I really like the way Nev Jetta plays and I suspect Neeldy does as well ......... hard, courageous and tight with reasonable pace, disposal and ability to read the play. He seems to do the 'team things' well, and with the premature departure of Barty, he has a golden opportunity to claim the vacant BP spot. He is still learning the role of a small defender, but he has many of the right attributes to make a go of it. If he can put his injury problems behind him, I can see him becoming an integral part of our defence by year's end.

At the moment I have picked Strauss Evans and Kent respectively, Jetta is my sub. But as others have said we need to see more. I want to see more of Terlich, Tapscott.

Yeah like it.. Ever since we picked up Kent, and I looked at his highlights I thought he looked a player.. I see a little Dayne Beams in him.. I have high hopes he'll be a very good player for us.. Bargin pick too..

Interesting, I haven't bothered ever looking back at that draft as I hate retrospective draft calls, but I distinctly remember at the time Atley being touted to go top 10, wonder why he slipped.

Believe it or not there was a knock on his disposal at the time, doesn't seem to be a problem now.

Terlich, Jones & Kent. I believe Terlich & Jones have been recruited as mature age players to fill a role straight away.

I like the way Nicho goes about training however it doesn't translate on game day at the moment. His disposal is a liability. Hopefully Terlich & Strauss can push each other for the BP role. Jetta is too limited a player at AFL IMO, he's too small & slow to make the grade(hope he proves me wrong). Another alternative is that Strauss pushes up onto a wing in a straight swap for Grimes.

Jones & Evans to push each other for the midfield spot. Question marks remain on Evans fitness.

The forward spot is probably the most debatable. Who knows what we will get out of Davey & Tapscott. If Tapscott is fit & firing by round one he would be my selection. I like the look of Kent though, he has pace & a penetrating kick which is something the sides lacking so I'd like to see him push for a spot.

I think the way the voting is going is spot on - Strauss/Evans/Kent. Hopefully all three will be long term players.

I agree with this, although I suspect Matt Jones might be the one who really excels in the midfield.

That said, I've always had high hopes for Evans and he got my vote in the poll.

The "Vacant BP" spot is not a reference to Prendegast I hope.

Neville will be an "overnight" sensation.

Not a BP quiet achiever .

Evans is in the same boat .

There is a lot of love for Evans and Nicho too but when we are crying out for players who can hit targets with their feet these two really struggle. No good getting it 20 times for 10 turnovers especially in a lowly team.

Love their endeavor and work ethic but it is their skill level that will ultimately hold them back.

Strauss, Jones and or Kent and maybe Taggert if his skills hold up.

Agree completely H-T

Watched Evans and Kent closely in the intraclub They can play and I believe they will play most of year

Like the look of Terlich and also believe Tapscott should b played forward pocket ah la Chapman If he is given consistent chances he will kick plenty of goals

He is fitter and lighter this year and looks to have gained some speed

cant wait fro the season

Looks like Magner and Jetta put their names forward with some disposal, whilst up forward Davey (3 goals), Kent (2 goals) and Tapscott (1 goal, 8 tackles all contributed. Of course without being at the game it's hard to judge all of them but let's see who gets a run in the next

Nev Jetta for mine. Mentioned a fair bit today and I reckon after an injury free pre season he has the tools to be a find for us this year in the clint bartram role.

It's looking like Kent may be the one for the first round a bit like Tynan last year he is doing everything right and demanding a spot.

Other than that it looks like Sellar has upped the pressure on Pederson, who would have been thought a walk up start. I guess with Clark missing he could still be.

I would like to point out that I have been saying this for a year or two, all Nev has ever needed is a clear run without injury, fringe no more

I always hate the "pick your team" game Dee, but I hope it doesn't line up how you've got it!

* Blease won't be right for Round 1, so Toumpas replaces him.

* I'd prefer to have Rodan on the bench instead of Evans.

* I think Howe would be better suited on the HFF, therefore dropping Davey down to the FP.

* I'm not sure if I have Nicho in my best 22 let alone have him starting on the ground.

As I said, it's always a tough gig. Players that have to be considered that you haven't named would include Tynan (I think Neeld likes this kid), Tapscott, maybe Taggert, and they will be competing for the remaining spots with the ones I haven't highlighted above. I'm also not sure if we will play both Pedo and Sellar, and I think Dawes will start deep FF.

Just watched the replay and I like Jetta and Terlich for the vacancies, based on that game.

Not sure how those two fit in but at least, Jetta can play back, forward and in the middle

Yes Magner got plenty of it, but I still would pass given the shocking disposal.

Kent and Tapscott showed a bit too.

I found it tricky picking out some of the players

Kent looks to have something about him - think he'll be a player and will get a gurnsey early on playing off the bench or as a HFF

Jetta gets the nod from me too, although probably on the interchange rotating through the backline and short stints in the midfield - he's probably got better skills than Nicho and seems to be more desperate than Strauss.

Terlich - from what ive read and seen (not a great deal), he's an upgrade on Nicho as a rebounding defender. Maybe not as quick and fit, but more reliable with ball in hand?

Tapscott - offers something valuable with his long kick, will get games, although might have to start the season in the VFL or as a sub

Magner - will be the upgraded rookie and offers reliable depth when other inside mids are injured

Matt Jones - Possibly gets a start early in the season due to his height and kicking skills being a point of difference between him and the others looking for a midfield spot

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
