Judd steps down from Captaincy AND Leadership group...

Maybe I'm reading too much into this and more than likely there is nothing in it, but is there a chance maybe something is going to come to light regarding shady dealings in his salary arrangements with the club? The fact that he has stepped down from the captaincy raises no suspicions, but the leadership group as well?

Perhaps MM does not like him?

Indeed OD - another possibility I overlooked :-)

leadership group as well?

I think it has more to do with him not being a leader.

The captaincy (as well as the third party payments) were part of the carrot to lure him to Carlton. Fact is he is not really a leader he is just a very elite foot soldier

Might have something to do with him being a free Agent next year.....

I don't believe that is true tatu.

My understanding is you to have been 8 years with the one club.

He has not been 8 years at Carlton from my memory.

I guess their dream of Judd leading them to a premiership is over.

Someone had better go ask his gran for the latest goss and low-down !!

On the decline and costs too much, Carlton are welcome to him IMO

Probably as simple as Mouse wanting to recast the leadership group in light of 1) his ideas mightny have been as per Rats and 2) time for a fresh reboot.

he probably told the club they are not paying him enough for the extra responsibility.. if you want me to captain I want 14 million dollars a year

Dude, Judd would be an awesome PM. Think of the Judd v Abbott budgie smuggler comps. They could have them right now in Parliament and it wouldn't even detract from the current quality of debate.

Also, hot first lady (or whatever we call her). Zoo weekly will go nuts.

I see Judd as similar to Neitz in a way. He is a very good player in a team lacking a sufficient number of other leaders. My guess is that he and Malthouse decided it was best for him to step away from the leadership role in order for other players to develop into leaders; otherwise, they could end up like Melbourne has since Neitz retired.

Seems to me Malthouse is doing at Carlton what Neeld did with Melbourne last year.

He is letting it be known he will be running the club whoever's toes he happens to stand on in the process.

If the players don't like it look for a big cleanout at year's end.

Buy in or get out!!

He wouldn't accept the pay cut...........though.......... maybe a union slush fund by some other name????

Judd has always been about Judd. He is not a leaders bootlace. Great player unquestionably but not a leader of men.

Posted

Maybe it is simply MM knowing what everyone else knows

Judd is not a natural leader and like a lot of clubs do simply choose the teams best player

Collingwood made what most of us thought was a strange choice in Nick Maxwell but we know why now

Being a great player has very little to do with team leadership qualities

When i look at Carlton i think names like Nicholls and Kernerhan as standouts

Even Mike Fitzpatrick was a good captain without being outstanding and miles in front of Judd

Whitten is the best captain i have seen and no surprise why he was selected as the TOC captain

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
