Huge raps on this kid so far, but placement in the draft is still shady. Has been heavily likened to Patrick Dangerfield, whereabouts in the draft do we think he will go, and is he worth the punt at pick two?

Posted

He's my boy. Wouldn't be surprised if he goes top 3. I reckon the talk will get louder and louder after draft camp. Dangerfield comparisons are designed to get footy mouths salivating. And it's worked on me.

Has been labelled as a clearance machine, hard bodied, elite kick and the speed of Patrick Dangerfield. I don't know how we could pass.

Have you seen him play? If you haven't I guess you wouldn't know if we could pass.

He's not an elite kick. He has great speed, great build, is good at getting first hands on the ball, always moving at stoppages, can burst forward like Dangerfield, can also play forward and kick a few goals. He can shank some kicks, though he is generally good without being elite with kicking.

I'm definitely on his bandwagon. If we get another pick the first round via Priority pick or trading I hope we get this kid into red and blue.

Yes I have, l to me he has the most potential in the draft besides Boyd, while being able to slot straight into the team with big body.

Thanks 'mitch', good to know.

Right you are Spirit of Norm Smith. If we end up with a mid first round draft pick from trading, I hope we seriously consider this kid. (Josh Kelly testing extremely well as expected)

If we dont trade pick 2 expect us to seriously consider Freeman. Roos is a massive fan after seeing his draft results unfold.

Please for the love of god can we draft this bloke. He has elite quickness and a big body, exactly what everyone on Demonland has been crying out for.

I don't know what any of the recruiters are thinking but, apart from Tom Boyd who seems to be everyone's choice as # 1, there are perhaps half a dozen or so who could fill the next slot. If we can trade 2 for the midfielder we appear to be seeking (early to mid 20s with at least 8 years to play) and get a pick around 10 in return, we might strike it lucky. Whether or not we can do such a deal, I have no idea.

Do you have any quotes to back this up? Either I've missed an interview about it or you're just making assumptions.

Freeman is likely a top 8-12 selection BUT he is exactly what we need. Pace, strength, a Victorian and can play inside & outside game. Burst over 5 metres is Judd -Like. Would be hard to refuse at pick 2.

He's not even as fast as Watts over 20m.

Ok, I accept that athletically he is gifted.

But I'm more concerned with his workrate and ability to find the footy.

Don't wanna be drafting another flanker to play in the midfield.

His selection would be hard to swallow at pick 2, when Aish is so clearly a cut above.

all that draft combine stuff is useless really

Maybe casual observers put too much weight in the statistical results, but it is still a valuable tool for evaluating prospects.

Interviewing, psychometric testing, skills testing are all valuable.

Watching the players that give up when it gets hard, and seeing those that push to squeeze out that bit more, is invaluable.

I wonder how a kid like Lucas Cook would have responded that stressful and competitive environment.

Would he have shown the telltale signs of what was to come, for anyone paying enough attention at the righ moments

Maybe if you were evaluating him at the combine based on your own set of KPIs, you'd have selected him too.

I agree and especially in regards to cook.

We need players with a more aggressive mindset, a ruthlessness and a remorseless focus.

In other words, another Jack Viney, Ollie Wines type of player.

Players who appear to fit this mould just from observation... Kelly, Crouch, Hartung.

Tom Scully held the big 3 IMO, his results to date have not came to fruition - so far.

Jesse Hogan ticks all 3.

Jack Viney ticks all 3.

We need players with a psychopathic drive to succeed.

That is what the MFC needs.

Not just aggression and competitiveness.

Work ethic, desire, will power, confidence, resilience, character.

Few would be there if they were quitters, but you'd be able to see who stands above the pack.

If you're looking for the right things.

It looks like we can foget about Freeman as he has now officially become a Lions player with their Round 4 (Academy) pick (currently no. 57). Why can't we have an Academy like the interstate Clubs have? Surely the AFL is breeding an unlevel playing field by letting them claim elite players with late round picks!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
