Dion Prestia

Mate, don't get me wrong I believe in Neeld. Most definitely. But I'm under no illusions about how hard it's going to be this year operating with a midfield which can at best be described as 'workmanlike'. He's got very little to work with in there.

I don't think even Neeld himself would think he is as 'safe as houses' at this point. He has shown that he has the courage to make hard decisions. He's admirably going about changing the culture of the place for the better. But he has not yet proven his mettle as a match day coach. That's what season 2013 is all about for him.

I still think the powers that be will give him the three years. We would be a laughing stock if we sacked a coach after two years and had to pay out his contract. Think of the damage that would do to the brand. He will get his three years. Nothing more certain.

Cos he knows Prestia was once a dees supporter, and he has an overactive imagination.

Im actually a very good mate of Andrew Jago you dumbo.

The only thing certain in the life of an AFL coach is ... uncertainty.

I rank Prestia as a very good player. Would be a really good pickup for the Dees along with Thomas and possibly LeCras

This young bloke is impressive in the same way Zorko is for the Lions. If we can add him and Hogan next year, our list will be in good shape for a tilt at the finals.

The question for me is "do we go for Prestia or Daisy Thomas or both?"

If we can afford it - both.

Unusual comparison.

Prestia was a run-of-the-mill highly rated U18 player who went top 10 in the draft, Zorko was a 24 year old acquired with pick 34.

Prestia is in his 3rd year and still looks very much in and out of games (mostly out- like practically everybody else on the list bar Gary Jnr) whereas Zorko carved it up consistently last season in his debut year.

Where is the similarity?

Now you're talking.

I really rate him.

Would his knee hold up?

Seriously, to attract more players I'd love us to win more games and become an attractive proposition. This year's recruits will assist that goal.

If this is true, then get out the tongs.

Hammer out a tempting deal,,, a nice contract, & maybe a trade?

Tongs??? Are you proposing we do a cavity examination on the guy? Or do you want to BBQ him DL? ;)

Not that bloody hard...

What? :o Cavity exam? Oh No, more like a backlane dental extraction. B)

... and the hammer, just to go with the tongs... that is, 'IF' he wants to come back home... a noice fat performance based offer would be handy to have in his head, even if he stays up there for another 2.

And how do you know this?

The same way he knew Schwab was in trouble and we were "all in for a world of hurt".... he doesn't.

Body shape yes.

The footy smarts and impact on games Dayne has as both a forward and mid sets them apart fairly convincingly in the other 2 categories.

Zorko actually has a pre-season under his belt this year, it wont take long for you to see what I mean.

Wave $650,000 under his nose and he may well end up at the MFC

Yes it's amazing how many inventive new reasons a player manager can give his charge to move with the aroma of crisp bills floating nearby.

Prestia is the energizer bunny mid we would've had had you-know-who stayed. He's like you-know-who, only with heart.

There's one thing this club has to do for us before it dies.

Win a Premiership

Flick Davey, possibly lose Sylvia, although I'd like him to stay and get Prestia or one of the other gun mids playing up north

Yep, Prestia is exactly the kind of guy we need, for sure. And given the widely discussed links with Melbourne (city and club) it seems a credible ploy.

I'm sure he'd be on the footy department's radar, and I am gonna go out on a limb and say that we still have a fair whack of salary cap room to play with.

  • PREVIEW: Brisbane

They really had me fooled when I picked them with great confidence to beat the Bombers at Gather Round last week. I should have recognised that nothing is more quintessentially Melbourne than defeating the undefeated early premiership favourite one week and losing to a winless cellar dweller on its way to establishing a record losing streak the next.
