Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I'm not after Robinson for his skills, just like Gold Coast weren't after a silky smooth footballer with Campbell Brown.

Robinson is a dumb, tough, battering ram. He is the sort of player that will make the nice boys like Toumpas and Trengove walk a little taller and give our side a harder edge.

I am so sick of the opposition walking off the field against Melbourne feeling fresh while Davey, Watts etc embrace the opposition with a hug and a kiss. A side with Robinson, Viney and Hogan (blokes that love smashing a body) will go a small way to changing that.

Get Robinson and I also suspect you go a fair way to getting his dumb partner in crime, Eddie Betts, as a free agent. Given some of the spuds we have on $500+ I'd happily pay the overs for Betts and stick him at the feet of Hogan and Dawes.

Agree. I absolutely hate the guy, but, emotion aside, he's the sort of guy who could probably add a bit to our midfield (as long as we don't have to pay/trade too much).

For the same reason I now think it is time to adios Watts, I would welcome Robinson. Less skills, less awareness but will fight for our team rather than pick and choose what battles to enter. Every time.

How about...

1. Swan or Beams (Coll), Kennedy (Syd)

2. Greenwood (NM)

3. Swallow (GC), Adams (GWS)

4. Sewell (Haw), Dal Santo (StK)

Pick 3 of those and our midfield would improve immensely. If they are what suits our needs, no harm trying. Go hard, if that's the case.

Kennedy (Syd) Adams (GWS) Sewell (Haw)

don't know enough about these boys to say, Greenwood (NM)? Swallow (GC)?

Lets be honest.. if you could pick 3 players out of these group and that Melbourne should target, who would they be and would you be willing to give away Jack Watts, Pick 2 and Colin Sylvia

Mathew Stokes

Dustin Martin

Mitch Robinson

Eddie Betts

Tom Rockliff

Dale Thomas

Nick Dal Santo

Please, I don't want to be rude, but Sylvia CANNOT be used in any trade. He is an Unrestricted Free Agent....he can go WHEREVER he wants.

FYI, Robinson was clearly second best player on the ground today against Richmond. 25 disposals (11contested) at 88%, 9 marks, 7 inside 50s, 5 tackles, 4 clearances and a goal. Not bad for a dud with no skills who "picks and chooses" his contests.

I won't say who was best on ground.

It was McLean.

But McLean was very good.

He doesn't always, like pretty well all players there are times when he chooses his contests. Marking contests are where he gets a bit iffy.

Why would he come to Melbourne?

Coin, you say?

Okay, say we offer him 100k - 150k more than Carlton, I think he'll pick job satisfaction.

Clubs trade players out for needs, they need JW we need another tough player to help Viney and Jones, this clubs not going to be on the bottom for ever it's the last 2 fools that coached us that have in this position, there's plenty of talent on our list and a good coach will make a huge difference, people might laugh at this but i think Gawn and Spencer are going to turn into very very good ruck man, hopefully this kid pulls up ok today and do yourself a favour and get to the G and support the club.

Another demonstration of your defeatist attitude, and besides the point. We are discussing his value and whether the club should go after him, not whether he'd want to come. Some of the arguments against so far verge on ridiculous.

"I don't like him" - and? who does?

Not skilled enough for Melbourne? Really? Give me a spell.

He took the most marks of anyone on the ground today,

Just admit you are nitpicking. To question his attack on the footy is absurd.

Wow, take it easy P_Man....I was playing devil's advocate. Bryce Gibbs was named as best on a few radio stations, but I acknowledged McLean played well.

Where did I say I didn't like him? Or mentioned his skill levels?

Fyi, I'm neither here nor there with Robinson.

I tire of the negativity is all. I'm guilty of it myself at times, and as a club we're getting nowhere until we think and act positively, and that includes the fans.

I was referring to the arguments in general against going after someone like Robinson, which to me are thin.

Fair enough.

I'm just being realist, as I've seen quite a few 'rebuilds.' I want to see players sign on the dotted line before I get too excited.

I am, however, excited by the potential coaching line up that may include Simpson, Ling and Lenny Hayes.

Jumbo, I just can't get my head around this: you explain that you've seen numerous rebuilds and that this has affected your outlook. Each of these rebuilds has involved an inexperienced coach and you want to go inexperienced again?

This just makes absolutely no sense. Experience should be priority right now because we have lacked people with knowledge of success, that has been the ultimate factor.

Neil Craig at the helm, DJ.

Then, a succession plan.

Probably am nitpicking but he does put in the short steps when coming back with the flight, he's ok when it's in front of him. I just don't go with the line about him being fearless or a kamikaze, that's more someone like J Brown who doesn't know whats good for him.

Just as there's no point judging him on his worst game I wouldn't be too quick to use his best game as the benchmark.

He's just a player. Good for him that he had a good one yesterday.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
