I was at a party with an MFC employee last night. This person's office is next door to PJ's. I took everything he said with a grain of salt. But this is what he told me:-

* PJ is a shrewd operator and all MFC employees are having to earn his respect;

* 4 redundancy packages came across his desk on Friday for four members of our football department;

* the following companies would become involved with the club next year and bring in potentially $2 million in sponsorship - Singapore, Range Rover (how appropriate!) and Priceline;

* Roos is all but signed having met with the leadership group. The boys were like excited kids after the meeting;

* Walsh is on board. I asked why he would leave Collingwood to come to us. I was told that he didn't. Walsh left the Pies due to all the internal pressures there. Buckley likes to rule the roost. Then you have McGuire, Pert and all the other heavy hitters trying to have their two bob's worth. He said there is definitely tension inside that football club.

* Chip Frawley was not in a good head space in the middle part of the year. Injured, and unhappy with the direction of the club. The change of coach and the media beginning to ask question his standing in the game have turned him around.

* The players did not like Neeld (nothing new there);

* The club would be active in recruiting. He spruiked all the usual names. Although he did mention that we had had a chat to Scott Selwood, who is keen to come home;

* All employees at MFC have so much faith in the direction PJ is taking the club in. This person barracks for Essendon but is genuinely excited about all the changes going on at our club.

* Lastly, I found this disturbing. He told me a priority pick was all but assured, but that we wouldn't want to win today. That sounded kind of familiar. :(

Time will tell how accurate he was.

Great post SO39 - thanks.

Sorry to dig into the highlighted statement, but because Chip is one of the players we can't afford to lose, I get very paranoid about any comments that suggest he may leave.

I take it from your comment that he has turned around ie, he pretty well wants to stay a Demon now.

Yes RB. Apparently he got his old bounce back (he is a prankster around the club) and could not wait to get out there and play some good footy for MFC.

Like that would sway him...

If we land Roos, and Watts still wants to go (unlikely, I think), at least we will now be in a better position to secure a good trade for Watts - the other player will presumably be happy to join the Dees, rather than threatening to retire from the game altogether if traded to the MFC.

Surely the chances of landing Adams have now increased dramatically.

If you haven't red this I think you need to especially in light of the Real possibility now that Roos will coach Melbourne Next year

It reads like his Blueprint and also what he believes he can and cannot deliver

"Demons fans will want to know immediately how soon the club’s on-field fortunes can change."

This is where the challenge begins for the new coach.

Unfortunately, for Demons fans, I would suggest the new coach won’t be able to provide a satisfactory answer at his first press conference.

Most of the list will need to be closely looked at by before he can make an assessment of how quickly things can turn around.

The biggest question on everyone’s lips is: is Melbourne’s on-field performance a reflection of poor recruiting or poor development?

If you dissect the list there are clearly some strengths and weaknesses.

The Demons look to have three good tall defenders in James Frawley, Colin Garland and Tom McDonald.

As we know, defence wins premierships and there are many teams who would love to start with these three players.

Equally, the forward line could consist of Mitch Clark, Chris Dawes and Jesse Hogan. Certainly, at their best, these three would trouble opposition defenders.

We know what Clark and Dawes can deliver and, by all accounts, young Hogan is destined to be a star.

The midfield is clearly a major concern. At the moment you have probably Nathan Jones as the only midfielder who would walk into most sides. As important as it is to have great defenders to stop the opposition scoring, the main defensive and offensive weapon is a hard running deep midfield.

Your mids will create defensive pressure and dictate how many opportunities Clark, Dawes and Hogan will get.

However, it is not all doom and gloom because the current list has three potential stars.

Jack Trengrove was a star leading up to the draft and I still fully believe he could become a genuine elite midfielder.

Jack Viney and Jimmy Toumpas are highly rated kids and have already shown glimpses of what they could be in the future.

Sam Blease is another. Has he been underdeveloped or is he not up to AFL level? You would love to give him the opportunity to play multiple games in a row and find out.

If the Dees were to be granted a priority pick they could address their midfield weaknesses quickly. That being the case I would look to trade either Pick 1 or 3 for the best midfielders available.

There are many talented players on the list who have not reached their potential. In no particular order they are Colin Sylvia, Jack Grimes, Aaron Davey, Mark Jamar and Luke Tapscott. Over the past two seasons we have also seen some very good games from Max Gawn, Jack Fitzpatrick, Dean Terlich and the very exciting Jeremy Howe

and then there is former No.1 draft pick Jack Watts.

I was there the day Jack played his first game. I have never seen a fanfare like it and is it any wonder he has never lived up to that hype?

"It was one of the biggest mistakes I have ever seen from a football club in handling a young football player."

( I have always said this and I couldn't agree more )

Make no mistake, the Demons need to keep hold of Watts because he is incredibly talented and still could be a star.

He needs a coach that will find a position for him, play him in that position and teach him what it takes to be a genuine AFL player.

We must also remember that even premiership teams have players that are not stars but play a role and play it well. I’m sure those players exist at Melbourne.

Clearly some smart trading and drafting is needed, but if the Demons get everything right they could have a competitive team next year.

Probably but Roos has to SIGN on the dotted line first.

Most of that resonates well with me apart from the bit about the priority pick and not winning today. IMO the way the PP rules are framed, we qualify because of the very long period of time in which we have languished as a poor side. Our best effort over seven seasons has been 8½ wins (twice). Our record in 2012/3 has been 4 wins and 2 (possibly 3) wins. In the decade 2003 to 2012 similar or better records have seen several clubs reap the benefits of the PP and two clubs - Hawthorn (Roughhead & Franklin) and Collingwood (Thomas & Pendelbury) - have won premierships as a result. That's not to mention Carlton, who have been the main beneficiaries with multiple PP's and admissions from an assistant coach player of tanking (without the AFL blinking apart from a ½ hour investigation from an AFL official who also happened to be a Carlton premiership player).

No, the result of today's game should have no bearing whatsoever on whether we get draft assistance under the AFL rules and the Commission is duty bound to provide it to us. To hear of clubs like the Bulldogs (Cooney 2003, Griffin 2004) bleating that it's unfair reeks of hypocrisy of the highest order.

Besides which, I've tipped us to win today. :lol:

Is there a way to filter the posts in this thread so that it only shows actual news or discussions about the possibility of Paul Roos coaching the dees? :)

1. First impact if it is announced - membership to 40K next year. Nearly all my dees supporting mates don't have memberships anymore - many since Juniors sacking. they will be back.

2. Attendence at games - it will double for dees supporters.

3. No more excuses - shape up or ship out.

4. New momentum - even if the first year or two is tough the direction will be set up right and momentum will build.

5. rumour Roos met with the leadership group already (which I thought was odd given that two of the leaders are supposedly in Flagstaff Arizona exercising)

6. attracting good players wont be a problem now.

7. Rumour that Kennelly wants to come across as well - the irish connection.

what, you want to homogenise things?

just go to the MCC forum, that will probably have that type of forum, all the dirt & grit filtered out.

I have had a few people mention to me we were chasing an interstate midfielder hard, had no idea Selwood was on the table, instantly my preference over Swallow and Sloane

And probably doesn't like the fact that his Essendon supporting mate at the office is whispering into you ear...

Thanks for telling us though!

I have a funny feeling the boys are really going to come to play today, hoping we get over the line for flash, D-rod and Joel mac, but mostly i hope this meeting with Roos and so on has given the boys some hope and confidence things are well and truely on the right path!

bring on the new dawn of the MFC

    REDEEMING by Meggs

    It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

    How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. EASYBEATS by Meggs

    A beautiful sunny Friday afternoon, with a light breeze and a strong Windy Hill crowd set the scene, inviting one team to seize the day and take the important four points on offer. For the Demons it was not a good Friday, easily beaten by an all-time largest losing margin of 65 points.   Essendon threw themselves into action today, winning most of the contests and had three early goals with Daria Bannister on fire.  In contrast the Demons were dropping marks, hesitant in close and comm

    DEFUSE THE BOMBERS by Meggs

    Last Saturday’s crushing loss to Fremantle, after being three goals ahead at three quarter time, should be motivation enough to bounce back for this very winnable Round 5 clash at Windy Hill. A first-time venue for the Melbourne AFLW team, this should be a familiar suburban, windy, footy environment for the players.   Essendon were brave and competitive last week against ladder leader Adelaide at Sturt’s home ground. A familiar name, Maddison Gay, was the Bombers best player with

    BLOW THE SIREN by Meggs

    Fremantle hosted the Demons on a sunny 20-degree Saturdayafternoon winning the toss and electing to defend in the first quarter against the 3-goal breeze favouring the Parry Street end. There was method here, as this would give the comeback queens, the Dockers, last use of the breeze. The Melbourne Coach had promised an improved performance, and we did start better than previous weeks, winning the ball out of the middle, using the breeze advantage and connecting to the forwards.

    GETAWAY by Meggs

    Calling all fit players. Expect every available Melbourne player to board the Virgin cross-continent flight to Perth for this Round 4 clash on Saturday afternoon at Fremantle Oval. It promises to be keenly contested, though Fremantle is the bookies clear favourite.  If we lose, finals could be remoter than Rottnest Island especially following on from the Dees 50-point dismantlement by North Melbourne last Sunday.  There are 8 remaining matches, over the next 7 weeks.  To Meggs’

    DRUBBING by Meggs

    With Casey Fields basking in sunshine, an enthusiastic throng of young Demons fans formed a guard of honour for the evergreen and much admired 75-gamer Paxy Paxman. As the home team ran out to play, Paxy’s banner promised that the Demons would bounce back from last week’s loss to Brisbane and reign supreme.   Disappointingly, the Kangaroos dominated the match to win by 50 points, but our Paxy certainly did her bit.  She was clearly our best player, sweeping well in defence.

    GARNER STRENGTH by Meggs

    In keeping with our tough draw theme, Week 3 sees Melbourne take on flag favourites, North Melbourne, at Casey Fields this Sunday at 1:05pm.  The weather forecast looks dry, a coolish 14 degrees and will be characteristically gusty.  Remember when Casey Fields was considered our fortress?  The Demons have lost two of their past three matches at the Field of Dreams, so opposition teams commute down the Princes Highway with more optimism these days.  The Dees held the highe

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

    It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out
