Rocket Eade to coach Melbourne (rumour)

Posted on another thread but suitable here...

Eade's coaching stats:

Took the Swans to 5 Finals series in 7 Years including 1 GF (54% winning record)

Took the Dogs to 4 Finals series in 7 Years including 3 Prelims (55% winning record)

His first year at the dogs they just missed the finals (9th) after less thsn 5 wins in the previous two years.

I kind of like the fact he hasn't won a flag, he'll have the burning hunger we need!!

Good point!

I just want the best coach for us (that is probably Roos but no one can tell the future)

Forget Roos YD he is gone north.

A good experienced coach in Eade then

A lot of work on our list over the next three years just might get us back to respectability.

Must have missed something.. I thought we had not been granted permission to interview Eade as of yet?

Not correct ? just curious

BB59 why are you letting facts ruin a good story, the OP was adamant after all regarding rumour.

I've always been quite keen for Mark Williams to be our next coach but I will be quite happy with Rocket. Experienced coach, smart operator, has taken a team to a GF, his other team to two consecutive prelims, and I really think certain players would blossom under him. In some ways I think it would be better to have him as opposed to Roos because it would be very easy to get a messiah feeling going with Roos whereas I think people will be more tempered if we bring in Choco or Rocket.

funny isnt it.. I would have Eade as my 3rd choice in all this.

Id have Choco 1

Id take Roos 2nd ( big of me I know ) despite all the hooha I think hes could well turn out as much a liability ( through expectation and short lived-ness ) as a coup recruit

and then theres Rocket.

Im not sure what my reservations are of him. Is it that he hasnt got anyone over the line ? But he did get them there ( none of our lot have for a long long while ) He does have a lot of rave reviews from his past players etc.. He, just, I dont know. Its odd .

But maybe its that hunger for final reward that might be the impetus for a seasoned coach to make that charge.

But back to the thought that had me writing this post.. we;re fighting, discussing, debating etc over three very well credentialled coaches. We will get one.

All in all

Posted this on the great ocean road thread but feel it is just as appropriate here.

We need to find a coach that works best with our list (and rebuild of) first and foremost. The coach with the best track record doesn't equate to getting and building the best of our list. IMO the 'premiership winning coach' mantra is a fallacy. If a coach is good enough to get a list playing regular prelims & GF's but hasn't tasted victory then he is as good as a coach who has won a GF. Surely other things come into it like, injuries, weather conditions on the big day etc. etc. Like big Arnie said on Pumping Iron. 'The wolf climbing the hill is always hungrier than the wolf on top of the hill'.

I hope whatever happens we find our form

I just watched the 2000 GF and we went from 14th the year before to Runners Up.

NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE.

then watched us beat essendon in 2012.

I teared up at the joy on their faces and the crowd.

Hird and Voss.. former captain/legends take over the helm.. worked out well.. over to you Nathan Buckley

The one big difference is that Buckley did an assistant coaching apprenticeship, the other 2 did a media apprenticeship.

There is an element I hadnt looked too hard at before.

This goes to the idea of, and this is radical so be braced, of: walking before running. We are so starved of success that we want it, and we want it not just now , but almost yesterday.

We need to build a team. We need , and indeed have some of the ingredients, but we havent that magical elixir that combines.

Were it to be Eade he may well provide that basic improvement. He may well provide the team wide epithany we all hope and pray for.

Any of the three will do this I acknowledge.

I wait.

So what are the reasons people prefer Choco over Eade... the flag he coached? Because Eade got pretty close to that.

Or the charisma and the marketing/selling of the club? I admit that Williams would be better at that although once we start winning that'll be the biggest factor so if Eade can lift our performance than that's the most important thing.

I tend to think that getting top 4 means the coach has done their job. They can't run out there and kick it too.

Marketing? Pfft. If we win we'll get fans. That's how it will go.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full
