A good Gemini like myself!! Welcome Glen...

Hit the Ground running mate...If you saw Jack Watts on the [censored] box last night you know how much work WE all need to do.

This club is a shell right now.

Not only that wyl, but took his first breath just a few months before our last flag. I'm looking for omens and that HAS to be one!

Well done Glen, it's now time to shake the tree.

My biggest question is went did it take so long to conform/announce?

He has been on the board for a few weeks. What have we been waiting for?

jobs done, now with some minor chair movements, they will get to the coach and player signing

So you want somebody who supposedly has no feelings for MFC being the President?

Ridiculous comment

And some of Don's crew as you so eloquently put it, are still there

YES! this outdated notion of people having to bleed red and blue is one of the myriad of reasons the club is in a piece. drag yourself out of the '60s Satriconhome. This needs to be a professional organisation where appointments are chosen purely on the basis of them being the best out there. Have a look at the worlds most successful sporting leagues and teams. they go out and headhunt the best to lead their organisation. The AFL isnt a saturday arvo kick in the park anymore.

Before yoo go bleating all over me, my understanding was that Bartlett is a Foundation Hero, so therefore he does have some feelings for the Club. so hence my comment, and the ridiculousness of the posters comment, and you also need to believe in something to be a Footy Club president 21st century or not......you still have to 'sell' the Club to others....so keep your snide remarks to yourself if don;'t fully comprehend what I have written......and as for your comparison, I could name at least 3 Premier Leagues teams where the chairmen are life long supporters of the Club

The only problem that I have is that he worked for a law firm called Clayton Utz which always makes me think of......

This notion (Schwabism) that Bartlett is somehow a less than passionate demon is completely unfounded. He'd been on the earth for 22 years before the Franchise existed. he's Melbourne.

Also, expect a gentleman by the name of Chris Lovell to be the next board appointee.

I cannot believe any of you would actually believe that the President would not be a Demon.

He has been a lifelong fan and more recently a Foundation Hero.

He is a Demon.

As if we would give the reins to any AFL lackey.

Your Board has to be full of loyal Demons. That way Jackson can be as ruthless as we want him to be.

With the emphasis on 'we.'

Congratulations to Glen Bartlett on his appointment as club chairman and best of wishes for a long and fruitful term in the role.

Let's hope the entire club gets behind him and his team and that they lead us to a successful future (and don't take long getting us there)!

Best part is he is a qualified lawyer.

I always felt the MFC were weak when it came to appealing anything as we had no one in power with legal qualifications.

Guy Jalland. LLB. Lawyer.

I wouldn't be worrying about Clayton Utz. They're big, successful and have a very good reputation in the legal world.

And if they lose your case you get a free pizza.

Who is Chris Lovell? Any relation to my favorite player to ever don a Melbourne guernsey in Andy Lovell?

ridiculous.

The board is not a paid position. The board is the members representatives regarding direction of the club. They can bring in non Melbourne experts (legal, finance, etc) but the president is Melbourne, he must be a supporter.

A for-profit company pays directors to make decisions in the best interests of the company: the best interest of the company is money making, not having a successful football team.

Volunteer directors at a not for profit organisation must have passion for the cause.

Our board will go out and hunt the best people to run the club. That is CEO and other staff. They don't need to be Melbourne people.

When you say "look at the most successful clubs they go out and headhunt the best" you do realise that it is the passionate supporters on those clubs boards that you are referring to doing the head hunt don't you?

The exception to this is privately owned clubs like uk premier league or nba, nfl. They are businesses. They make decisions based on making money for their owner not on success.

In the AFL we have clubs, which are different to businesses, even though we are now run *like* a business.

Unless you are advocating privatising the club you have no idea when calling for a non Melbourne president or board.

To be honest, if people are passionate AND qualified, I have nary an issue. It's just when the sole criteria of someone 'bleeding red and blue' is used to employ people or to put them in positions of influence is when I get annoyed. I hear a lot about how we 'couldn't find more passionate Demons' than Cuddles and CS but we tended to hear that usually directly after some massive f*** up they had caused.

I hope that the presidency is now settled, full stop. No Alan Stockdales of this world loitering in the background throwing mud.
Roll on Geoff Walsh!

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
