bummers don't get a first round pick in 2014

but they get the next pick after the first round

this would be pick 18

errrr...isn't pick 18 a first round pick?

Now now, DC, don't go bringing common sense into this --- that will bugger things up totally!

What if other teams activate PP or other picks, does it push them further back?

I think the one thing that gets my goat about this whole thing is how could you not have records of what was given? I mean players vitals are monitored in just about every way imaginable these days, their BFI, diet, training loads are all monitored- yet we are to believe that no one kept records of what was being injected into the players on a regular basis? I don't buy it.

They either had the records and destroyed them, or they didn't record the substances at all, and quite frankly it's bloody hard to decide which one of those events is more frightening.

I'm not just saying this because of my unbridled hatred of this piece of crap team, but if I was a junior player at essendrug I would want out, and I would want out yesterday. I would feel betrayed and angry that the introduction to my AFL career has been hijaked by the biggest scandal in Aussie rules history, and I would always have to worry about possible ramifications from whateverr cocktail has actually been injected into me- on a regular basis.

They will burn for this, one way or the other. These first penalties are only the entree, ccan't wait until the full report is finalised and we have the meat and bones to feast on. yum yum

Is the whole ASADA thing over, or are those penalties still pending?

IMO its likely more charges will follow

If the relevant authourities go looking for evidence, ask the relevant people the right questions, I expect that the truth will come out. If there is nothing bad, then we can get on with the game. If there is something bad, premierships should be taken from the relevant clubs.

To start an investigation, you need some clear and not circumstantial evidence (or hearsay) to start with.

You are dreaming if you think any of the "authorities" are going to undertake a fishing trip.

I'm wondering when the authorities are going to finally get stuck into Stephen Dank.

It beggars belief that we constantly read stories like this one Texts reveal Stephen Dank discussed injecting Bombers with experimental racehorse drug and the man has yet to be questioned by ASADA despite the fact that it's had the power to do so for a month already.

566_two-leg-horse.gif

Some of the text messages sound like they came straight out of Monty Python but am I missing something?

I'm trying to think about what they could be waiting for and the only thing I can come up with is that there might be some consultation between ASADA and the ACC (which has interviewed him) on how to approach the interview and the sharing of information and there might be some jurisdictional issues involved.

Pretty poor form from the barrister representing someone who's supposed to be remorseful about his role in this saga.

True but we also need to know what Hird's Mum thinks about this matter!

They interviewed his Barrister, really! What for and who cares. Another example of the gutter style reporting that happens in Australia.

The thing with all of the involved parties at Essendon stepping aside in Feb, is that they'd have had no one to run the club in any capacity.

President, CEO, Football Manager, coaches, doctor... It would have been a bigger mess than what actually happened.

Such as a former player saying on TV, that his former club were into list management and he didn't like it.

But not like another former player and his assistant coach, both saying their club tanked and using the word "tanked" on TV and in the press and in a book.

Yes I can see how an impartial organization starts its investigations.

PS. I believe the AFL investigators had fishing lines, reels and rods and tackle bags, in the corner of the room they used as an investigation room.

Sometimes, even if you happen to be a $15k per day mouthpiece, it's better to say nothing at all.

Seems like the AFL's Counsel agrees with you.

He says most of Burnside's comment are just plain wrong and Hird signed an agreement which proves it and is now on the public record.

Hird continues to be defiant and plays the poor me card. I really hope the EFC is in the doldrums for years to come, every time there is a hint of contrition they bury it in arrogance.

Their ethos at Essendon makes me sick as a follower of football. As for Hird .....well he has shown himself to be an A grade egotist. There will be a big black cloud over this club for years to come and onfield success will always be questioned, because they are a bunch of liars.

You need to understand that no one at Essendon did anything wrong at all.

It is all the fault of the rest of the world, but absolutely, definitely, not them.

answer is to take "HIM" out, not his toys , methods etc...but him.

Now Im not advocating any such thing wrt Messendon, like your good self its just an interesting read

I think that the behaviour of Essendon and some of its officials in the supplements scheme, was disgusting and since February this year, despicable.

The ex player is a bitter social misfit. The ex assistant coach is a vexatious axe grinder. Hardly emblems of any integrity either of them

Is that all you got?

I can see how an impartial competent organisation would say "you're going to have to do better than that."

You mean getting arrested for drunkenness twice on an overseas trip, consorting with gangstas and doing wheelies tearing up the carpark of your training venue is not the work of a social misfit, not to mention an axe grinder of the highest order?

They will when they're in a position to include the NRL investigation, until that time nothing will happen with Dank. That's the hold up.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
