The Jake Lovett Thread

Featured Replies

Speaking of father-son prospects, young Cooper Schwarz has just been on the radio with his dad, and it was mentioned that he has won a Victorian championship in basketball.

Considering the lack of a decent talent path in that sport in Australia unless you're in the very top bracket; his father's own success as a young basketballer; and the transferable skills that are conducive to success in footy...

I dunno.

Just promising signs, I guess.

I've long held out hope for Coop.

Has his voice broken yet?

By the look of this photo taken this year, attached to HS article, i dare say he is a few years off even getting pubes, so is many years off showing any signs of being a father son prospect. Although i will say that i hope he inherits his mother's knees.

Maybe a Cooper Schwarz debut on Queens Birthday this year to excite the masses?

[schwarz family]

He can't be any younger than when we started looking at Billy Stretch.

Jack Viney was in utero when signed to a contract...

I see Lovett played on the weekend but didn't get in the best again. I wonder if he is in contention with Vic Country.

Anyone know anything about Hamish Brayshaw at the Sandringham Dragons?

Brother of Angus?

too slow lovey ;) ????

The game has changed a lot since his dad played. If he can't build a tank then he desperately needs to be great at almost everything else.

Can you reserve a FS for a rookie pick? I'd guess we'd use our fifth or sixth rounder if nobody else shows interest. Either way, just hope he builds into some ripping form.

I'm pretty sure you can get a FS with a rookie pick. Didn't essendon get Jake Long as a rookie this year?

Any news? Is he playing in the U18s championship?

believe he's in the vic country squad but didn't play first state game on sat

need to keep him well hidden

Can he play? His numbers don't seem too inspiring for a key midfielder playing in the guts.

From The Herald Sun:

The Demons have shown interest in the inside midfielder, who spent a week training at his old man’s club and was given a fitness program to follow during the early part of the year. Has has a solid if not spectacular season for the Dandenong Stingrays, averaging around 15 disposals a game.

From all reports in the media and what has been suggested it sounds like he will be lucky to get a rookie position at this stage (see what happens for the rest of the year, still a lot of time).

A rookie pick would be ideal as we can develop him for 2 yearsand still promote a vandenburg etc. He may be the type to develop later with endurance.

Jake suffered a bit of a set back with a hip injury that has hampered his season, while it has not been an impressive season to date, I am told the Club is aware and will monitor his progress.

Expect him to drift right out of contention with so called experts, but my understanding is that he will be in contention for drafting come end of year.

He should be a demon regardless. Adds to the romance of the Demon uprising. Viney, Lovett, Stretch.

Good for memberships for the older crowd. To have old names running around is good for the club. Lovett sounds like an ideal late pick - that could reap rewards.

Inside ball winners are good picks anywhere in the draft - let alone later on.

If we can get him for the right price and he will be the best available then we go for it. I don't want to do what the Pies have done and pass on guys like James Stewart and Jake Kelly to only see them blossom elsewhere. If he has the potential to be a player and he is there for the right price then I would hope we would jump all over it.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
