south freo fans (footy people) and bandwagon jumpers who only took an interest in afl when freo joined the comp. to make matters worse now that they are winning the bandwagon jumpers are coming out of the woodwork in their droves. I hate freo supporters because they pity me as a melbourne person these days, they've conveniently forgotten how crap they were for so long! pity from freo supporter? They are the worst club in the history of the game FFS!

I feel your pain but the Shockers are much worse then Methcoast.

Col will need to stay out of Freo at night as its a rough place.

Roos said on the news I watched earlier that "Colin has done the best thing for himself." Whilst he made it sound a sincere remark, I also believe it was double-edged.

Col was a very good footballer in an average to shite team. He wasn't always a star and his laconic style was misinterpreted by some as lack of effort. I certainly don't think this was the case. Good luck to him.

This year on the radio I heard Col best summed up by Leigh Mathews - I thought at the time it was great insight.

Lethal said Col would never be an elite footballer as his size didn't match his abilities - and he didn't have a natural position. Said he was a natural leading key forward but was 10 cm to short to hold down this position. However had the body size and foot skills of a midfielder but didn't have the peripheral vision, clearance ability in close or tank to mix it in midfield. Though Lethal was spot on - therefore, think he'll be handy on a fwd flank for Freo but not move into the category of elite AFL footballers.

Don't you watch footy when you're at the game, or don't you go ? You get a far different perspective when you're at the ground.

The guy couldn't couldn't work in an iron lung.

Lethal was spot on. But it's wasted on here.

Was Roos also playing the game in his first press conference when he said his priority was to re-sign Watts and Sylvia?

Have you not realised...Roos is ALWAYS on top of the game

But in all seriousness what would yo think Mahoney , or even Roos would say at this time of year. Its about promoting the value of all things Melbourne. Its spin and selective diplomacy.

its the silly season Ron. Smoke and Mirrors :)

Didn't hear Leigh say this but I've been on about it for years. The first time I saw Col play at Sandy I thought his reaction time and vision were second rate for such a high draft pick, it's part of the reason I don't think Col has never had the potential most others have been on about. He's always reminded me a bit of Kosi, not in size but in frustrating supporters who don't understand his limitations. I reckon he's delivered on what he's had to give.

I would argue with Leigh about the foot skills, he can kick long and hard but that's about it. Part of his problem here may be due to poor decision making and peripheral vision but he wastes a lot of ball.

He has also always been rushed and made mistakes under pressure.

He's just not that good.

why would you ever say anything different if you were asked that question in that position

persuades him to stay

ensures he feels 'welcome' if he does stay

potentially raises his compo/trade value if he doesn't

absolutely no motive for Roos or anyone else to say anything other than what he did, it means very little about what his actual opinion is

i'm sure somebody has said it already.. but 10 seasons his best finishes in the B+F were 5th,5th,6th and 10th. Hardly stellar in a team that has been shizen the last seven years

I am shocked. Posters on here have been telling me for 10 yrs he is a gun!

This is a bad time to lose him.

Our young fellas need support.

This is not a good day for the club.

Like has has been supporting them for the last seven? Most selfish player we had on our list. Last person to support anyone.

A lot less hatred towards Freo at least their supporters are genuine footy people who understand the game. On Lyons game plan I really don't buy that it can't stand up. Bounced the wrong way against the Pies in 2010 when Milne was free running in. 2009 they kicked themselves out of it and Freo's players froze last week the game plan was just not executed the way it should have been and their kicking was terrible.

We'll see, I guess. I'm not convinced they can win one without a forward who can really get the job done. I don't think they have one right now. The Lyon game plan is still quite defensive and that works for a side that doesn't have a true powerhouse forward, get in a KPF and I reckon they'd be well on their way.

I don't think you need a gun key forward, but come grand final day you need a forward to stand up and make a difference. For Hawthorn it was Gunston. For Freo, with a better start they way he played in the second half and based on talent it would be Michael Walters.

I think Freo are almost a lock for the grand final next year, whether they win it will come down to things like injuries and luck.

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
