Melbourne has moved on from Roos

Recommended Posts

Interesting article in the Age about how it took a while for L Matthews to change his mind and coach the Lions.

Demons should keep pursuing Paul Roos: Matthews

Also mentions Alan Richardson as a possible coach. I think NOT maybe as an assistant but NOT head coach.

If we get another inexperienced coach I will admit myself to a mental asylum and chuck the biggest tantrum of all time.

I will go nuts.

Given both Williams and Eade have expressed an interest, and PJ has state that this is a job for an experience coach I cannot see that happening. But then it is Melbourne........

David Neitz was still keen on getting Paul Roos last night when speaking on SEN.

it is still only July much water can flow under the bridge yet.

IMO he is waiting to see what happens at Brisbane and Perth wyl.

I thing we are option no. 3

Beat Brisbane tonight and show we are better than our record indicates. If we are uncompetitive for the balance of the year, we won't get Roos IMO. If we can showcase the talent, we just might.

Roos knows what's there already. Agree that we need to be competitive and show what there is to work with though. Wins won't make a difference, in fact the most important factor IMO is what the Afl provide in assistance.

I would tend to agree. The rest of the season doesnt really impact the coaching decision ( unless Craig manages to win more than lose ) . Its really about getting the players more used to the notion they are out there to win, not to encourage draft picks

The coaching decision will sort itself out somewhat irrespective of coming scorelines.

I noticed on Monday's On The Couch, when Roos was discussing the prospect of coaching Melbourne, that he started his sentence with "As silly as it sounds..." then went on to say that the MFC coaching job is acually an attractive role, or words to that effect. "As silly as it sounds" - I guess the prospect of coaching MFC would seem a pretty "silly" one to many prospective coaches. If and when they start winning, perceptions about coaching or playing for Melbourne will improve, and pretty quickly I hope.

Funny thing is I was told by my contact that Roos was very much still a possibility.

Is your contact worth anything NSC? (By that I mean has he got other stuff correct in the past)

As does mine. Mine told me me that if the bookies would hold it, he'd back the rooster with plenty.

His info strike rate is very good.

But the chicken entrails and the tealeaves tell me nothing!

We need to seriously consider offering the job to Neil Craig, even if Roos does turn out to be interested, he has guys like frawley and watts playing some fantastic football, and he has the boys seemingly happy about playing footy again

Respectfully disagree with NC getting the job. I DO NOT want a senior coach at this club who is just a trier and a good bloke.

Craig does have a good record at Adelaide and I would like him to stay on at the club as a sports guru, however this club cannot afford to fiddle while Rome burns...it must get a coaching ticket led by a premiership coach and a succession plan in place.

ANYTHING ELSE is no longer acceptable.

My Brother had a good contact on the Board years ago when we were trying to lure Judd. He was often told "we're still right in this". We weren't and we never were.

That's not to say that we aren't with Roos. But you'll forgive me for taking no notice of some people even if they're well connected at the club. Their opinion can often mean jack.

I'm just interested on thoughts, but why would Paul Roos be a better get than say a Choco or an Eade who we would have to pay half as much money?

Because he would change the entire culture, not just be a coach, and also we would have a better chance of luring good players.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k

OVER YET? by KC from Casey

The Friday evening rush hour clash of two of the VFL’s 2024 minnows, Carlton and the Casey Demons was excruciatingly painful to watch, even if it was for the most part a close encounter. I suppose that since the game had to produce a result (a tie would have done the game some justice), the four points that went to Casey with the win, were fully justified because they went to the best team. In that respect, my opinion is based on the fact that the Blues were a lopsided combination that had

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was
