Prestia?

Yes-tia.

I wouldn't have any issue throwing a fat contract at this guy. Exactly what we need. Quick, hard at it accumulator of the footy. Watched him closely in 30+ degree heat at Southport on the weekend and was one of the only guys still going flat chat at the end of the game. Insanely fit and uses the ball well, too.

Add him and Daisy Thomas to our side for 2014, plus the Hulk, and we are in business.

I started a thread about this guy that how we should chase him hard. think I was corrected that he has just signed a new contract? Die hard Melbourne supporter too, not that it means anything..

Liking what you are saying RR. That combo, plus another young first rounder, makes 2014 and 2015 look very tasty. Are there any other GC or GWS players coming out of contract that might also be good options to sound out?

Not too many grounds as wet as that in your photo anymore.

Nup, comes out of contract this year. Says he wants to stay in this article from ten days ago but as we know .... where there's no ink on paper ....

Would probably have to give up our first rounder to get him, he is a long way off being a free agent and I doubt he has a Tippett/Adelaide deal.

I agree we should flatter him with an nice offer, but lets see how things pan out in the future as he sounds settled atmo.

This young bloke is impressive in the same way Zorko is for the Lions. If we can add him and Hogan next year, our list will be in good shape for a tilt at the finals.

The question for me is "do we go for Prestia or Daisy Thomas or both?"

If we can afford it - both.

His family are desperate for him to come home, to the G.

If this is true, then get out the tongs.

Hammer out a tempting deal,,, a nice contract, & maybe a trade?

And how do you know this?

If Sylvia is moved on at season's end ... and you have Davey no longer eating up 500k or whatever it is the ridiculous amount of money he's being paid ... there's roughly a mil of cap space straight off the bat. If we can find another 300-500k there's no reason why we couldn't have a red hot go at both of them.

A hypothetical core midfield group of Daisy, Jones, Prestia, Grimes, Trengove, Toumpas and Viney really gives Neeld something to work with moving forward. I don't see why we couldn't have finals aspirations in 2014 with that sort injection of talent into the engine room.

Unfortunately, it's a year away from happening which means Neeld will be in the battle of his life this season to cobble wins together, maintain morale around the club ... and keep his job. It's going to be tough.

Hopefully, he's matured a little since Year 12 where he was just an arrogant, uncooperative kid with a lot of talent in one area. If that's the case, I'd agree but I'd want to do some homework first. No problem with his skills and hardness at the footy.

Firstly I am not an advocate of "he was a mad Melbourne supporter so he wants to come to us" but Prestia himself is not the issue - it is more that the only way we could get him is if we trade with GC. The money and Prestia you would hope could be worked out...but the only way to guarantee he comes to us is trade with GC - if he goes uncontracted into the draft then teams below us get first crack.

What makes you think Neeld's job is under any sort of threat? He has been given a job to do and he's doing it. Unless we go seriously backwards this year, Neeld is as safe as houses. I suspect that eight or nine wins will see him offered a contract extension. The season hasn't even started and you're putting the curse on him. FFS!

After reluctantly coughing up Caddy, I can absolutely see GC doing whatever it takes to keep him up there. It sets a poor precedence for these start up clubs if they make it easy for their best young players to leave. I could even see a situation where they play hardball and refuse to to a deal with us and tell Prestia they will throw to the wolves of the pre-season draft (Port Adelaide to Nick Stevens style) if he refuses to re-sign.

If that happens, it happens. But I suspect GC would more than have to be tempted by our likely top 5 draft pick in November.

Prestia's going to get a decent paycheck wherever he ends up, so my feeling is it will probably end up coming down to how badly he wants to come home ... and possibly even more importantly for an upstanding Aussie-Italian kid - how badly his family want him to come home.

You're bang on there mate,

The reality bus has a 3 year contract, Neeld has been giving three years to get this list going in the right direction. If this year is a failure, i expect there to be "Coach Neeld's to go" threads left right and centre!.

Back on topic, doesn't sound promising about this kid by what that articles said. Swan and Daisey would be nice tho!

Mate, don't get me wrong I believe in Neeld. Most definitely. But I'm under no illusions about how hard it's going to be this year operating with a midfield which can at best be described as 'workmanlike'. He's got very little to work with in there.

I don't think even Neeld himself would think he is as 'safe as houses' at this point. He has shown that he has the courage to make hard decisions. He's admirably going about changing the culture of the place for the better. But he has not yet proven his mettle as a match day coach. That's what season 2013 is all about for him.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
