I don't think there are any "dud" candidates.

There will just be one that is seen as being better than the others.

The best part is that we'll have at least 2 years to make sure he's not another "Neeld" before he takes the reins.

Geoge Stone set to join the dees.

Source, DD? Is this now a done thing as of last night and merely yet to be announced?

Was reported in the Age that sydney have given their blessing to join Roos.

Also remember Stone lives in Melbourne so decision much more easier for him and the Swans.

I read it somewhere earlier tonight.

Maybe Caro's article?

Sydney will concede we can have him since he commutes from Melbourne for work.

George Stone also won an Achievement Award at the Coaches Assoc Awards Dinner on Tuesday night, for his work at Hawthorn and Sydney, acknowledging his "broad contribution."

Michael O'Loughlin, first indigenous senior coach of an AFL team.

Bit left field but I'll put it out there.

Polly Farmer coached Geelong

Barry Cable coached North Melbourne

Back on Topic i am leaning towards Tudor and Simpson

My mate in Melbourne sent me a text last night saying Clarkson will coach the Eagles next year. Is there any substance to this or just more trade rumour crap? If he does do a Ross Lyon this could rule out Adam Simpson.

Mike Sheahan said that on the couch, said it is not a pie in the sky rumour.

And for those asking whether Dew applied o was approached Roos stated he did not approach Dew, Dew applied for the role.

Sydney are scumbags and I hope Dew breaks contract on them.

so we still have if you believe the rumours,

Kennelley ( development coach )

Stone

and Simpson or Burns to come on board.

Thats what they were told on Footy Classified, but Caro mentioned that she heard Roos had made contact with him.

Either way, its an interesting development that he is even being spoken of in the same sentence as Burns, Simpson, Tudor etc...

Gut feeling that this Senior assistant could be a left field appointment that none of us see coming.

Yup correct that they coached in the VFL. My comment about being a little left field was more that he hasn't really been mentioned as much as the other potential candidates.

BTW I'd love to see Bassett come into consideration.

If for no other reason than putting all on notice Id like to see the club push the Swans in respect to Dew..i.e Bring the AFL to bear weight on them and uphold the protocols. We mightn't take him but we should let all know now we mean business, and we wont be pushed around..In fact, we'll do the pushing.

What is interesting this time is the amount of really good assistant coach candidates that are looking to step up to senior assistant or take on a senior coaching role. I remember 2 or 3 years ago the pickings looked lean and frugal.

But I am trying to sort out rumour from fact (yeah, I know, good luck with that) and stick with what officials from MFC have actually said. From memory, in one way or another, MFC have confirmed having spoken to Dew, Tudor, Burns, Lade & Simpson. Any others that we KNOW have been spoken to?

Is Tadg Kennelly one of the prospects?

Have the MFC ever confirmed that Kirk has been approached or is it that they won't say they have until Freo exit the finals?

It also sounds like George Stone is a lock in.

I can't wait for next Monday when the Dees for 2014 starts to take shape.

Its a gentleman's agreement between clubs, the AFL isn't going to step in over this. Normally clubs allow coaches to go elsewhere when the position is a promotion.

What we don't know from this whole thing is whether the Swans were intending to upgrade him to a higher role next year. We know they were thinking of extending his contract.

then there's no agreement at all. The AFL might want to have a quiet word to Colless and explain the 'agreement" again

The Clarkson rumour has been floating around Perth for a month or so and I would not be surprised. Meth Coast are currently irrelevant in Perth and they don't like it.

They will want to climb back up again as quick as possible

Sorry I don't follow this at all, you are correct there is no agreement other than the gentleman's agreement that the club permits the coach to move elsewhere. However there is still a contract and Sydney is well within their rights to point that out to Dew that he is under contract, and they were planning on extending it anyway.

Sure it's frustrating, but Roos and PJ don't seem to be pushing the issue further than it has gone, we just move on. If it's true that he made contact with us, and it wasn't the other way round, and no interview has taken place (as such a thing was blocked by Sydney) then the media's assertions that he was going to be annointed the successor is perhaps a little premature, he would have just been one of the candidates just like any of the others.

Kinda similar to the 2.7mil bailout package that is infact only 1.45mil... yet another thing the media got wrong it seems.

George Stone has an extraordinary record for development, and is a huge bonus for the MFC. He IS a lock for the MFC, and my source is the only person in his world who is a little unsure how they'll cope with him being back home full time. :)

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
