Sylvia wants to stay

Recommended Posts

no, a strong coach wouldn't.

a strong coach would work with him to get the best out of him.

that's the sort of negative feedback that mark neeld goes in for.

the leading teams worldview has a hell of a lot to answer for; if implemented correctly it can work well, but if it's done poorly...

Only if you don't understand how to do it in a constructive way, rather than negative.

You're out of your depth.

You Even thought he had no tackles.

You've got no clue.

Try going to a game instead of looking at a stat sheet for once.

I still want him gone, but only a fool would single out Sylvia after today.

In case it escaped your attention ths is ACTUALLY a Sylvia thread, hence the attention given him.

Im hardly the only one who didnt bother travelling the Geelong Rd yesterday.

You want him gone yet you seem apologistic for his lack lustre .

I'd prefer he is moved on, but I watched him put in yesterday.

He's not smart enough, good enough, or a good enough leader to persevere with, unless there is minimal cost in keeping him.

Having said that, he chased, harder than I've seen for a while (bar the last 2 weeks) and laid some hard tackles.

He wasn't great, but was hardly terrible in a side getting smashed.

I'm not an apologist.

I just don't criticise where it is unwarranted, and you seem the least qualified person in this thread to comment.

You weren't there, and you're relying in factually inaccurate stats sheet.

You. Do. Not. Know. What. You. Are. Talking. About.

Re signing Watts, Sylvia and extending Frawley, would make a significant impact on us going forward. Besides getting the right Coach, this is a task that we need to achieve.

Sylvia is not perfect, but at 27 with 150 games experience and a new Coach, who might get 3-4 years of his best football from him, he is a keeper. On top of that to lose him for nothing would be a disaster.

FA compensation isn't great, but I think we'd get an alright return for Sylvia.

It all depends on how much we have to pay him.

I thought they had scrapped compo. Even if they haven't, we would get pick 50-60, given what they did to us last year. Would you trade him for that?

Mate. i watched the replay. Whilst it hadnt all the camera angles it had some. His off the ball efforts are like that of someone who feels like he has to do 'something' but hasnt the real ticker for it. How does someone who is supposedly playing a 150th and for a new contract put such a half hearted game on the pitch ?

He would be rated as in the top 10% at the club for marking. He is quite capable overhead and in a contest ( when bothered ) Others , not so blessed, seemed able to make some marks stick in those conditions.

Where I have difficulty with much of the Sylvia argument is.. If he ISNT what hes cracked up to be , then why bother keeping him ? if he is as good as some beleive he may be one day ( this day seems elusive to the max ) then how long does a reasonable person/team wait. 10 years apparently not enough...please....honestly

if he cant do the job, move him on and spend that money on an import that WILL. its really that simple

Red...lose what...if he isnt performing then you lose nothing . He is way past the "potential" player description. he ought to be there. yes still not. Quite amazing

Well I would prefer we didn't let him go for nothing but its line ball with me. The ideal scenario is to swap Col to a club like Geelong and maybe get one of their 23/24yo players with 85-100 games experience. I believe we will go nowhere with Col on our list. There are clubs he would be ideally suited to but they aren't Melbourne. (And yes I do realise he can walk for nothing).

And BTW writing in bigger caps doesn't make your point any better :)

I know, but every now and then my computer goes funny and type is minuscule. I then use biggest type. Don't know how to stop it happening.

I would expect a secound round pick following our pick.

Pick 22ish.

I would prefer to keep him, but if he left I would be figting for that.

I take a different view - he just wasn't ready.

Had a few other lessons he needed to learn before taking on the role.

Would have benefitted from another 5 years or more as an assistant.

I think he was capable in regards to some aspects of coaching.

Which ones ?? Sorry to ask... I really feel we should move on from MN... GONE GONE GONE ......

No Chance, we will get third round, Col is the great under acheiver, he doesn't get high on our B&F count, the only way we would get second round is if the AFL give us this instead of Priority pick. Considering Buddy will go for pick 19 or 20, the AFL couldn't give us 22 for Sylvia.

With Sylvia and Davey off the the list we will have the $ to trade in a midfield star. We can't continue to hope that Col will turn the corner and become the A grade mid that we see at other clubs. Why can't he be our Luke Hodge and a real enforcer in the team that the opposition know will hurt you at every opportunity?

He's had this chance for many years but just can't make it. Just a B grader that we've all grown used to as being the most potentially damaging strong bodied mid we've had at the club for years.

These last 6-7 rounds will need to be Bruce McAvaney level special to change my mind about Col.

Colin is really at the crossroads if that is what he dishes up for his 150th when the whole club is on notice.

Astounding that 2 years after 186 so little has changed on field.

70 inside 50's to 19 for the entire match

What other proffessional organization dishes up such swill year after frigging year??

Davey and Col are what they are....they will not take us up the ladder.

Yeah, this is the AFL we are talking about. They are making it up as they go.

I expect to see Pick 22ish if Sylvia goes.

Wernt tha media saying that the Hawks would get pick 20 for buddy through FA, can't see how Sylvia would be valued at pick 22, hope your correct but pick 22 is aiming high.

He would get Pick 20 because the pick you receive is either before a round or 'mid-round' and that is the pick behind a team's pick.

If we were to lose Buddy Franklin it would be Pick 3, for Hawthorn it is Pick 20ish.

I expect a second round 'mid-round' pick - Pick 22ish.

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
