The article suggests the Crows would throw up Sloane to get the GWS #1 pick and therefore Boyd but I wonder if they might be tempted to trade him if there was a mini draft in place in our favour?

I think they are after Boyd, they need another key forward with Tippett gone and 'Tex' coming back from the knee. If we had access to Boyd or there was another key forward coming through then yep but we don't.

It's interesting to see that things are getting serious about that top pick, that Sloanes name is thrown up is a big one. Carlton wouldn't be able to match that unless they put up Murphy and even then I would lean to Sloane.

Sloane would be great, but alone is he enough for a minidraft pick or a number 1 pick?

I'm not convinced.

I'd want something else to go along with him.

No quotes, just speculation. They won't offer him up and he won't come here anyway, if the story of how we burned him for Jamie Bennell is true.

I would swap our first pick for Sloane, won't happen but he is a gun.

i know the family and they all say how happy he is in Adelaide. But his partner is from the dandenongs too and so are most of his mates. he stays in touch, comes back for all the 21sts etc.

Up to last Christmas Rory was very happy with new house, dogs, partner moved in and AFC. My sisters who go to the footy with his parents havent told me differently.

If Ruscutto really said he would trade him for picks/players it is a bit baffling.

It wouldnt be Rorys idea, I believe.

I was discussing it with my Osteo who is the melbourne side trainer for the crows and he says Rory is very close to Neil Craig and Crows are going to be very active in the trade period. But we both said yeah nuh.

Who knows? My wish is that he would come to MFC, but my head says no.

One should never say never and for all the bridges that might have been burnt by Bailey and Prendergast, Rory and the family would know that those blokes are history at the club and he would be starting at Melbourne with a clean slate.

While we wouldn't be offering pick # 1 for him, Adelaide have already had a good experience with the mini draft system by picking up Brad Crouch so they might be tempted to go to the well again and package a good trade if we happened to get assistance through a mini draft.

I'd give a PP up for Sloane. Wouldn't give a first round pick if we don't get a PP though.

Well if hes too immature know that clubs plans can change at the last minute and nothing is set in stone with the draft then he can stay in Adelaide

I'd trade pick 2 for Sloane.

pick 2 for Rory Sloane and 3rd round pick

he is an absolute Jet, he possess just what Melbourne need... a hard bodied dogish style player with Freakish amounts of talent

Viney, Jones and Sloane could start explosions if combined in the centre

WJ, you mention the mini draft all the time, have heard no gossip or media talk that this is even been discussed by AFL, wishful thinking on your behalf, or inside knowledge?

We had our chance to grab Rory Sloane as a youngster, interviewed him, almost promised a spot if he was available at our pick 35. Then we picked Jamie Bennell (recruiting gaff # 17...F%$#&).

Sloane went to Adelaide and his family was extremely disappointed. He is good but not worth a pick 2 trade.

No inside knowledge (and the MD sugggestion was raised by someone else first) but, as I mentioned on another thread, I think it would be a more palatable solution to the AFL and other clubs for the assistance to be given that way rather than by priority pick.

The way things are looking with respect to the pool of talent available, the addition of the MD to our first pick could see us get at least two top flight young midfielders from the under 18 system - one hard insider and one outsider - and a quality current day midfielder like Sloane for the next coach to work with in the future (assuming we don't mess up the picks and the player development as we have in our more recent past).

If we do it right we can get the right diversity of types and quality into our midfield mix to have us in a position where we can compete with the top sides in a short period of time.

... or if we won the GWS mid 1st Rnd compo pick, but if we had that I think we'd need to use it ourselves... for mids. who would we trade for Sloane? any go-homers?

Where can i find this story in more detail? :)

They can forget getting back into the first round for the draft then, they really don't have a lot on offer.

I reckon 25 for vince is somewhere around fair. But that won't get them inside the first round. If we got a end of round 1 priority pick, I'd throw it at Adelaide for him. Not a match winner, but we don't particularly need one patch winner. I'd prefer 3 Nathan jones types to Come in and add depth.

Rory Sloane for pick 1 (or in our case, 2)?! Wow. I know the weed is good in Adelaide, but seriously...

what do you think his currency would be? i'd offer fitz and a second rounder for sloan and a 3rd rounder or something like that, fitz would give them the forward/ruck that they need and a second round draft pick would get them involved at least.

Pretty much exactly what I proposed amongst my offseason plan in the list management thread (http://demonland.com/forums/index.php?/topic/34429-list-management-2013/page-3#entry789154).

Sloane for Pick 20 and Fitzy.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
