WELCOME TO DEMONLAND - PAUL ROOS

I hate to be a wet blanket here but I think many of us are vastly over-anticipating what Roos is going to do for us. If it was 1991 and we had 22 of him it would be a different story! The fact remains we have major list problems. By my count we have 7 genuine footballers and a bunch of hopefuls, and a staggering number of aloso-rans like Tapscott and Strauss who seem to have no 'special' quality for any coach to unlock. The 05/06 grand final teams that Roos coached had Kirk, Goodes, Hall, Barry, O'Keefe, Bolton, Buchanan, Kennelly, McVeigh, Crouch etc. It remains to be seen to what extent they were a successful team because of Roos himself. We certainly do not have a group anything like that at this moment in time.

Of course it is a big step in the right direction but let's not get carried away and raise expectations too high, particularly early on. He still needs to rebuild his list, instill a new gameplan and mould the players into the team he wants, erasing years of bad habits in a group with zero confidence and very little heart. For one thing I don't see how he can 'fix' the issue that we have a list full of blokes that make outrageously bad skill errors with staggering consistency. What could of course make a big immmediate impact is if Roos' signature creates the opportunity for us to draft in an established quality midfielder or two. However, I for one will be looking at 3-4 years from now in a team headlined by Viney and Hogan for any genuine on-field results... (but you never know...!)

I don't think anyone is expecting dramatic on-field improvement next year just because Roos is there. I for one expect us to be very much bottom 4.

Having said that I expect a "Sack Roos" thread as early as Round 5.

Let's not forget that Roos is not only a Premiership coach, but he kept a side in the top half of the ladder for nearly a decade straight, without ever needing to bottom out and without the aid of top draft picks. The culture he created up there and his ability to instantly make the MFC an attractive place for players to come/stay is what excites me most.

And if he doesn't sign now what then ?

After how so many here have put their heart on their sleeve and committed already to a Roos lead revival !

All I can say Roo's, is go on sign the bloody thing and lets get on with it

Just don't bet the house on it, at least not quite yet .

But in case you do and he doesn't than you can always turn to the help line for problem gambling to let your frustrations known

Please just don't do it here

I'm just glad I don't have a gambling addiction , but if we did get Roos I have to admit that could just change :)

http://www.3aw.com.au/podcasts Half Way down 3AW Football Preview you can listen to it online or download the entire show (apprx 36mb) the Roos discussion happens at the 22.10 mark.

well glad you are not the coach. Happy to take roos assessment of the team...nobody expects miracles but I think it is sheer arrogance to suggest that your opinion is where we are at . I was listening to Luke Dalhaus who said he had the worst skills by hand & foot at the club last year & he is still working on them. With hard work, good coaching & most importantly confidence ....a lot can change.

Anyone think it might be worthwhile to give Sheeds a call to see if he's available?

I think he needs to dust his cape off, & fly back into the Essendon Airport hanger,,, where he was Jet'isoned from.

they need his spruiking & old fashioned inner straight talk,, urgently.

I think we all know that mate. Although I reckon we've more dormant talent that some believe.

I'm delirious. You can please yourself.

Yup.

How can anyone pour cold water on this?

This is the absolute best possible scenario for the MFC

it is like a dream

There are dozens of positives and literally no negatives

I'm pretty sure what we're currently seeing is stage managed PR ( pun intended )

Listen to language now used. Consider the relative timing of many and various.

Roos has already met leadership group. Has been in constant discussion with club for months.

PR's pr is running this til its all above board.

This is a show. Script's been written ..agreed to.

Is the hot water service in the change rooms on the blink?http://basham.com.au/insidesauce.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/kevin-sheedy01.jpg

Sheedy's not available

He's pre-booked to unglug the blocked sewer pipes at his former club.

It's a long-term job involving copious use of cover-all-odours perfumes ( imported in bulk from New Orleans houses of ill repute )

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
