The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

Wasn't that impressed by Jarman Impey.

My lasting memory of him is seeing Matt Crouch almost kill him with his attack on the contest, completely fairly and going the ball.

Impey had to be helped off the field and didn't compete for the rest of that day.

Not sure that says all that much about Impey…Matt Crouch is a bit of a beast, especially at U/18 level.

No one in this year’s draft pool would attack the ball with more intensity than Crouch.

Don't forget that 2003 draft was the antithesis to the 2001 Superdraft. It was typical of Melbourne's luck that we had two picks inside the top 5. A year later the same 2 picks would have netted R Griffen and L Franklin although we probably would have stuffed that up

2003 Draft from pick 3 onwards was

Sylvia

Ray

McLean

Bradley

Tenace

Raf Clark

Trotter

R Dunn

Waters

Ryan Murphy

Stanton

Fergus Watts etc

There was some cream later on but the high picks were very average. Arguably our picks were as good as could have been

this is right, & shows just how badly our leaders were off the pulse of AFL, not knowing when or how to 'List Manage'.

couldn't even pick the Right Year to LManage. Let alone which players to take.

The 3 week FA/Trade period is nothing but AFL self indulgence.

1 week total would be enough time IMO

Disagree. Have to give clubs time to do their research, check medicals, have a look at the draft crop and due to the restricted nature of AFL there's no later period of trading available so it has to be done all at once. Maybe it could start a week later officially but still give clubs that time after finals to do their leg work.

Warning, warning,.................... whoever our club manages to entice simply must have some pace, legspeed, quickness, or whatever you choose to call it, period!

Without this facet we are still 5-8 years from winning consistently.

Relax, Kane Tenace and Andre Gianfagna have got this.

While I appreciate everyone's right to an opinion, It seems that a few people on here just throw up quotes to shoot down potential players ... quotes like another hack, spud, useless and others. As I said everyone can have an opinion but how about throwing some names in yourselves that you think would be available and able to slot into our team (which shouldn't be hard because we are pretty poor)

It used to be one week, but then the AFL had this great idea to feed AFL to its supporters all year round to detract from any A-League, T/20, NRL, Spring Carnival, Cricket news.

Also let us be honest about the position this club is in ... There is not much chance of us luring an out and out star to this football club. No matter if we have pick 2 or not. If you were an AFL footballer would you want to come to a club like us?? Regardless of Paul Roos joining us, the club is a very very hard sell and will take a hell of a lot to get back to regularly competing with the bigger clubs.

Cook is an aberration. Simply the choice of an [censored] selector .No one can figure out how that happened. I believe the expert pundits rated Tambling higher in that draft. it also highlights that clubs were particular about finding players to fill roles. The Dogs were after mids, not forwards etc ot they would have taken Buddy surely.

Some things become more focused with the benefit of hindsight but what does OUR club need right now.??

Cook was selected because he was seen as the next best tall forward in the draft, he was selected on needs as we needed a tall forward.

Wallace has said on a number of occasions that Tambling was selected again on needs, they were looking for mids.

Drafting for needs is a very dangerous exercise. We take what we see as best available.

I have faith the guys in charge now will make the right decisions.

Or how about not, how about starting a fantasy thread where people can throw up names they want.

This thread is for posting actual trade rumours/news that is going around, can we try to stick to that?

If I want to read about Essendon and ASADA I'll go somewhere else and read it or neck myself for wanting to read it.

Ummm didn't you just contradict yourself ?

This thread is for posting actual rumours ???? How is that different from asking people who they think is available. In fact I'm fairly certain that's how most rumours start on here ?

Also I don't believe I said anything about Essendrug or ASADA just players that we think are available and we could get. Basically instead of calling everyone a hack how about telling us who you think is available and we could get.

I did just contradict myself, but it was unavoidable. Don't take it personally, I've wanted to post this about 53 times when I've clicked on this thread hoping to read the lated rumour, instead reading someone's opinion on some bs that has nothing to do with a trade rumour.

This isn't the try and start a rumour thread. There's, trade radio, twitter, newspapers, websites and word of mouth, can we try to stick to these "sources" when posting.

Posting other BS breeds more BS that we have to wade through, as seen in these last 3 posts, to name a few.

That is fair but isn't trade week on here mostly BS if we cut out supposed sources and rumours this page would be 5 comments long. As you stated there is newspapers twitter facebook and more for rumours so why would this be any different? No matter what people try this time of year will always encourage rumours and BS in fact im tipping 1 in every 500 posts on here from supposed sources turns out to be true. That's just the way it is here. I don't disagree with you at all just stating that no matter what this time of the year is always full of BS no matter where you go to look

I'm trying to get the thread back on track, that is all.

I don't use twitter or listen to the radio or read newspapers, I check in here to see what's going on. There a million others threads to read opinions.

I thought coming into a trade rumours thread to read about trade rumours was a reasonable request, but I'm a simple kinda guy.

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
