WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - PAUL ROOS

Clark, Dawes, Viney, Frawley, Garland, Jones, McDonald (minus the brain fades), Trengove, Watts (with work rate) and a young kid called Hogan. There we go, OD. :P What do you think? Clark was pretty much injured all year. Dawes played half the year and played with restriction. Hogan hasn't played yet. Trengove's been suffering from a lack of pre season and possibly OP, and I believe (as does Roos) that he still has A grade capacity. Frawley was in and out with injury and Watts doesn't know what his position is, but with some shrewd guidance and a position to make his own (the wing), he'll be up and about as well. Get some top notch support staff around Roos and there's much to be excited about. Things could turn quickly.

If Trengove has A grade potential he is hiding it very well!

But otherwise you raise valid points.

This is the moment to shove him out the door.

Well, he still averaged 18 touches this season. We should expect more, but I think it will come with some top guidance and a full pre season. Confidence is also a key factor.

Still have full confidence Trenners will come good, he certainly seemed to improve as this season went on, a full pre season and he might be a totally different player.

Sorry if this has been reported elsewhere, but the following appeared in an article about Carltons search for a new midfield coach:

'Swann said the club had a shortlist of targets, but would not expand other than to say Carlton did not believe ex-Geelong premiership captain Cameron Ling was available.'

Promising!

That could just mean that he is staying in his role in the media.

you have 14 but you named Mcdonald twice. I'd add Matt Jones though so that's Ok!

The interesting thing about it is that include Matt Jones, that list only contains 3 midfielders.

It has 3 KPDs, 4 KPFs, 1 Ruck, 2 medium/small defenders and a small forward/wing (Kent).

To be competitive the 14 should have 10 midfielders.

Add Jordie Mckenzie too, our midfield is much improved with him in the side.

I think the playing group needs the break to put the past few years behind them and get themselves mentally tuned to the fact that when they return they'll be facing a completely new football landscape with a new coach who, if it is Roos, will no doubt inspire them to new confidence levels. Of course, it seems almost certain that 25% of this year's playing group won't be returning at all and whilst this is not greatly different to the number who left last year, we can have some confidence that the incoming 25% and the influence of the new coaching group is going to lead to a substantial improvement in the next few years. That's definitely something the playing group didn't have 12 months ago.

But given Roos' past comments he is more likely to say the opposite and say "Sorry Jack, you've had a rough time but I can make you a better player".

What will you say then? Sack Roos?

As I've said before, if we get Roos and he wants Watts, then that is good enough for me. Certainly better than what any posters here say. Ditto if he doesn't want him.

I heard Healy and Russell interview Ling the other night and he's strongly weighing up whether he goes into coaching next year, or spends one more year in the media. He didn't give much away, but I leaned to him staying in the media for one more year.

Offer him his own segment on DeeTV as a sweetener.

If Carlton is seeking a new midfield coach, does that mean that they don't want Brad Green next year? (Carlton development coach appointed in 2-12 but foccussed on the midfield?)

Not to dampen the mood here, but Roos hasn't met with MFC Staff as reported on here, and hasn't been confirmed.

He will not be at the B&F tonight.

And you know this, how?

To be honest I haven't heard that roos meet the staff, I thought I read that the staff were told.

That would seem odd though given the lengths we've gone to keeping it a secret, but not unbelievable if it's only to be announced within the week.

Used to work at the club, so I've asked some people.

They've got their fingers crossed as much as we do

Actually, if I recall correctly no-one on here reported that Roos had met with the staff... someone said the staff had been addressed in a meeting and informed that Roos was coming. The only mention of meeting with Roos, was in relation to the leadership group.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int
