2013 - The Year The Demon Awoke?

I can't see Nic Nat. Your thread is invalid.

But seriously, I'm excited to see what this year brings. I hope we'll be a surprise packet, but as always I'm sure that prize will go to some other team from some other town.

If Jack Viney doesn't captain this club during his career I will be very surprised.

Zoolander would be jealous of that look.

Gimmie double digits in the W column and I'll believe whatever it is you want me to believe, but until then...

Although I have a sneaking suspicion bruise free is not going to be a phrase that is heard often (or at all) around this place in the future.

We have put up with enough off field troubles, i'm sure we will be better for having been through that and we can take a big stride towards becoming a contender next season!

Up the Dees!

Enough's enough.

It's time to start believing again.

I know exactly what you are saying Rangey, but I've never stopped believing ......... 1965, '66, '67, ............. 2012, 2013 .... ad infinitum until I'm in a pine box.. There's one thing that's certain however, we are getting closer as every year goes by (sound logic that!) and I'm looking forward to 2013 with great anticipation and excitement.

Who you suggesting? There would a lot less now than this time 12 months ago.

We still have a number of players who have been jogging on the spot for years, and one for a decade...

My reasons for believing in.....being more improved than last year. Not much more to believe in yet.

List Improvements

Pre season training numbers. Probably the healthiest since about '05.

Neeld and his FD have had a full year to teach standards, game plan and get to know players individual development requirements

Fixture - last year's fixture was going to kill a new coach with a young list. It was always going to be 9-10 losses in the first half. That was always going to shatter the confidence.

Phase 1- Better Internal Standards

Phase 2 - AFL Standard Performances

Phase 3 - High Level AFL Performances

I feel we have significantly better internal standards. Standards have to be met across the board though and in due course exceeded. Recruiting talent is fine but developing the entire list to replicate an AFL standard list is an ongoing process. Do we have a better team? The easiest way to answer that is to sit back and watch.

I'm looking forward to watching though not only due to the prospect of improving but for the simple reason that we should be more watchable (win/lose or draw) to any football observer full stop. I think this is what has hurt the most over the years, not so much the win/loss but the depressingly low level of footy we have shown.

You know DOF I put almost your response word for word in the club survey I just sent off.

The question was what could the MFC do to make you happier?

My response win a premiership before I get shipped off in a pine box.

Back on the Subject :- I am feeling pretty excited about this year, let's hope that what we see on the training track can replicate itself on game day.

I think our squad has improved with the trade and draft. The competition for a place can only improve our starting line up. If 2012 was a training drill then I think this year we will clench our fist and 2014 we start to throw some knockout punches.

I am by nature a pessimistic person....but even I have a "bit of a feeling about this year".....I often expect the worst and hope like hell for the best but seeing the training reports and the signs coming out of the club. I am a little optimistic

When I watch the games, my right leg moves by itself when one of our players has a kick....It's like I am trying to help him kick it.

It takes all types I suppose.....

Can you expand on that breathtaking statement rpfc

Sure.

Sylvia has barely fired a shot for the decade he has been here. Dunn has not been able to cement any position as yet in his 99 games. Blease has 8 solid games in the bank but that's it. Strauss has it all to do to keep a spot on the list. Tapscott has to show he can do more than excellent shirtfronts. Davey has regressed amazingly in the last 2 years. Jetta has yet to show is anything more than a tough little nut. Rohan Bail makes awful decisions and hasn't come on since 2010.

Not to mention that Byrnes, Rodan, Gillies and Pederson have to prove they are worthy of AFL games that other clubs felt they weren't.

We have a number of players that have a great deal of work to do and I don't really feel my inference that Viney will soon surpass them is that inflammatory.

I said before we officially got him that he would be in our top 6 midfielders in 2013. He is going to 'show up' a few I would say - opposition players and Demons alike.

Veteran Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin returned to the training track to bring you the following observations from Gosch's Paddock this morning. Beautiful morning for training. The dew has dried, out from AAMI, quiet chatting. Maysie does his heart symbol. 7 in rehab, Turner, Hore, Sestan, BBB, Petty, Spargo and Schache. All in runners. Melky weighted and change of angles work. Salem has his individual program. White cap (no contact), Howes, Woewodin and Sparrow

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
