Sign Jesse Hogan up for 5 years (Suns and Jack Martin)

I wouldn't sign John Coleman to a 5 year contract

Ironically Coleman never made it to 100 games because of a career ending injury

We are in no position to roll the dice on long term contacts and to do so would be irresponsible

Is that you Cameron Schwab?

I'll be honest.

If you were Jesse Hogan's manager, and Melbourne tabled him a 5-year offer, even if it was sizeable financially, would you recommend he sign it?

Right now, that's not a certainty.

There is no way I would sign on if I were him in the current situation, it's just not going to happen. If the club can get back on track next year and show some signs for the future then it would be a good option for both to extend his contract. Now, it would be a stupid move for both parties. The current football mob are going to be too busy packing their own desks.

absolute hogwash and unlike you I have actual inside info. While a new coach might help he was loving the Dees preseason and wants to continue playing with Mitch and Jones.

the thing that will make him go is fickle supporters who say he doesn't smile enough.

If by murmurs you mean people on here panicking thinking the sky is falling and that every player with any ounce of talent wants to walk out, then yes there's plenty!

I'm pretty confident that the club would have done a fair bit of homework on the type of person Hogan is and the likelihood of him wanting to go back home given the investment they've made giving up such a high draft pick fos someone who couldn't even play this year. I reckon you might find that Hogan, Viney, Toumpas, Kent etc are all pretty determined individuals and they'll be keen to help lead the club out of it's current mess.

Anyway he can't just leave without the club agreeing to a trade. I think everyone just needs to take a deep breath....

This guy is the best talent I've seen walk into the club in 40 years.

Every cloud has a silver lining. He'll stay a Dee and I can't wait for next year (said that before).

Agree with your view of him and I have seen him play and I was salivating.

I pray you are correct about him staying a Dee as at the moment he is ours for the next two years only. We need to be on the improve next season if we can't get his signature this year on an extension to his contract.

BH we have all said cant wait for next yr for the past 7 yrs. Force of habit I think.

Once the FD is restructured, board is reshuffled and a new EXPERIENCED coach is signed everything will change for the better.

There is a different feel about this change that is coming as opposed to the ones in the past.

Geez I hope this is wrong. Being screwed by a manager of an 18 year old to become one of our highest paid players before he gets a game.

That's just the pits for us as a club. Our hard earned money we spend on this club should go to an experience midfielder to come in next year and help us rise up the ladder.

I will spew if we pay hogan that much now.

Hogan is critical for the Demons, as the 195cm power forward is set to become a key public face of the club's rebuild from next season.

He has been repeatedly referred to by Melbourne officials in public speeches and media engagements as a silver lining to a dark season.

I hate the above.

As per my earlier post, can we just pump up the men in our team (however bad they are) and leave the kids to play footy?

No you won't.

You will be thankful we have extended the contract of a talent like him.

And we have plenty of cap space, just a ridiculous amount.

Thanks to our atrocious recruitment several years ago we have plenty of money to throw at an experienced midfielder.

So, feel better?

    GOLDIE'S METTLE by Meggs

On a perfect night for football at the home of the Redlegs, Norwood Oval, it was the visiting underdogs Melbourne who led all night and hung on to prevail in a 2-point nail-biter. In the previous round St Kilda had made it a tough physical game to help restrict Adelaide from scoring and so Mick Stinear set a similar strategy for his team. To win it would require every player to do their bit on the field plus a little bit of luck.  Fifty game milestoner Sinead Goldrick epitomised

    REDLEG PRIDE by Meggs

Hump day mid-week footy at the Redlegs home ground is a great opportunity to build on our recent improved competitiveness playing in the red and blue.   The jumper has a few other colours this week with the rainbow Pride flag flying this round to celebrate people from all walks of life coming together, being accepted. AFLW has been a benchmark when it comes to inclusivity and a safe workplace.  The team will run out in a specially designed guernsey for this game and also the following week

    REDEEMING by Meggs

It was such a balmy spring evening for this mid-week BNCA Pink Lady match at our favourite venue Ikon Park between two teams that had not won a game since round one.   After last week’s insipid bombing, the DeeArmy banner correctly deemanded that our players ‘go in hard, go in strong, go in fighting’, and girl they sure did!   The first quarter goals by Alyssa Bannan and Alyssia Pisano were simply stunning, and it was 4 goals to nil by half-time.   Kudos to Mick Stinear.

    REDEEM by Meggs

How will Mick Stinear and his dwindling list of fit and available Demons respond to last week’s 65-point capitulation to the Bombers, the team’s biggest loss in history?   As a minimum he will expect genuine effort from all of his players when Melbourne takes on the GWS Giants at Ikon Park this Thursday.  Happily, the ground remains a favourite Melbourne venue of players and spectators alike and will provide an opportunity for the Demons to redeem themselves. Injuries to star play
