On topic, it's great to hear that Mitch is playing this weekend. His Lisfranc can be a career killer, so he's now in the clear. For those of you worried about repeat injury, Lisfranc dislocations don't recur with any greater incidence in previous sufferers. I expect to see him round 1. Good work to Mark Blackney his surgeon, and the rehab team.....particularly the physios. I might be biased, haha.

That's good news, but as I've previosuly noted, I'd still be pleasantly surprised if he played in the seniors Round One. But I'm not expecting him to after a long lay off and just one praccy match.

So out of interest, what is the career killing factor if not recurrence? I got the impression they were being so careful to prevent it happening again.Good news that it is now completely behind him!

The career killer is that it never stands up to the demands of weight bearing.....running, jumping, landing. That is, that it never gets this far.

Not standing up to the demands of weight bearing sounds like recurrence to me - maybe there's some technical medical difference? You say there's no greater frequency of recurrence. What's the threshold when you can say he's "cured" and are we passed that - that's what you seem to be saying?

About time that we start a Well Done Dave Misson thread. Coming into the season proper with close to a full list, and no long(er) term injuries incurred during pre-season.

I think we're all waiting until round 1. If we get to 3 PM on Sunday the 31st and Chris Dawes, Jack Trengove, Sam Blease and Mitch Clark are all lining up for us, then I think everyone on Demonland will be itching to give Misson his due credit. But until then, we're all just holding our collective praise.

I'd imagine its all to do with how well it heals the first time.

If it hasn't healed properly, Clark would never be in the position to train or play a match again.

Since he's already in that position, it has healed properly and the risk of a recurrence is the same as it was prior to the injury.

This is not to say he won't be subject to arthritic change as the years go by (after he's retired ideally!), changes in the burden on other joints in the area, and altered mechanics of the foot and ankle. Yes, other players have suffered the same injury, notably Richo, and had full normal careers after.

However, the treatment of such injuries has come a long way since Hird and Egan sustained their injuries.

Hird nor Croad are exactly the same wieght as Clark. What works for them may not necessarily work for Mitch.

Matty Richardson who is probably similar to Clark recovered fully from the same injury and as Iva says treatment has moved on since then

If i recall correctly Egan never really recovered from his injury at all and i'm not even sure he played again after it?

Egan and particularly Croad had fractures. Croad's was a Lisfranc dislocation WITH a fracture of the metatarsals. Disaster!!! And he had warning signs of stress leading into the GF, but the decision was to inject him up and take the risk. It ended badly. Not sure whether Egan was navicular or other.

I hope we aren't rushing Clark and Trengove back too early.

Ironically, I wasn't arguing with anyone, I was agreeing with someone.

I've rarely had a go at the whole club or admin, probably only that [censored] Paul Gardiner who I never liked. I realise it's a tough formula to get right at the top to deliver the ultimate success, and I don't enough about what goes on to often comment on it, I usually stick to what I know, and that's on field.

I hope my post didn't show angst towards the club or supporters, there's no angst here, I accepted what we're like a long time ago. Maybe that makes me soft. At least posts like BH's make us have a look at ourselves.

But enough about me, as a collective, I don't know, you may be right, I hear sweet FA from our supporters to know what we think of each other. Only what goes on on here, and I won't deny the people that post here frequently are passionate. It's the majority that don't post here, that pick and choose when to go to the games and if they'll bother making any noise or finding out what the new kid's name is. I have no idea what they are thinking/feeling. I know exactly what a crowd of Richmond or Essondon fans are thinking.

I agree generally, but i find most of the time he chimes in just to chime in. and the irony is im doing it here just on a smaller scale. And a lot of the time it's just argument for arguments sake. There's critical analysis, and there's just berating and annoying someone just to win an argument, which is a big big problem on this site. There's not many people who understand that the person with the opposing view will never change their mind no matter how much you argue. That's why the "no bs tom scully" thread when on for about 90 pages until people started talking about other topics and it just became a group chat about nothing. It was a cyclical revolving door of opinions, that went on for so long that most people couldn't be bothered anymore.

I think also with the whole "no melbourne supporters know anything about football" is because probably generally the common supporter won't. All my friends go for geelong and st.kilda, and they know more about the d's than your common supporter. It's like fandom in any facet of life, politics, sports, tv shows. There's fans..... then there's fans.

I work with dozens of footy fans and not one of them has any depth of understanding at all. Reality is that most people don't have the time or inclination to become students of the game. Supporter forums are just a microcosm of that.

Im betting that Clark and Dawes are itching to have game time together and get the forward line working well. It may be that even if Clark plays round 1, he and Dawes will take 6-8 weeks to get it going. The earlier he better.
