In other words TD, we are not pulling off any coups whilst all the other Clubs swap their stars around! Mighty disappointing! I hope that we get a PP and can snare Boyd and stick it up them that way!

You guys have much less faith in Roos than I do. This guy is seriously competent.. He will get the best outcomes...

You never know but I don't suspect so.

I'm not one of the one's for drafting Boyd. I know he'll be good but we already have Clark/Dawes for the next 5 years or so, Fitzpatrick for 8 and Hogan for 10.

I'd be more then happy if we did score Pick 1 to trade it to St Kilda in exchange for Montagna & Dal Santo to join Cross, Aish & Zac Jones that will form part of our midfield along with Viney, N. Jones, Toumpas, Sylvia & Trengove.

You'd have to think the club would be planning what they'd do with picks 1, 2 or 3 given it's hard to know what we will end up with,

if we got pick 1 i reckon i'd be asking the saints for Jack steven and pick 4.

You talk about the longevity of our forward line, then propose trading our top pick for 2 guys who have 2 years left in them at best?

I have the Saints response for you now; "D26, GEAD" or something like that. lol

we're not getting a priority pick. I can confirm that from Chris Langford who sits on the Commission. End of.

Pick 2 it is

Not even an end of first round pick?

Posted

No. We just got Paul Roos as senior coach. That in itself is worth a priority pick. Major reason the afl cited we don't need one is the port adelaide example.

Very dubious about this being correct.

Does this mean ANY team from now on can't get a pick because one team turned it around in a year? No logic in that.

There's no way they would use that as a "major reason".

I couldn't imagine the coach would be a consideration, you just need to look at our record

how many 90 plus point losses did we have this year and last year is over 10

percentage this year of 52

declining crowd numbers

1 win in 7 years against a top 8 team

34 wins total in 7 years

widely thought of as the worst list in the AFL

we have a very very strong case, they have to be able to argue essentially that us being found not guilty of tanking overrules those points.

Yes exactly right. Looks like he will stay at Richmond. No one wants him

Makes those posters who were so stridently saying we should sign him look a little silly doesn't it.

You mean the example of getting two 2nd round picks for Chaplin and Pearce when we we got a single crap pick for Beamer and Rivers, even inc Byrnes.

If you are right, the PP is officially dead. The decision board can be immediately disbanded.

How does it work, do Roosy and PJ put in their case to the commission in person?

I think it was a written submission.

Interesting as we have had probably the worst 7 year period in modern history. How does the AFL refuse a PP under those circumstances? If they do what circumstances would then be needed to get one?

That is why I think we will get one around Essendon's pick or end of first round.

100% agree. To be honest i don't care that much, though of course it would be ideal to get a PP. But i get furious with some of the arguments as to why we shouldn't get one, including the argument that by asking we are reinforcing a losing culture.

Any suggestion we shouldn't get one because we got Roos is just plain moronic, i mean jeez how on earth are the two things connected? Similarly moronic would be any argument that Port's success could be a factor or that the other clubs being angry should be considered.

I understand why the AFL made the criteria for a PP obtuse but this is turning into another example where the AFL just make things up as they go. When they make their decision i hope (but do not expect) that if we don't get it there is some level of transparency and accountability as to why.

Agree redleg - if we don't get it scrap it.

What i'd be interested to see is if they say no, surely they'd have to give a reason, what reason do they have?

you were found not guilty of tanking

a previous administration stuffed up some picks before

the other clubs don't like the idea

it's obviously in the best interests of the entire comp that we get back up to scratch as quickly as possible and an extra top 10 draft pick in my opinion is the best way to do it

i'd be happy with pick 5 or pick 9 or whatever even with the condition we have to trade it

You should know better than to expect reason, logic, consistency or transparency from the AFL commish, Stuie. Of course they'll just make it up and use whatever reasons for whatever outcome they want. That's exactly why they got rid of the formula. They could very well say that it's because they don't like the particular shade of red on our jumpers

watch this space....................

I think he won't stay at the Tiges, & I think its interesting this breaks just after Conca signs on for 3 is it? Tigers won't have the money he wants I'm sure... hmmn, then GWS says no thanks...

"corralled"

now, where is that giant Budweiser gone?

As much as I love chunk, he is not an elite player.

He is great and may reach that standard next season or in the near future but he still has a way to go. It is probable that the fact that the team is rubbish affects him a bit and may hold him back from being better but he still has the occasional brain fade or time he can't break a tag which keeps him a rung below elite.

He is by miles our best player and I'd back him to become elite but I don't think he is at that stage yet.

Have to agree to disagree, DJ.

I don't want to sabotage the thread, but I reckon he is elite and he carried a shite side this year.

He would take on so many and win the contest 90% of the time. it's not his fault that he had no support.

I reckon young Viney is modelling his game after Jonesy.

As for breaking a tag? Even G Ablett struggled to beat the close checking of McKenzie and Garland in our game against them.

So, curious as to how does that decision get made prior to the commission actually meeting next Monday?

Very glad I realised that we are in the Trade/Draft Rumour page... for a moment I thought I was in the recruiting fact thread.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
