Move Sylvia on while he has currency

I like Sylvia at MFC but I dont love him..I would trade him yes.

We need a Ball magnet. And Chunk cant do it all by himself. At the moment he has a sidekick in Terlich as an apprentice and even Terlich is going better than Sylvia I would have to say.

Trenners also is not cutting it for me atm either IMO, but his pre season stuffed him. So he has an excuse.

Does Sylvia have an excuse for not dominating games? He should be. And he isnt.

Terlich is an absolute Gem and I think will be a smoky for B&F!!

It's also worth noting that there's a lot of older players i.e O'keefe at 32 in career best form. Now I'm not saying he will ever perform the same as O'keefe, but he could still potentially have 5 years left in him. Do we just want to get rid of all players once they hit 27 and above?? We NEED to keep Sylvia.

This year Sylvia's currency has gone from the Dong to the Ringgit. Better than the Chat other players are worth. He is a keeper due to a poor list

I guess the point we could make is that since we cannot trade him, we may as well sign him up.

We have money in the cap, and he isn't a total liability. Trust us to invest 10 years in his unfulfilled potential only to now lose him for nothing. Typical.

In summary, sign him up, but don't kill yourself trying to do it. More important contracts to nail first.

am so ambivalent about this guy.

Hes not top shelf ; he ought to be.

We need x players. Offer him reasonable conditions but not overboard .

I will just run through the options for those who are unsure of what will happen;

1. Sylvia re-signs with us.

2. Sylvia leaves for another team through free agency - we don't bring any FA in and receive a probable 2nd round pick (ND22).

3. Sylvia leaves and we pick up a comparable, or near comparable FA - we do't get any compensation for him leaving.

You can trade RFA but no-one has tried to trade an Unrestricted FA and I don't think the AFL will allow it - the former club has no hold over the player.

I hope he stays but it is up to him. I am not about to beg Colin to stick around, he should make the hard decision and finish his career with the MFC.

It is, as it is Nathan Jones' 150th and Jeremy Howe's 50th matches also.

Interesting that Jones and Sylvia will both play their 150th this week. As far as I know, Sylvia hasn't spent much time playing in the VFL based on form. And his debut was in 2004, two seasons before Jones in 2006. He has missed around 44 games of football through injury (or suspension I suppose!) that Jones hasn't. Adam Cooney has 194 games, even Farran Ray is nearly a season ahead of him with 168.

Funnily enough, apart from his first season where he only played 3 games, every year he has played more than 15 games.

In perspective of why he may want to leave, in 10 seasons, only twice has he played in more wins than losses.

I noticed something in his play against the Swans.

When the ball drops, a player changes direction or a stoppage is cleared - Col has the strength, running power & skills to do what's required of him in these situations but he's slow to react to a change in the play. One instance I saw Jack clear a stoppage by moving to a good spot to recieve an OKeefe handball. Col had the power to chase and lay a late tackle but wasn't able to stop Jack clearing the ball. If he had of reacted earlier to Jack's movement he wouldn't have been in a position to recieve.

Hope he re signs. Away from the club he seems settled. I just wanna see the best of this guy.

Yeah let's trade him because he was a top 3 draft pick and he should be the best player in the league by now.

What a rot. This year he has played his most consistent, team based footy of his entire career. It's a shame he never got a hard taskmaster earlier in his career or he might have become a more complete player. That said, I'm extremely happy with how he is playing this year as opposed to every other year waiting for him to become chapman. Like other posters have pointed out, 4.5 tackles a game, he is she parsing and chasing. I think he would be right up there in our "pressure acts" list. Sure he isn't getting 35 touches and kicking 5 goals a game, but why does he need to? This club needs blokes working hard both ways, 18 on the ground giving 100% the whole time. We have the base set for a really good midfield and we need to focus on developing what we have. Instead of this club being seen as a retirement village or halfway home for players not quite up to it.

Pretty much the matter of things.. Sylvia is only worth what we get if in terms of exchange. Otherwise a keep... all in all hes not that important , just another brick in the wall, though a self running brick often and not always a wall player.

Like Moloney, unfortunately they're "just footballers", but I firmly believe to be one of the top line players requires a certain level of intelligence that hasn't been present in our more capable players in recent years.
