Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Interesting. He's been spot on recently

I think 10 is ambitious.

More like 3 or 4 real suitors, maximum.

The rest would be "Varcoe & Taylor Hunt for pick 2" type ******** trades.

I think hes Mike Sheahans son too.

That's fantastic news (if true) with still a week to go.

I have a feeling we are going to end up with a pretty good deal for pick 2 and we won't be taking it to the draft.

Yep, that's his son.

Tony also called Buddy to Sydney before anyone else even entertained the notion

I imagine getting Vince or Lyons just got a tiny bit harder with Polec nominating Port. Still worth a go, but the Crows might not be as keen to trade now.

Don't think it will matter - Crows are desperate to get into the first/second round of the draft

All we need is for one club to get a bit desperate with all the interest in pick 2 and offer us a bloody good deal that we take instantly. That's all it takes.

Yep... and essentially, we cannot lose on this one... either we get a deal where a club pays overs for pick 2, or we keep it and get the best available in the psd. Win, win!

Exactly. It's a pain that we don't know more info about which clubs are keen and the type of players involved, as outside of this interest we know nothing else, but we need to remember we are in a strong position here. We either get a fantastic kid with pick 2 or we upgrade our midfield talent in a big way.

Can anyone remember the Judd deal to Carlton? What pick they used ? Etc seemed to be a lot easier for them to land Judd with a high pick, I think it was two and Kennedy yeah?

Maybe ten clubs thinking they can deal but in reality probably only 2-3 have anything we want.

Might some very ambitious deals being touted by some clubs hoping we for some reason are desperate to waste it. Of course we arent. Fall back being using it ourselves

So a deal might get done yet. im leaning towards we end up using it though, especially if we can get some of these other deals i.e Vince, Lyons, Michie, Cross done then the urgency for an immediate gun subsides a little.

I cant see us wasting it.

Pick 3, Kennedy (a recent pick 4) and pick 20 for Judd.

Yeah I was making this comparison the other day and reckon Freo have done better with Sylvia than Carlton with Judd.

et me explain - What would you rather me give you $100 and you give me $80 (Judd deal), or me just give you $50 (Sylvia leaving for free).

Free agency is a huge advantage.

This is funny...

I hope you're right bbub but recent history would suggest otherwise.

there were different ppl at the club then . Haven't you noticed a change in the ways things are done ?

A reasonable point but it was more like Judd was a crisp $100 note and Sylvia $2.75 in silver.

Pick 3, Kennedy (a recent pick 4) and pick 20 for Judd.

Given that Judd was the absolute jet of the comp Carlton definitely won that trade.. Just ironic that they lack a kew forward atm..

Say we had just for example.. Josh Kennedy from Sydney keen.. And we traded pick 2 say (a player Sydney need) and pick 21.. Would it be worth it?

I definitely think so..

Or

I'd be offering up pick 2, Fitzpatrick and 20 for Rockliff and say Karnezis or a first round pick..

You've got to give abit to get and Brisbane will need a key forward soon.. And we are desperate for a gun mid!

Thoughts?

Every club in the league would have a midfielder we would want.

not for pick 2 though

I personally think Carlton didn't win that trade as although they received Judd who was a super player they lost a very good forward in Kennedy plus 2 other high picks. You can tell by their lack of depth that this affected them. That is why you should be careful how much you give away for one player.

They did what they needed to do. Imagine if they were without Judd the last seven years or however long, I think they'd still be in that hole. People tend to forget how bad they really were.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the
