Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Chris Dawes Article

He may be a smart bloke, but remember in his last article he said that the coaching staff and the players told him that he should move on from Collingwood because he was not good enough. Like most Melbourne players, the more games they miss the higher Demonland rate them. Struggled at Collongwood, they got rid of him and recruited an old player in Lynch. I don't see how he will be any better at Melbourne.

He is a good player, you dont win premierships by being ordinary.

At Collingwood he was Clokes decoy and used as back up ruck, and was he in the 22 - no. Would he be in our 22 - definately

That goes for Byrnes, Clark and any other player we have picked up.

BTW, Dawes chose to leave - big difference

Plenty of ordinary players have been lucky enough to be part of a premiership team, it does not mean that he as an individual is a good player.

If Collingwood thought that Dawes was in their best 22 he would still be there. He was told that he would not be in the best 22 and should look elsewhere (by the coaches and players!!! He wrote about this). He will be in the best 22 at Melbourne because the club has recruited poorly, including topping up with players who are not seen as AFL standard by other clubs.

Melbourne got into this mess by thinking that they were smarter at judging talent than other clubs and drafting poorly, maybe now they should start to pay attention to who other clubs say are not up to it.

That's right, Collingwood didn't think Dawes was AFL standard, that's why he's played 71 AFL games.

Same as Byrnes who played over 100 games with Geelong including two flags and Rodan who's managed over 170 AFL games.

Players who aren't AFL standard I think you'll find would normally be weeded out of a premiership winning team or have their careers ended before they got up to as many as 170 odd AFL games.

You are assuming (without even seeing Dawes play for us) that Collingwood never make any mistakes or that they might have different needs than us. They needed a forward who could play in the ruck. We don't. The role that Dawes will play here is therefore very different to the one he was asked to play at Collingwood.

Time will tell if we got value or not, but remember that he wasn't delisted or anything. He was simply traded because he was not needed. And let's be honest; when you have Travis Cloke at full forward, most other players aiming to play that position would not be needed either.

When will people actually take some things at face Value ?

I enjoyed what Dawes had to say and he confirmed for me that the pre season training not only sounded

Good but was good at least in his opinion

I like the look of Dawes and I believe he will contribute to the team as a whole.

But like everything we will just have to wait and see, but we can at least give him the benefit of the doubt for now, at least till he has a chance to show us what he can do on the field when in the Red and the Blue

You are being trolled.

School holidays.

Not at troll, a paid up member who finished school in the 90's and predicted that Melbourne would finish bottom 2 when trade week was completed due to the terrible top up strategy.

The club traded for leadership, but were any of the players that Melbourne picked up in their previous clubs leadership groups?

Stick around for a while and I will interact.

Not many pick 'I hate Dawes' to start posting.

I thought it was a good article and courageous of Dawes to put his name to the assertion that the MFC playing group will come good on the field.

In any behaviour / performance change process having players make public statements of their intention or the intention of the group only deepens the commitment of the player to deliver.

He looks (and writes) like a man who has been challenged by the manner of him leaving Collingwood, to take his game and leadership to another level at Melbourne.

Looking forward to Dawes getting onto the G in Red and Blue.

In an off field capacity I am ecstatic to have him at the club. Now I'm looking forward to seeing what he can do on the field.

Hopefully emulates Clark circa 2012...

Yep, I think that says it pretty well. Handles himself well in the media but I'm hoping he can back it up on the ground.

He has a lot to prove though, a big personal challenge.

another good article that helps to understand whats going on inside.

its great to hear the players are excited with the changes, & how we're moving going to move ahead.

the leadership IMO is growing, & this will inturn help the the club build a harder culture.

# no passengers.

Look forward to Dawes and Hogan lining up for Casey on the weekend. Glimpse of the future!?

No coincidence that this articles come out just as Dawes is able to hit the field again.

So you read the newspapers and decided that was MFC strategy, there are many different forms of leadership, it is leadership in how you prepare yourself, how you survive through adversity, Rodan although not in the AFL side, led from the front for the VFL side on Saturday, that side was full of young MFC players, invaluable. Perhaps with you only finishing school in the 90's adversity is perhaps a word you are not familiar with.

Also we drafted poorly?....we have had 2 guys in Viney and Matt Jones who have played all 4 games and Terlich who has played 3, come straight into the side, if we were winning, journalists would be drooling over them

I like what Chris Dawes wrote, and the other thing I like, we could have panicked and put him in the team before he was ready or fully fit, the coaching staff and obviously Chris decided not to, leadership, frustrating for him as it must have been

Satyriconhome this forum would be much better off without you constantly sniping and insulting anyone that does not share your opinion. You are a broken record. I get it, you believe that the club can do no wrong and you are a supirior supporter to everyone else. Now either add something new to your posts or move on, I'm sick if reading the same post from you every two minutes.

Can't believe no-one has raised the issue of the MFC not having a boot room yet!! No wonder this club can't win games, what an absolute disgrace!

:)

down at the Lexus centre they have a boot room, sock room, jocks room, mouthgaurd room.. you have to tour the facility before training.. members' money well spent

Don't read them then precious, didn't say that, that's how you interpret it, just following WYL's example, what insult, it was a statement, I don't have a very high opinion of most people under the age of 35 these days, too much "Give me" "I Want" for me.

I do not believe the Club has got everything right, but Chris Dawes is one decision I think is, hence my post in this topic, difference between some and me, try to stay on topic

If posters must continually post, in my humble opinion, untruths, rumour, lies, rubbish, strange theories, then as a Public Forum I have a right to be able to answer them.

Don't post yourself if you can't handle it

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
