As a member of the leadership group, Frawley in particular, should have shown more commonsense. If you are going to have a few beers at the cricket you don't set yourself up for negative publicity by doing it in Bay 13.

Perhaps the only issue for some is that they weren't in the members wearing their blazers which suggests to me that they were off work and chose to support Wade and the others in full voice .It shows good Aussie spirit and an ability to mix with the common man .I suspect some of the crowd recognised them and were being the antagonists in the scuffle ,along with Rivers , who seems like a mouth when big Chip is there to back him.

my guess is probably as good as the Fairfax hacks who found this scoop.

Ah....Yes.....If they were in the members they would have been ejected much earlier......lol....

Idiot effort "by the boys". Pick & choose numbnuts! More than one brain between them, you'd get a rattle.

You must be Sri Lankan right?

I could not give a toss what they did on boxing day.

Just win games in 2013 guys.

The choir boys have been shuffled off a few weeks back.

Sounds like good news to me.

So are you saying Bay 13 is the place where the "real common man" goes ?

What about the other parts of the MCG ?

And what about the "real common woman" in this day of "enlightenment" ?

To me Bay 13 is no more a place where you can show you are not a blazer wearing MCC member, than most other stands.

But, it does have a reputation which rubs off on those who chose to sit there.

And, these guys being in the media spotlight as they are, do not help the club very much.

Not mutually exclusive.

Bing I am so tired of this attitude that a football team has to be a team of guys who are beyond reproach.

Quite a few of the teams that have won flags over the last ten years have had some ordinary human members.

I do not care what they do on Boxing day.

Just win bloody games.

The lads were probably a tad indiscreet in choosing bay 13 but we are not running a nunnery here. No harm done.

I'm running one .

We make chutneys and preserves and stuff.

It's awesome fun.

I figured out why they call them nuns too.

True, teams (probably all of them) have won flags with "ordinary human members" in their ranks.

It was not "wise" for them to chose Bay 13, but I guess that's up to them.

The major point to me, is if they got blind drunk (not that there is any indication of that, yet) it would have an effect on their training when they return next week.

It would not matter if they did that at a BBQ at Frawley's house or on a fishing trip in Tassie with Jeremy.

A couple (or more) of well managed beers (light or not) could in fact be beneficial, particularly to their mental well being.

The "new" culture Neeld, Craig, Misson etc are building is not about be goody goody, puritanical wowsers.

It has to do with being professional athletes, in a very demanding sport, in 2013 and beyond.

Maybe what they did, shows there are still players where this new ethic is yet to be ingrained.

The good to come out of this will likely use of it as a "timely warning"...no harm done - yet.

Oh, some times in the last 15 years I've wondered, then the Troy Broadbridge game & beamer comes along, & I think theres hope, only to be dashed again.

A hardass team thats the hardest to play against. I'd like to see that!

At least someone gets it.

What do you get? I'm willing to bet that these guys are not remotely having enough beer to affect any of their endurance, fitness, or strength levels. A day out in what will be a long season for them (which I'm reasonably sure will be quite dry) will only help them in terms of mateship and dealing with stress, something a stupid day at the cricket helps with.

I have worked with elite military and police officers, tier 1 types, that would punish just about any footy player in terms of fitness and they enjoy a beer when they get a chance, and they have the discipline to go six months or even twelve when the occasion demands but the occasional big sip does not hurt their fitness or professional attitude. A human being is not a machine even if they are getting a six figure pay check.

Often people including our hero Woewodin, eschew alcohol as part of a lifestyle choice, I totally respect and find the discipline impressive however I have not seen that the alcohol is the deciding factor in their abilities, they are just very motivated people who have set up a framework that works for them, but this must be a choice not something imposed. If our players have fallen off any targets set for them then I am happy for them to be sanctioned, if they broke a team rule re booze then sanction them, but if they did not then lay off.

I am not condoning this behaviour week in and week out or even monthly but your and many other responses are OTT.

It was dumb, could be smarter, not a good look etc but no more than that and I have never heard of these guys having priors for bad behaviour so I think they deserve some grace and definitely not the harsh unfounded judgement they have copped here.

So Bing get back to me with your medical expertise and tell me how your going to quantify how much they did in fact drink, measure this against their standard alcohol consumption combined with their diet versus their training loads and we'll see if any agreed expert will allow for a discernible effect.

Cut off Samsons hair & weaken his armoury.

Try to take the character & spirit from the boy/man & kill off his creativeness & mojo, & turn him into an uninspired robot servant... does this seem at all familiar from the robots we've had playing for 10 years or so?

These things are linked to a persons personality & character, & they're personal culture. the things that make they're hair bristle up they're spines... emotion & pride, thats what drives us to superhuman efforts.

Quell those things and you end up with a bunch of, well what we had.

My wife's a dietitian and she reminds me all the time how much exercise it will take to burn off the beers I've had over the weekend. It's quite a bit regardless of how fit you might be. Bing was making that assertion with the best intentions.

But seriously mate you need to get over yourself a bit. I appreciate your experience but your chest beating is getting a little tiresome.

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
